It's not fun, it devalues the pokemon, and just frustrates everyone who doesn't find out until it's to late or can't get there in time.
I mean seriously, why not put them in the game at the end of a really difficult dungeon (thinkin Mewtwo here). Use them as a reward for going the extra mile. Garrble garrble garrble

Ya, it is kind of fun to get event Pokemon. But wifi events are much more convenient.
It's kind of dull, actually. Drive to Toys R Us, go to the game section, pull out DS, turn on, load mystery gift (or whatever) and leave store. Ho-hum, been there, done that. And all of the pokemon that I have gotten through events I've never used. They just sit there in the PC.
AND you can't name them. It's so lame! All of my pokemon have fun names like Blender and Explosion and Curb Stomp. REGIGIGAS just kinda sticks out with the lack of creativity. La~me.
Edit: clarification.

I don't really mind WiFi events except that everyone can get them. Specialized events create more "rare" pokemon, and legendary pokemon are supposed to be rare. That's why I'm totally for random-encounter legendary pokemon (like, shiny rare, or maybe even more rare than that), and overworld pokemon "chasing" (if only you could hop on your Latios and fly like in Ranger).
I wish more pokemon events were "Ticket" events, where you get a ticket to a new island or a key to a new building that housed the legendary in the deep recesses of said place.
@ Russ
Yep, no prob! Just send me a PM when you're ready (so I get an email notification), and I'll respond as quickly as possible.

I'm gonna take my time with SoulSilver. I want to experience the same things I experienced when I first played Crystal; All the wonder, excitement, and exclusively for this--massive amounts of nostalgia.
Same here. Well, almost. I never played the original, so I don't have the nostalgia, but I'm still taking my time.
You know, it would be fun to do Pure ZC battles after every gym, assuming we play through at about the same pace. That way, we could test our team's strengths and weaknesses and make any changes need, plus have fun with online games.

Not exactly sure if they bothered making the dialogue any different, as the entire thing is in Japanese, but you'd be surprised how little it matters. I probably won't play very far into this game though, because there's only so far a person can blindly stumble into a game before you end up in front of some directional dialogue.
It looks, feels, and seems really cool though. I will personally be choosing Cyndaquil and will either naming it Sarah. Not sure if I'll be a female named TITS! though.

I'm pretty sure that's a requirement for anyone of the male gender who picks up a pokemon game and chooses a girl as his character. You have no choice, sir.
In other news, I am jealous that you've gotten to sample it before me
I still need to get the new Phoenix Wright game, too... Damn you, money! Why are you so unobtainable for college students like me?!

Edit: Actually, the Pichu wi-fi event IS is America to. I just got two (one for Pearl, one for Platinum). I suggest you do to, before the event's over.
