Quick remarks: Slightly unimpressed. Very linear level progression, why... no freedom to become lost, which it's what HL1's atmosphere and story demands it. Somewhat realistic weapons and ammo, that's good. You can interact with several things but Duke3D did it better (and that was a 3D game with sprites released a few years earlier, dammit!). No real sense of horror and terror, something that vanilla Doom still does (maybe that's not what the game wants to accomplish, still not sure). You can ignore the scientifics and SWAT people if you want, or even kill them, but having them in your side raises your chances of survival (that's also good, more realistic and adds some tension when they die or you must leave them).
Overrall: seems far better than many, many games, but pretty overrated. Gonna still playing.

A friend of mine recommended a game called "Demon Gaze" for me. I hope it's a great dungeon crawler. It does remind me of Etrian Odyssey.

OK, the details are very nice ("Forget about Freeman!"), the combat is fun and well made, the story is not brilliant or good but works (that bizarre ending with the G-Man)... Still the linear progression which hurts badly... and the Xen levels are boring and rushed. The game's pretty long too (or maybe it was not a good idea to play it in Hard). That also reminds me: the last levels are unfairly hard. Too much enemies in a single room, I needed to rely on sneaking and exploiting AI bugs and repeating small segments over and over... But I liked that the game never pointed out the next target or story point, it left it to the player to discover it by herself/himself, that's probably the best thing about Half-Life 1.

I finally finished Bravely Default. I ended up getting the true ending. If you are able to endure Endless Eig-... I mean Chapters 5-8, then you're in for one hell of a final showdown on the last chapter. ![]()

I'm finally at the final boss of Rogue Legacy. I can beat the first form with a gigantic character using the flame barrier skill, since I can just pin him against the wall and whale on him constantly, but the second form keeps doing me in. I'm thinking that my best bet would be a Barbarian King so that I can drive away the projectiles that I can't dodge, but I just keep on forgetting that class abilities exist while in the heat of battle.

Recently finished ALBW Hero Mode, and Yuganon was such a pain in the ass. Ended up using 4 Blue Potions through the whole fight.

I don't get why people don't like Mega Man II on the Game Boy.
Never played the GB games, I'm curious, how does it play and sound and feel compared with the NES games? Is it closer to MM2, 3 or 9? Does it have key differences? Is it more or less the same?

It uses the same sprites as on the NES, so everything looks 'zoomed in' but the stages are designed for the smaller space. There are only four stages, instead of eight, before going to Wily's Castle, but you still end up with eight powers.
Each game combines elements from two NES games, for example the first one has four robot masters from MM1 and four from MM2.
I guess you could say it's Mega Man Lite.

Personally, I think Mega Man V on the GB is a fantastic Mega Man game. Unlike the others, it has original robot masters and an original story (you'll never guess who's actually behind it all!!).
MMIV on GB is also very well put together. I can't speak for the others ... maybe they get better if you play for longer, but from the little I've played of the early ones these two are far superior.
anikom, you've inspired me. I'm gonna go play MM2 and see if it's better than I remember.

This conversation actually led me to buy Megaman V off the 3DS Virtual Console, since I still had one of those $5 digital promotion thingies for the Wii U added to my balance and I forgot about it. Not sure when I'll play it, but sometime soon. Might pick up Shovel Knight as well while I'm at it.

Oh yeah, I forgot Shovel Knight was on 3DS. I thought it was just a PC game. Let me know how well the 3D effect looks, if it uses it at all. I've been watching videos of the PC version, and it looks pretty damn beautiful for the art style they were going for.
