Completed the entire overworld for my secret project and I'm now working on the final dungeon!

Seeing my progress, I assume that this quest project will be completed by next week. It won't be on the database for quite a while though :P

I've been reflecting on some of my screen designs in the earlier parts of my quest. While I feel like I have some really creative looking screens, there are also some other screens that are very bland and are poorly designed. I pretty much have all of the content I want for this demo. I just need to really focus on trying to make my screens look as interesting as possible before the expo starts. Lets get the polisher started. Broom broom!

I made a sort of "streamlined" arrangement of the default subscreen.  Every area has an 8x8 border around it which also serves as a border for the area next to it, and I have about a tile and a half wide blank sidebar on either side.

I haven't kept up on this thread since before the new site came online, so I just had to click through over 150 pages just so the "Go to first unread post" link doesn't take me back to one of the early pages from 2011!!!  (That's an accomplishment in and of itself! :heh: ) Oh well.  At least it's done.

Funny glitch I found when testing to make sure the cave here worked. Don't know how to fix other than to place No Enemies flags all over the mountains. They're on Layer 1 yet this happens...

...

Hey, RedMageAdam, I saw no one replied to this.  The Zora spawns on water that is on level 0 of your screen.  You can fix this by either making a new combo that looks like water but isn't "Water" type, or by putting a solid non-water combo on layer 0 and then layering water and mountains over it.

Now, as for me...

Not today, but I recently finished my first quest!!!   :awesome:   Unfortunately, I've already had to submit an update to it, just yesterday in fact. :heh:  Eddy (and 1 other person, I think) was kind enough to report some bugs he found, so I fixed them and uploaded the first update.  (I've had it playtested by myself and others in ZC versions 2.10, 2.11 and 2.50 before releasing it, but hey, sometimes we miss things. )

So, yeah, that's what I've accomplished lately - a finally finished quest and a first update. :)

BTW, I was quite pleased tonight to find that GrantGrief took the time to do a Let's Play of my quest. Thx! :kawaii:  He's only recorded up to the middle of level 1 now, but he did a swell job at finding the hidden Slash sword ability on the overworld (as well as finding the boomerang, blue candle and raft)!

STUFF! Inspiration smacked me upside the head, and I scripted some cool enemies and planned out what I want to do with a short little area in my quest. After months of being too busy to do anything, it feels good to get stuff done.

I made something for someone somewhere sometime ago.

Yay?

(Actually, I created several sprites for my own project, and a few sprites for someone else's.)

I ended up using "No Enemies" flags. I could have also done what you said and made a water combo look alike and just had it set to none. EDIT: No Enemies flags don't work on Zoras.

EDIT: After finding out about a quality of life script and getting over myself, I added a script to my mini-quest that allows item switching with A button item selection. Thanks to Lejes for that. In addition, I've come up with a name for it, but I won't reveal it just yet :P.

Well, found out today that Zora's laugh at the "No Enemies" flag and will STILL spawn on Water tiles even with a "No Enemies" flag on the Water combo, so I ended up having no choice but make a water tile that was simply a typeless solid combo. Made a few other fixes after I glitched out the sword slashing and stabbing animations setting it wrong in the animation editor. Also, can someone explain why I CONTINUE to get nasty lag spikes where my game will run at 45 FPS then for a while, go back to a normal 60 FPS? It will alternate between normal FPS and lagging. Nothing I seem to do fixes it either. Also, the level 4 cheat and the A/B button quick switch fix script don't get along. All I was trying to do was switch my A-button item and the game kept either making me animate super fast or reduce the screens to showing walkability.

Well, I don't know for certain on this, but I've heard of lag problems caused by a lack of something like a "Waitframe" command, without which the computer tries to run at maximum speed causing lag.  Of course, that might've caused a lot more lag than you're describing, but I just thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

It seems to happen in all quests played on ZC, whether it's the original Zelda 1st quest or a custom quest. Also, what really seems weird is that if I have a Skype call going, it seems to make it not lag. However, I have to keep the volume down as it gets on my friends' nerves hearing me ZC'ing. It makes no sense to me at all. When I used to have it in windowed mode, I tried to change its priority but that would only solve the problem for a short time, if at all. It kind of reminds me of a graphics issue I had with Minecraft since 1.3. It seemed to have issues where the HUD/GUI would flicker away for a frame and water would do the same. However, if I set my FPS cap to VSync, I would no longer get that problem. Kind of weird that getting too high of FPS would cause graphical issues.

Oh, and in the case of my mini-project, that lag occurred before adding in the script, so that's definitely not the cause.

If the script lacked a Waitframe in its loop, it wouldn't cause lag, it would lock up ZC entirely. Adam, not a lot I can do about cheat keyboard shortcuts (which don't seem to be documented anywhere?), but I can add a bit to the script to disable the item switching if any cheats are active, if you want.

It's fine. It's just an issue with my controls. Then again, considering nobody would be using cheats anyway (I only use them when testing a quest), I don't see it being too serious. I mean Ex1 and Ex2 are Q and W respectively, which are the level 4 cheat keys for quick movement and walkability respectively.
