Meanwhile, after a long break, I'm still stumped on how I'll go about doing the corridor rooms for my castle map.  When I attempt them, they come out as bland or just uninteresting.

Even the corridors in the Hyrule Castle in Spirit Tracks look bland. So I'd say don't worry too much about it. Just make the corridors as good as you can right now, and later you can still add on it.

I made a list of priorities on what I would like to get done before the expo.

^Sorry for an off-topic post, but is a forum going to be made where you can submit a post similar to the Winter 2014 expo? It's about 2-3 weeks away and I haven't seen it yet. Just curious because I'm betting people are getting anxious to submit their entries.

Going to be adding in some scorpions to give the desert/sandy areas more variety. One thing; why are scorpions always such powerful early/mid-game enemies? Found some sprites I will use for other enemies as well.

I love deserts. Would love to see pictures. Powerful enemies mid game is usually nice provided a reward static or dynamic.

Now. Today I made an ultra 8 bit palette with varying saturation to nail that perfect color needed.

I'm no professional crayola Crayon Paint mixer but I feel this palette is outstanding and offers appropriate hues. Contrast some 9 bit palettes on bigger scale has either had too little spectrum balance or irregular saturation.

I realized how close the Expo is, so I hunkered down and finished my 8x8 overworld. The finished quest needs four of these, but I think that one of them will suffice for a demo. Now I just have to build a couple dungeons and link up the various doorways/caverns and I'll have something ready for the Expo. Of course, I'd like to have my full idea complete in time, but I don't think that's going to happen, so unfortunately, my quest demo is going to look like a ripoff of Link's Awakening. It'll have unique dungeons, but the overworld is currently a shrunken down Koholint.

It actually just opened a while ago, and I was freaking anxious to submit this.

On the topic of expos, I just submitted my Hero's Legend 2 entry into the expo! This is my first time submitting to an expo so I hope things will go well :D I also want to note that the poll where you rate the quest will be public. Forgot to mention this on my entry, but I honestly don't think it will be too much of a big deal.

Are you saying that all your DoR Hybrid are belong to you? :tard:

Seriously, though, it looks nice so far.  One serious question: Is this supposed to be loosely based on Emerald?

Yes it is, actually. I've gotten a lot more done since that plebian picture though XD

Well, added in the Startropics 2 scorpions in the mini-quest and will do the same for Adam's Quest II when I get around to it. Gives the desert area more spice. No more boring Leever and Tektite spam; bring on the scorpions. On another note, I have finally decided on a name for the mini-quest, but that will be revealed in due time.

I also went ahead and added an item you get some final items you'll need for the final dungeon. The only problem is that I had to use cheats to test it because only 1 out of 3 Triforce pieces are added at this time. At least I know I don't have any technical issues with the hybrid of Big Triforce Pieces and 3/6 Triforce Pieces rules active, though I had to tweak the locations of each number so it looked like you made a third of the Triforce per dungeon. Just need to figure out what music level 2 is going to have now.

Just completed Level 8 on my secret project. All I have left is to finish the overworld and then it's off to Level 9!

Made a couple more areas. Almost everything is ready for the expo! Just a few more tweaks and major play testing this coming weekend.

For kicks, I did an any% speedrun of my mini-quest up to what I have finished ATM. Despite having the game drop down to 40-45 FPS for no reason which it does after a few minutes of running no matter what I do, I was able to chalk up a decent 11:36 run. The goal was to simply get inside of level 2, since I didn't really start on it yet other than the first room past the entrance. My run had a few mistakes but overall wasn't bad at all. May attempt to top if I could somehow find a solution to ZC lagging like hell. It doesn't matter how many programs I close, what the priority of ZC is set to and whether or not it's in fullscreen; it always lags. It's not like I'm running ZC on a Windows XP with 256MB of RAM (though on my old laptop, ZC had a different kind of lag; the controls would lock up for a few seconds at a time; no slowdown). I have a 4 GB RAM Windows 7 and it runs like garbage for no reason at random intervals. I simply cannot play with the immense lag. And that's just a plain NES-style quest too. Imagine me playing a script-intensive quest with that kind of lag...

I think for the hell of it, when I get a chance, I'll kill myself at random places and ensure there are no continue bugs or anything like that. Just curious; does dying, F6'ing and using Farore's Wind all have the exact same result when it comes to returning you to the DMap's continue point? In other words, would I only have to do one of those three to make sure there are no continue bugs so I don't have to do all three? Because I'm beginning to wonder if I really need to do all that to test for that kind of stuff.
