While I see what you're saying Prospekt, I'm kinda with Jared; the perspective looks weird with the waterfall coming that far out. Everything else looks perfect though. Old school style screen design with a newer tileset. Works really well.

I figured I'd repost here to get comments on the screen content itself.

I'm pretty sure I'm misusing the tileset, but I'm having problems improving. Help appreciated.

First room of Level 1 - Swamp Well.
The top screen looks a little empty to me. Are those other areas on the top of the screen meant to just add visual effect? If so, I would add detail into them. If they are part of the playable area, I would still add detail. icon_smile.gif The bottom screen screams AWESOME to me though!

I am telling you this right now, I love your screen design. The whole height difference on the screen with the waterfall is quite nice. I love that effect. You have very nicely detailed screens. Keep up the awesome!

Truthfully, I believe you are using it perfectly. Very GBesque feel to this screen. Love how it looks!

That's really comforting considering that I'm struggling with overworld screens. icon_biggrin.gif

I may put up some dungeon screens when I start working on level 4 of my quest.

Slightly unsure about this: is the variety of grass details too much here? I can't decide if I should use a few different types per area or just mix them all together like this.

Well, I think it looks fine just like that. As long as you have enough other different landmarks exclusive to each area to keep them all different, I think you'll be fine.

I strongly recommand using one or at maximum two different sets of grass detail per area. Throwing them all together looks chaotic (in a negative way).

I dunno, I think it looks rather nice. I like how the tall grass tiles are used as a sort of texturing for the grass as well. The screen looks quite pretty, in my opinion. Feels like something I'd want to play.

I liked the variety, but that isn't bad either. Go with which ever one you like better because both of them look fine. icon_biggrin.gif

I seen this image when you linked to it in chat Yoshimi! I have to say, that I LOVE IT!!! It makes me think of it the GBA didn't have color, but had the graphics. icon_biggrin.gif Great screenie Yoshimi!
