Don't worry so much. The first hands-on demos are almost always played by someone who sucks at the game.
... Okay, that's an exaggeration somewhat, but seriously, I'm just a man who enjoys button-based gameplay. Not that other DS control schemes were all bad, but there's nothing wrong with using buttons. Which is why I'm more excited about this remake than quite a few things that have come out recently. But I'm impressed with the subscreen and how it's handled, as well. It looks great, and I can't wait for it to come out. Damn it, I'm even more impatient now than I was before for a 3DS.

What bothers me more than the lack of buttons is that developers seem to be intent on shoehorning all manner of games into the Wii motion controls regardless of whether they're a good fit or not. For instance, there are a number of games that are being ported to Wii or have had a simultaneous release on multiple systems, and for the Wii, the developers of those games are always like "welp, I guess we'd better use these things..." even when the game totally doesn't work with motion controls.
In particular I get tired of all the games that have 3rd person player characters and yet use motion controls (or the stylus on DS) instead of buttons. The stylus and Wiimote are better suited to games like Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center which are designed for tapping, gesturing, or drawing.
(Sorry, off-topic...)
