Yay for ZQuest shots? :3

I'm not a fan of Zquest shots, mainly because they can cause horizontal scrollbars.

I don't really like this screen. It would be much better in ZC because of how ugly this screen looks while bloated-up in ZQ. The only critique I can think of right now is to add the ovehead treetops.

Oh yeah, the overhead treetops! I forgot to add those. They're in my other shots around it. icon_razz.gif

Please remember to keep the screenshots within the size limits of 600x600. Thank you!

Eh, the screen is pretty good, but the water tiles are way too square. Aside from that, and the fact that the bushes are missing tops, not bad.

Two things, if I may:

1) I feel like the bushes could use a little bit of variation. Even something like flipping some of them horizontally could add a lot to the screen. When a screen is otherwise so detailed, having even one little thing be that monotonous detracts something from it. It's weird like that.

2) What do you think about the top of the waterfall at the bottom of the screen there? Do you think the cliff - to - waterfall transition is okay? I feel like it could use a little bit of a darker blue to mark its narrowing descent downward. It feels like there's FAR too sharp of a contrast between the cliff and the waterfall, almost as if it was plopped down right on an already existing cliff, rather than made to transition.

are there qualms aginst misusing tiles in place of other graphics? such as "oh look, sky, but those white things in the air are lakes, but they are called clouds. what is wrong with this nut case"

ok. so I could make some clouds right? I don't want to show anything misusing tiles that i did not understand, and used it as "the next best thing"

You mean using water tiles to represent the sky? Seems fine as long as you don't show something like water currents. I mean, blue is blue, right? Don't you have any plain blue tiles you can stick in there, if you're so worried about it?

Edit:

And one more thing about your screenshot Jared. Those water to grass transition borders are WAY TOO SHARP and unnatural looking. Surely you could use a little pixel magic to round them out?

He could also use the SD3 grass borders that are already in the DoR tielset. They might be a liiiittle too big but solving that issue shouldn't take any longer than it assumingly did to make the sharp corners.

But I'm just copying the way they did it in Minish Cap, and I like it.
I don't understand what looks so bad about it. Can someone explain?

Go outside and find me a river that flows at perfect 90 degrees angles. The square shape of the water tiles just looks unnatural.

That's my main complaint as well. Squareness is just... well, if you're using a detailed set like that, there's no excuse for squareness. It looks ugly and breaks the flow of the screen. Now, if it were something like GB or classic or some other low-def tileset, then it would be fine. But it's not. It's one of the main reasons I very much dislike those square ALttP mountains as well. icon_shrug.gif

Square tiles can look good If used right, I'm not saying you are using it bad, but the way your other tiles work/look makes the water shapes look bad~

The way I did it with these tiles were using square mountains with the water, and not directly grass If it wasn't more straight lines. icon_smile.gif
You may mix with the grass and water borders to find something that looks better or leave it as is.
