So how about that new Kill la Kill? It was delayed by several hours and I didn't manage to see it until today, but hot freakin' damn was it worth it. After last week's plot twist, this week was pretty much everything you could ask for from an episode.

That... that...
In other anime: I've started watching Gurren Lagann again because who needs a reason other than it's Gurren Lagann? Also, I've started Sword Art Online. It's another anime my friend likes and I've actually heard positive things about (except on here, as a quick browse of the thread showed me). Only six episodes in, and... it's decent? I dunno, it's not bad, but the pacing's kind of off, and the Grimlock plot had a really stupid ending, but it's okay so far. Just okay.

On the topic of Kill la Kill:
On the topic of Sword Art Online:
It's a pretty terrible series all together. I recommend Log Horizon instead.

Well, it's not incorrect, just confusing if your continuity is based on another subber's vocabulary. The extra "u"s are just long vowels. Adding the U after the O is the correct romaji for a long vowel, but since japanese long vowels are just a literal longer pronunciation instead of the english altered pronunciation (japanese "ou" is just pronounced "ohh" instead of "oo"). But since that gets confusing for people not familiar with japanese pronunciation, it's easier to shorten it to just the O.

I definitely understand that, it's just, as you said, confusing when I'm used to seeing one way of it being spelled for so long. ![]()

I have never watched Anime before, and I don't believe I am particularly interested in it, but I thought that it was popular I would give it a shot. My friend recommended Sword Art Online, buy I decided to watch Nichijou, as I see it is recommended here, and TS has his profile pic and signature bar with it, one of the only anime things I can recognize here. Also thought it would be a good introduction to Anime. I don't think Pokemon counts, as I only watched it from ages 4-7.
And after watching the first episode, I was hooked. Don't understand Japanese culture much, but it is still hilarious. Will definitely watch more.
Lol, crash into someone causes an explosion.

As far as anime goes, you just have to find the kinds that are right for you. Do you like comedy? Action? Adventure? Romance? Nichijou is a solid first pick though. It has no real overarching plot, just a setting and great characters with goofy scenarios. It isn't completely disconnected to the point there's no continuity, but just follows the lives of the main characters and some side characters. ... with pretty insane results. But as far as I understand it, that's how most "slice-of-life" anime progress. Er, not necessarily with the insanity, but that can be easily be present as well.
Beware though, things can get awkward when it comes to, er, Mio's drawings. These don't get a whole lot of focus though, but even when they do the situations revolving around them are so ridiculous that it still ends up being incredibly entertaining.
If you want to try out other anime on the side, my easiest recommendation is Gurren Lagann. Has a bit of fanservice (though it's usually played for laughs and only in the unedited episode six does it border on gratuitous), but also tons of action, great story, great soundtrack, and awesome characters. It's a "mecha" anime, but a damn good one. Probably my favorite series of anything ever.
I'm not sure how much weight my recommendations can hold, since the only anime I tend to watch are ones that interest me, or came at the recommendation of a friend, or were popular enough among my friends that they might warrant a watch, but hopefully this helps a bit. I could probably count the amount of anime series I've finished on two hands, among others I've started and didn't like enough to progress or tried to give a chance then gave up on. ![]()

Thanks for the suggestions you two. I will definitely check them out as soon as I finish Nichijou.
Speaking of Nichijou, I love it!
Yuko and Hakase are my favorite characters, but Nana and Mio are pretty good too. I would watch this show more, but my parents think all anime is porn for some reason, so I can't watch it all the time. Watched the first 3 episodes though.

If you give me an idea what western stuff you like (cartoons, TV shows, movies, whatever), I may be able to give you some recommendations.
IMO, anime is a lot like western TV. There's pretty much something for everyone since it varies so much in content. There are comedies, action, romance, drama, etc anime series. It's just that unfortunately you have to wade through a lot of crap oftentimes to find the gems out there. ![]()

Thinking I should start Log Horizon, since I've Stein's Gate/SAO/AoT under my belt.
Also, if anyone is in the San Jose, California area on Memorial Day weekend, I recommend you check out FanimeCon. It'll be my 4th time there, and it would be cool to meet some fellow forum members if they happen to be in the area.
