Overrated doesn't automatically mean something is bad.

o·ver·rate
ˌōvərˈrāt
verb
past tense: overrated; past participle: overrated
  1. 1.
have a higher opinion of (someone or something) than is deserved.

"dismissing the work as pompous and overrated"
synonyms: overestimateovervalue, think too much of, attach too much importance to, praise too highly More

Charizard has a HUGE opinion over him, but when it comes down to it, he's just another fire starter, that happens to be based around special attack rather than defenses.

That last post had a vibe that "he's overrated, therefore, there are better Pokemon out there". Whatever you say though. Also you can't really enforce people to dislike Charizard just because a lot of people like him. I know the definition of overate too, I'm not five.

Charizard was the first to be one of the three starters in any Pokemon. So Charizard is more significant than the other starters. Even if ever so little.

No one's changing anyone's opinion over anything.  All that's been said was Charizard is overrated, which is true in terms of stats and design popularity.  Other than that, people will always have their favorites.  Lanturn isn't exactly a sweeper, but it will always be my favorite Pokemon.

Well this whole discuss was "x and y is better because Charizard is so overrated". So I kinda picked up the vibe that people were still believing that overrated can qualify as bad.

Overrated in popularity? Yes. Overrated in terms of stats? No.

There is a reason Charizard is in the LEAST used tier in the competitive meta game, where it's generally believed to be a bad pokemon.

And then you have to remember that there are those of us who don't really care about all that stuff, and just play the games for fun.  Other pokemon can be better in terms of stats and moves compared to another, doesn't mean the other one should be liked less.  Some people like to pick ones that are the strongest so they can win in competitions.  Then there's those of us who just pick the ones that we like the most.  Nothing wrong with either side.  I prefer to play it just to have fun because I got so wrapped up in natures and EV training that it eventually became a chore for me.  Video games... a chore?

Haha, I don't even know Charizard because he wasn't in Pokemon Black/White when I played it, but looks like a good pokemon.

Edit: Just like Pikachu who also wasnt in the game.

How did my opinion turn into such a heated debate? I guess nobody likes my opinions. :( Or maybe some can get a bit too abrasive over small things. :-/

Lol, it's no different from people saying Final Fantasy 7 is overrated.  It's just another FF Game with a downer hero, that happened to be in 3D for the first time, yet fans praise it like it's some sort of godsend.  It's the same case with Charizard.  He's just another fire starter who, though the first, specializes in special attacks, but fails in defense, yet he's praised like he's some sort of godsend.

Let's just stop the back and forth on the overrated-ness of a single pokemon and get back to the game, please.

I'm more curious if there will ever be a reason to NOT unlock the mega evolutions at this point. I can't see a reason you wouldn't want to, unless as some have suggested it adds an extra type (which could lead to more weaknesses).

You can only have one mega on your team at any team, so it could become fairly strategic, trying to decide which 'mon it would be best to Mega-evolve for the fight.

See that I hadn't heard. I think that's actually really brilliant, then. It takes your strategy to a whole new level. My next question is can you equip all 6 of your pokemon with the mega evolution items, then make the call during battle?

After seeing the Mega-evolution trailers for Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur, the whole "it feels too much like Digimon" feeling gets stronger and stronger. I hope this does not become a necessity and it ends up like Double, Triple, and Rotational battles where it only happens occasionally.

EDIT: You are such a ninja Russ! :P

... that I don't know for sure. I want to say they all have different items (because Blaziken's is apparently an event-only item), but it could just be that Blaziken is the oddball of the group. I think they already confirmed that you press a button in battle to Mega-evolve them, so assuming you can have multiple of the item and have everybody hold it, you should be good.

Edit: How did Tri ninja me with the anti-ninja system Pure has now? Did we post at basically the exact same time or something?
