What's with 95% of PureZC and ponies? I don't understand the obsession. Can someone explain this to me?

Lauren Faust (formerly a writer for the Powerpuff Girls and the co-creator of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) started a new My Little Pony television series that's basically a total middle finger to the fact that the old MLP shows were animated infomercials. The new series, titled "Friendship is Magic", is extremely well-written and developed, the animation is fantastic, and above all it's a very enjoyable watch. Most of your initial enjoyment will actually come from your surprise at the fact that you're enjoying it at all.

The general reaction to the show is something like this:
A friend of yours: Hey, so um...you should watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Your reaction: My Little Pony? Pffft bwahahahahaa! Yeah, no.
Friend: No seriously, you should check it out. It's surprisingly good.
You: Okay, I'll watch the first episode, but I'm still dubious...
*You watch the first episode*
You: Okay, that wasn't too mind-numbing. Maybe I'll watch episode 2 just to see how they conclude this story...
*You watch episode 2*
You: Okay, that was kind of awesome. I guess I'll watch a few more episodes...
*You watch up through episode 7*
You: [speechless and in tears]

Everyone says that episode 7 is kind of the point of no return, where if you've watched up to that point, you're not going to stop until you've watched them all.

I was gonna drop in and post this, but I guess I should not be at all surprised that it had already made its way here.

Ha, in the first few moments I quickly recognized the song. The original would be pretty appropriate for simple fan music video, but I see that it turned out to be a parody. A very well-done parody, really. I guess it helps that the singer was able to auto-tune the whole song, but still: very cute.


Side note:

My sister and I want to watch more of this series, and it's available via Comcast On Demand, but there's a problem: the episodes are not all available at the same time, and they don't tell you what number they are. So if I watch via On Demand I basically CAN'T watch them in order, or even know what the order is.

This is frustrating, because I'd at least like to watch the first few episodes in order.

It's called youtube, dude. Hook your computer up to the TV via HDMI and watch them on youtube.

Oh, also, I think we MIGHT have a new convert. I just got FefeRawft to watch the first episode, and he says now he wants to watch the second one, too.

My sister and I want to watch more of this series, and it's available via Comcast On Demand, but there's a problem: the episodes are not all available at the same time, and they don't tell you what number they are. So if I watch via On Demand I basically CAN'T watch them in order, or even know what the order is.

There's always Wikipedia's episode list. And YouTube has every episode - if you want to watch them on your TV as opposed to your computer, YouTube works on the Wii's browser perfectly well, albeit with video quality that isn't exactly amazing (I just watched an episode on it today with my sister). I assume you have a Wii for this? Everyone has a Wii, right?

Ah, you're at Snips and Snails? Yeah, Faust was disappointed that Hasbro wouldn't let her put in cooler male characters. Albiet Big Macintosh is pretty awesome, and Spike gets cooler as the series goes on. But there are also some pegasi who appear in ep 16 and then again in 23 that are basically the MLP equivalent of Beavis and Butthead. But they redeem themselves as well.

Don't let it get to you. Hasbro put limits on the male characters, but that's why Faust made Rainbow Dash a tomboy. That's why people love this series - for every disappointment, there's an awesome screw-the-rules counterpart.
