So I just finished the game and...

Yeah, that's about what I wanted. This is officially my new favorite Pokemon game. Just everything about it was just so enjoyable, from the changes to the formula, the alolan Pokemon, and that the whole game just felt like an actual adventure rather than "Do the thing! You win!"

I love this game. Now to see if the Post-game content is any good.

I never really got into online battles in AS but I gave it a try with a random person today. His Pokemon were of slightly higher levels so I was expecting a loss, but he was trying to be strategic and use non physical moves to lower my stats and give them other conditions. I myself and not like that and I generally only go for hard hitting physical attacks, and I managed to beat him with him only fainting one of mine.

Pretty far into Moon. Hard to say, with how the game plays out now. It's very fun so far, and I'm LOVING my Alolan Raichu and Mimikyu!!I love the story and the cinematics and ahhhh! Definitely climbing up to be one of my favorite Pokemon games, next to White.

Well this game happened to come out while I was gone. Bought it and am probably about half way through it. So far I have to say it is shaping up to be one of my favorites for sure. There are a few tiny things that bother me, like none of the trainers having more than 2 Pokemon so far, but that isn't really ruining anything. Out of the new Pokemon I've met so far, Alolan Raichu and Lycanroc have to be my two favorite designs. Both will probably end up as part of my list of favorites (although I will admit that list is quite large).

I'm actually going to halt my progress for a bit while I wait for a friend to catch up so we can have some rival battles throughout the game. That on its own might add a ton to my enjoyment of the game. So far, I'm really liking this!

I was in Hau'oli city at night and they really messed up on the moon. It's a transparent white half-circle in the sky. How do I know it's transparent? You can see stars through it. Before you think you might be seeing stars in front of the moon- remember that our nearest star is the sun- imagine what would happen if the sun was between Earth and the moon(!)

Just started it up yesterday!  Waited like 3,000 years for it to ship to our place, but hey, we got the bundle with the starter figurines.  I'm playing Sun (DashSim is playing Moon).  I'm currently at Route 2 and really enjoying it so far!  I went with Litten as my starter (named Smuckers), and my party is sort of...obviously pretty much not stuff I'm not sure about keeping yet.  Except maybe Alolan Grimer.  Poison/Dark typing is legit great.  Pikkipek was adorable but its first evolution suffers from the "We're bad at keeping up the cute appeal this pokemon had after it evolves" syndrome that Gamefreak has a lot.

Sadly, I haven't given Sun the time it deserves. I need to get farther than the starting island. What I've done so far has been nice. I've had some fun Wonder Trading some Pokemon.

Any clue if the save bug was fixed?

Unless you used save editing software to hack your game, that bug never happened.  It had to do with a bug with PkHex, a save editing tool.  Basically, that tool ratted out people that hacked their game.

Progress: Made it to the Wild West Town on the 2nd Island (the town after Route 4).

Team: Dartrix (Rowlet's evolved form), Makuhita, Trumbeak (Pikipek's evolved form), Magnemite, Snorlax (was the Munchlax that you can get in the Mystery Gift), and Growlithe. Team Levels are 19-23.

Things I like about the game:

-It's always fun to explore a new Pokemon region and see what Pokemon you use for a team this time.

-The Poke Ride, which gets rid of needing HMs to bypass obstacles (Something the Pokemon games really needed), and is faster (getting to places quickly with a charging Tauros is fun).

-The Poke Finder, a nice side activity that's a nod to Pokemon Snap.

-Pokemon Refresh is nice to have for curing status effects after battle without needing to use a item.

Things I don't like about the game:

-Wild Pokemon calling for help (A very annoying mechanic. A battle with a Zubat should not turn into a battle with 5 of them because it won't stop calling for help!). Made worse because the game won't let you catch Pokemon if the Wild Pokemon successfully calls for help (because it's "impossible to aim"....which is the worst excuse to justify not being able to catch Pokemon. Could you imagine Pokemon Colosseum and XD preventing you from snagging Shadow Pokemon if you're fighting 2 Pokemon at a time? That's how stupid not being able to catch Pokemon just because there's more than 1 that you're fighting against is).

-Some mild framerate issues (like in the battle against the Totem Gumshoos). Not bad enough to bring the game down, but is noticeable.

-No dolphin Pokemon (Too bad, I would have like to have one for my team).

-Level Grinding is a pain, thanks to Gen. 5 EXP Gain (higher EXP if opponent is higher level than you, less if you're higher leveled. A problem since all my Pokemon are higher leveled than the Pokemon in the area). Not helping is that every trainer I've fought so far has only had 1 or 2 Pokemon.

-Your rival Hau (Uh....why does this guy exist again? I'm finding him as that annoying character that you wish would go away. The fact that he calls the player character a newbie before your 4th fight with him makes him lose more points considering you've beaten him three times already and unlike him, you probably have a full team of 6 while he only has 2 Pokemon, 1 of which is his starter that happens to be weak to your starter).

Despite the things I don't like about the game, I am enjoying the game.

Hau, Lillie, and Gladion all become pretty cool by the end of the game. It was actually pretty neat to have actual character development in a pokemon game. It's not Tales of the Abyss level, but it's still neat.

I was surprised at how broken Muk was for this game.  His only weakness was ground due to Poison/Dark typing.

I picked Sun up on Saturday and my progress is about the same as KEM's in his last post, though I made it through the second trial. That second Totem Pokemon was a legitimate pain in the ass too. I was annoyed and also impressed, because I'm not just waltzing through everything. And yes, I turned off Exp. Share promptly, because we all know how broken it is; X/Y proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Anyway, as far as the game itself, I have some likes and dislikes. The beginning was way too scripted. I don't mind the story cutscenes but I got pretty sick of being told exactly where to go for the first opening segment without being able to do a single thing else. Even after you finally get sent on your path, I still find myself a little annoyed at the really crappy artificial roadblocks everywhere. Yes, these have always existed in Pokemon, but most of the time they were at least clever or actually helpful, whereas in this game it just feels like stifling exploration. I'm sure the same was true of X/Y, but I honestly don't remember a lot about that game, other than "oh there's a power outage, go somewhere else." I just wish it would stop cutscening me into events and just let me go to them at my leisure.

But that said, the world is wonderful. Like I was happy about in preview stuff, it's not a grid anymore! It feels like actual geography, and that's fun. The music is nice for the most part, especially the battle theme and Hau'oli's daytime music. I also like the difficulty curve, even early on I actually felt a little pressured in the fights; as mentioned, that second Totem was harrowing.

Most of my friends agree that the beginning is dull but things really get better as you progress. Hoping that's true. It's the shake-up I wanted, but the railroading is hurting me a bit. Maybe it'll make up for it soon.

Anyway, here's my team:

Owliver (Dartrix) - Level 23

Tubby (Makuhita) - Level 20

Bree (Pichu) - Level 19

Walter (Slowpoke) - Level 19

Sherbet (Grimer) - Level 19

Rory (Growlithe) - Level 19

... sad lack of Gen VII's, but alas. And yes, another Pichu named Bree, so what? I had a second named Domi, but put him in the PC after catching Growlithe. Something else will fill Bree's slot later. Then I can pull her and Domi back out and have fun in the postgame.

Also I accidentally stole the name "Sherbet" from a friend. Whoops.

What was the save bug that was mentioned a few posts back? I'm probably not going to get into this game for quite a while, but I was thinking of using a tool or something to trade my existing Pokemon up. (Yes, I know about Pokemon Bank, but that's not compatible with Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, etc. I want to compile ALL of my Pokemon together.) It's going to suck if I'm going to have issues with that one. Is that only with PKHex, or would the Homebrew Bank also trigger it? (I don't like the idea of having to pay extra money for something that's been the main selling point of the series for 20 years. I don't ever plan on playing online, and my "hacked" Pokemon are all just going to have identical stats to their legit counterparts, so it's not really cheating.)

Maybe if I compile everything into X/Y, and then move them over legit from there? Hmm...

I'm at the 4th island, myself, been hopelessly addicted to this game when I'm not working way too much.  I'm about to do some plot crucial stuff with Solgaleo, but first I need to grind up my party... Trying to train up a couple of Pokemon for a big fight ahead.  Might use a Sandshrew from Russ, but then I'd have to give up on getting Ninetails because of the stupid ice stone restriction... Anyway, here's what I've got as mainstays, ending for the night:

Smuckers (Torracat) - Level 50

Rocky Road (Lycanroc) - Level 49

Cabbage (Lurantis) - Level 49

Macaroon (Passimian) -Level 49

Others that I'm considering but having a hard time on settling:

Cocoa (Mudsdale)

Honey Bun (Ribombee)

Sherbet (Muk) (Yeah that's right, TS got it from me)

Margarine (Mimikyu)

Udon (Toxapex)

I'm sticking with either Gen 7 pokes or alolan forms, which unfortunately the former's selection of water types aren't all that appealing to me (Mareanie's design was way better than Toxapex's...), and the latter doesn't even have any water types.  Also, I'm not too fond of using legendaries usually but hooooo boy do I like Solgaleo's typing and design.  May end up using another since it can have any type- which means I've found my water type- and I realllllly like its design. (No, it's not just Arceus anymore :P)

It was an bug with an old build of PkHex, don't have to worry about it anymore.  Personally, I would use PKSM, as it has local bank support for gen 4 and up, including Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Here's a link to it if you're curious:  http://wololo.net/20...on-saves-store/

PHBankGB only works for Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green, as Gen 2 was never officially supported on the 3ds, and I'm not sure if you can migrate them to Sun and Moon yet.  Once the official PokeBank comes out, I'm sure people will figure out how it works and have it be supported for PKSM or Homebrew Bank.
