I have a suggestion. What do you think if we made the competition anonymous? Quite often it seems, members are voting for users rather than for screens; it happens that a screen gets all the votes because it was a certain member that entered the shot or that a screen gets no votes for the same reason. If the competition was anonymous until the results are announced, the votings would be "honest" in a way. Also, it'd be interesting to see wether people can tell who made the screen just by looking at it without knowing who the creator is.

That's actually a pretty good idea. I'd second it.

The perfect idea! Should be done in all next SotW's in my opinion . (EDIT: well, maybe it could just be one or two special sotw's)

Also, I'll enter this one if I'm quick enough. In my timezone, sunday is over in 2 hours.

I think you guys may be right.

However, the only problem I see is in regards to feedback. Normally people have been putting the screen creator's name followed by their comments. There should be something to "name" the screen, like maybe "#1","#2", etc. preceding each screen so that it's easy to tell who's screen is being talked about.
Also, some might spoil this (at their own risk, of course) by posting in reply to someone's feedback.

I guess these really aren't "problems", though. I think revealing the creators' names at the end is a good idea.

BTW, I just submitted one. Don't know if I'm too late.

Interesting idea; I'm okay with trying it out, but I do have some qualms with it. Number one is how people in the competition would rate other screenshots or react to critique; I think that, chiefly, Screenshot of the Week is meant to be a way to achieve a high concentration of feedback on a screen. If you're supposed to be entering the screen in secret, it makes it somewhat awkward to reply.

I think that a change to a strictly anonymous system would take some of the character out of the contest. It's not meant to be something extraordinarily serious in my eyes; it's just a more fun and useful way of getting feedback than throwing your screen into the general thread. Doing this would, honestly, take some of the fun out of it for me as a participant and follower. For example, there was the time a few months ago where Giggidy and I had a contest and everybody jumped in; we had a huge week and it was really fun for everybody to throw themselves in. Another time, Plissken, Robin, and I all decided to enter a week just to see who'd win; I think it added something knowing that Plissken and I were both contributing material from the same project, and Robin's general board presence was fun to compete alongside. If the screens were just numbers that part of the contest would be gone.

Thoughts on that?

Well, you have a point there.
The idea first hit me when Aeos mentioned in chat that the board would probably go wild if he entered a screen. I sorta thought the same and was wondering, wether that wasn't beyond the point of SotW.

I don't think it's a good idea, most people can figure out who made those screens anyway (for example, Sheik, your screens are recognizable from the SD3 graphics, mine from the Pokémon mountains I use) and when they don't and want to know who made them and look up their project, they have to wait until the week is over. Besides that, it makes it really hard to give and receive criticism, since someone can write: "#1 Great screen, I don't like this and that though, where did you get this and that graphic, I would improve this and that.", the person who made #1 can't reply to it. I also enjoy to see some of the personal jokes in SotW, I think this change would take that away. Jokes => laughs, laughs => happy people, happy people => happy forum.

But we could at least have one special SotW, where everyone should submit a screenshot that doesn't reveal the person. I know that this was not in Shiek's mind, but it would be fun to do that just once. After that we can have have the good, normal contest back.
