Now I wonder how Granny Smith got her apple pie cutie mark- because by all means, considering this story, she really should have a zap apple cutie mark.
I think that's because she was one of the people who started the apple industry there in the first place. It's not that she specialized only in Zap Apples, but that she really started the apple farm partly due to finding the Zap Apples. It's like Vinyl Scratch specializing in only one song, and having that one song as her cutie mark. Probably wouldn't happen.

The part with the jars was obviously a shout out to Meet the Soldier.
Could've been, though I don't play enough TF2 to really notice it. Could've just been a test for the bottles to ensure none would break. I liked how they had to speak to the water. I did smile a bit.

I was certain that Granny Smith was just senile up until the end.
So was I. Things are amazing when they have an actual context placed on them, such as each odd habitation being explained. Things make a whole lot more sense. They're still people; they're just worlds apart. I'll bet kids look so silly when an elder looks at them too.

Slightly" delayed opinions on the episode.

That was awesome. Probably not my favourite Season 2 episode so far, but it's still quite high up. I wasn't expecting at all that Granny Smith would end up basically being the founder of Ponyville. However, I am quite disappointed about the missed potential for Big Macintosh to get a decent amount of screen time. He doesn't appear often enough. But, I don't think I should worry about that too much.

Also, this was probably just because of what Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle said about that batch of zap apple jam being the best because of Apple Bloom, but was anyone else expecting that, at the end, Apple Bloom would actually get her cutie mark?

Oh, and, forgot to say this when writing the post but, with this episode, Applejack now appears more often than Twilight. That's...kinda weird.

Why is there no love for Fluttershy at all this season? She deserves AT LEAST two episodes, if not more. Pinkie Pie's just FINALLY getting her first episode two weeks from now. Applejack and Rarity have had MAJORITY of the spotlight so far. Granted, it's good that my two least favorite ponies are giving me reason to appreciate them ("Sisterhooves Social", "Sweet and Elite" and this episode were all exceptional episodes), but as a Fluttershy fan I feel she's been sorely neglected thus far.

I couldn't agree more. IMO, it's not just Rarity and AJ, Ranbow Dash has been hogging a fair number of episodes too. Of the 16 episodes with known plots, 10 (arguably less, it depends on whether you count Episodes 6 and 12 as AJ ones and Episode 10 as a Rarity one.) focus on one of those three, 13 if you count the ones that focus on all of the main cast. Fluttershy and Pinkie really need more episodes, and another Twilight one couldn't hurt. But, there are still ten episodes left of the season, so they probably will get at least a couple episodes. I have a feeling that Episode 17 might be a Pinkie one, but it could go in any direction, really.

But in all seriousness, that was a pretty good episode. Certainly made me smile. Bit of a shame that Applejack was the only one of the main six that appeared in it, though. And that this is now the second Applebloom episode we've got this season, while Scootaloo, Fluttershy, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie haven't got one yet.

Ehh. Still a good episode regardless. Looking forward to more.

I've recently likened moving into the dorms as moving from Canterlot to Ponyville. It's like moving from a place that's not super social to a place that is.

And the theme for door art (soon) is probably going to be spirit animals. I might put up a pony, but I'll probably wuss out and use an arctic wolf... Maybe I'll do both.
