I hate to bring up the pony homosexuality topic again, but I'd just like to get my say in, since I was asleep at the time. IMO, when it comes to things like this, people should generally follow the rule of "If unkown, assume the majority." I'm not saying there should be absolutely no fanfics where ponies are gay/lesbian/bi, but seriously, the amount of them is too damn high. You'd think it was canon, at this point. Anyway, that's that discussion over.

I corrected your punctuation for you; you had a comma splice, which I fixed with a semicolon.

Technically, both would be correct, depending on the length of the pause between the two sentence fragments.

If I may (and this is sort of a tangent), it only seems absurd when you consider every shipfic in proportion to every other shipfic, when really, each is their own story and pays no regard to what others have written on the matter. It's like with Cupcakes - Pinkie Pie kills Rainbow Dash. But if someone else writes a fanfic where Rainbow Dash kills Pinkie Pie, that's not a flaw in EITHER fic, because they're two separate stories, and should be treated as such.

Each shipfic (well, okay...each WELL WRITTEN shipfic) takes the concept of a SINGLE lesbian couple. One pairing. One coincidental meeting of two ponies with the same preference. People want to write romance fics, and considering the steep ratio of male to female ponies in the show, it becomes a tad dull when you ship the same stallions over and over. Especially since there are so few stallions in the foreground of the show (almost every stallion known to the fans has been a background pony made famous because of the fanfics).

Unless of course you think polygamist ponies are somehow better than LGB ponies.

And that's the last I have to say on the matter.

While I understand your point, I still think the amount of lesbian shipfics is awfully high. I mean, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against gays, lesbians or bisexuals but when the majority of shipfics for a show involve characters who are not lesbians in the canon, but are in the fic, that's a bit odd. Also, I see your analogy to be slightly inapt. Pinkie killing Ranbow Dash and Rainbow Dash killing Pinkie, despite both involving one character murdering another and the main characters in each being the same, would most likely be entirely different stories, whereas the majority of lesbian shipfics are the same story, but with different characters, and some other specifics being different.

This would be a good reason, if it weren't for two things: First, why does a romance fic have to be shipping? What's stopping people from using an OC? Nothing. Sure, if you specifically want your romance fic to be shipping, fair enough but otherwise, you could just create a character. Secondly, this reason seems to only be the reason for a fraction of lesbian shipfics being, well, lesbian shipfics. Most of the people who write/have wrote lesbian shipfics only seem to do it because it's what everyone else does; it's the supposed cool thing to do.

Also, something I just realized I should probably clarify: My problem isn't with lesbian shipfics, it's with lesbian shipfics involving charcters who are not confirmed to be lesbian (and often with those confirmed to be straight).

Anyway, we should probably stop discussing lesbian shipfics, as I doubt anyone's opinion is going to change, and there's nothing we can do about the amount of them.

I think you underestimate how difficult it is to create a quality OC. And for that OC to be the star of a romance fic...forget it. 9 times out of 10 it's simpler and more practical simply to ship two existing characters.

Even though I am a Furry I was never really big on MLP shipfics, I just watch and enjoy the show, YTPMVs, and Youtube Poops, and sometimes some artwork and fan flash animations.

I don't care much for shipfics either, but I defend them because when they're done right, they are capable of being the best stories out of all the fanfics you will ever see. It's not the genre that's bad, it's the grade of writers they attract.

I agree completely. Unfortunately, finding a good, well thought-out shipfic is kinda like trying to find an incredibly tiny needle in a very large haystack. While playing Battletoads. Without dying. Using the Power Glove.

I'm staying away from any kind of NSFW Pony content so that I can watch the show with complete peace of mind. I'm already confident enough in what little masculinity I opt to preserve around my being while watching it, but if I were to stumble across something NSFW, I wouldn't be able to watch the show anymore with the same light-hearted appreciation that I now enjoy.
