Started watching Kill la Kill yesterday and Hyperdimension Neptunia recently.

Kill la Kill is possibly one of the best anime I have seen, and I have only seen episode 1 so far.

Hyperdimension Neptunia, I can't really explain much, but I like it.

Blazblue: Alter Memory, I have put on hold. Heard nothing but bad things about episode 5 (also, Arakune is behind Relius in the credits picture, but still will not eat him).

Finished getting current on a bunch of series in time for finales. Meganebu had a heartwarming but awesomely stylistic finale. Outbreak Company surprised me with the dark turns it took after 10 episodes of almost solid comedy (I stuck with it mainly because, after watching Madoka, I can no longer trust cliche comedies to not suddenly become dead serious).

Kyousougiga and Kyoukai no Kanata's finale episodes made very little sense, but I enjoyed both of them.

Arpeggio of Blue Steel had what I would call the absolute best finale of the fall 2013 anime season. It was completely mind-blowing and epic and unlike most finales this season, it actually made sense. Probably my favorite series this season, with Meganebu as a close second.

I still need to get current on Kill la Kill, Strike the Blood, Log Horizon and Pokemon XY. I saw the first episode of Kill la Kill and despite my fondness of Hiroyuki Imaishi's work, it reminded me how very sick and tired I am of gratuitous fan service in anime. With the level of fan service Kill la Kill has, I wouldn't sit through it if it were by any other writer (excluding Rumiko Takahashi, because Ranma 1/2 is of undeniable brilliance). I am giving it the benefit of the doubt, and it had better pay off.

Finally will be getting to watch attack on titan after not being able to find somewhere to download all the episodes.

Found a place/torrent to download them and I'm going to be watching them as soon as I can get them downloaded.

Watched the second episode of Kill la Kill.

It's not a good series.

The episodes pass quickly and it's only set for 24 episodes, so I can stick with it for the sake of finishing what I start, but I was expecting a lot better from Trigger (their previous work being the absolutely astonishing animation of Little Which Academia - compared to which, the animation of Kill la Kill pales). I get it in certain scenes where the animation is crappy for comedic effect, but that effect never really goes away, not even for *serious* scenes. The animation is always crappy, even if the art is good. And with all the fan service they throw in, the art is seldom good.

In short, the only reason I'm sticking with it is because a) I've already started, and b) I'm hoping the storyline will save the series. But it is a sinking ship.

I don't really have any problem with Kill la Kill's animation at all. The fanservice can be annoying but I love the story and the humor and the characters of the show so far. It's very entertaining, and has a few gems. ... and strange gems mixed in. And a badass soundtrack to boot. Of course, final judgment reserved until the series is over, but so far, I love it. I don't think the animation's bad, I just think that's the style they chose to go with. And honestly, I think it works great.

As for me, apart from Kill la Kill, I got into Nichijou based on the recommendations of a couple of friends. It's insane, nonsensical, over-the-top, and lacking in any sort of conventional direction whatsoever.

I love it.

I think that's actually what bothers me the most. They're obviously capable of nice, fluid animation, but outright chose to make it jolty and inconsistent. If it were a lack of ability I wouldn't have a problem with it - I watch low-budget anime all the time. But from Trigger, it's obviously deliberate, and I don't understand why anyone would do that deliberately.

Nichijou's pretty amazing. It becomes even better about 2/3 of the way in when you start to realize what all the WTF actually means.

I mean most people figure out before that, but episode 16 completes the metaphor.

From my understanding, the budget for Kill la Kill isn't just low, it's practically non-existent when it comes to anime.  Studio Trigger has done a few other things, but nothing that has really gone over well.  (Little Witch Academia didn't do that well, for example.)  So, the animation is the way it is for both effect and to kind of make up for the low budget.

Though, personally, I think it's neat and definitely gives the anime a different feel than most series.  Would I like all anime to have it?  No. :P But I think it's fitting for Kill la Kill.

Wait, Trigger is low-budget?

I guess I just mean in terms of appearance. Even if Little Witch Academia didn't do well, you'd never know from looking at it that they were low-budget. The animation was the exact polar opposite of Kill la Kill. Fluid. Seamless. Often beautiful. The overall animation of LWA is the reason I expected better of Kill la Kill. But if they're truly working on a wireframe budget then I'll make a note to be more lenient.

Yeah, Trigger is low-budget.  The studio is still pretty new and doesn't have the large amounts of cash in the bank that, say, KyoAni, SHAFT, or even companies like J.C. Staff.  Yes, Little Witch Academia looked great.  It was a beautiful production.  But it was a one-off video.  It wasn't a full-fledged series like Kill la Kill, so it didn't require as much money.

I guess it just seems odd, then, that they'd jump right into a double-season anime. Of course the overall production value is going to drop if you go for 24 episodes rather than 12.

I finished watching Steins;Gate and here are my final thoughts after the final episode (before the OVA)

This anime is one of the best animes I have seen in a while. It literally has everything I ever wanted in an anime. Awesome characters, awesome plot, and awesome artstyle. If there was one issue, then it would have to be the confusing beginning which I had to watch the first two episodes twice in order to understand what's going on.

And when I got to the final two episodes, I was just stunned that:

Spoiler

I'm just about to watch Wolf Children. I've been hearing a bunch of great things about this movie. Let's see how it goes.

I've seen it with my friend. It was alright. The beginning felt way too fanfictiony and I'm not sure how high I am on the concept of this whole wolf ability, but apart from the beginning it had an alright story and some cute moments. Didn't think it was anything particularly special though, but the animation was really good.

I saw part of it with a friend, though we were hardly paying attention as we were too busy talking about stuff and messing around with our Pokemon games. When we did, I found it hard to take anything seriously because we were already being crazy goofy. (Like me going on about how it's PG and I can't watch it, losing my mind whenever there were bare shoulders and other stupid shenanigans.) I would like to go back and watch it properly though, since, as mentioned, the animation was nice and there were some neat bits from when I was paying attention.

I just finished watching Wolf Children. This is a pretty legit movie. TS was right that there really isn't any moments that will blow you away. The strongest area in the film is character development. I believe that this is the highlight of the entire film as it covers through how Mother Hana raised her two wolf children and how they grew up in their life whether to live like a human or as a wolf. I really don't want to compare this to Spice and Wolf because S&W was more of an economics type anime. But overall, I really enjoyed this film. I didn't get bored one second when watching this. I recommend it to anyone. :)

Though on a side note, I disagree that this film being rated "PG". And because of forum rules, I'm not allowed to explain why. You can PM me if you want to know my reason.

Having seen the movie, I don't really think explaining why you don't think it should be PG would be against the rules. Though I don't think there's anything particularly objectionable about it (except the fanfictiony beginning), nobody really bats an eye about that stuff in Japan or so I keep being told.
