I think it's the overabundant (Too much) dirt. Try putting some more grass.
Yes, that's it. Make the path less wide; make it more skinny.
And this is some of your best designing. So just stick to this tileset, and make quest from it. You are getting no where re-making the same area's with different tileset. I got caught up in the same trap.

Jared, it looks pretty good, but I can't shake the feeling that it seems a but empty. If there's a small tree of some kind you could add to the left side of the river, north of the grass, I think that might make it perfect.

Another screen from my quest

Note: It is supposed to be pretty simple, but this screen seems to be missing something..
What happen to your GB quest? It looked nice.
A little too green, try a secondary colour for the tree. Also I feel like that the palette is making it feel empty.
Other then that, it looks pretty cool.
A little request.... FINISH YOUR QUEST!

I'll sure try to finish my quest, it's just a pain using ALttP houses, whenever I tried to make the screens below these with ALttP houses, they looked really stupid in the area I placed them...
Tip: Just place houses, I don't care where, just make it look good and finish the quest.

Psilocybin.
I would appreciate feedback, by all means. Though I am hoping for more than a, "that's cool." Please address full criticism.
This and my Z1 Remastering are my projects, going smoothly.

That is just amazing, Marco. is the palette from the game? It accommodates the tiles greatly. The structure is also great. No way back if you jump off!

The water on the bottom left portion of the screen is missing a few tiles to go with the mountains. It looks like it's floating above it.
