That is an awesome comic.

I have nothing more to say.

EDIT: Actually I do... Regarding the pony collab quest.
I have an idea for an experimental mechanic for a pony quest. It's as good a place as any to involve ponies. icon_lol.gif

You have one hour (real time) to prepare yourself for the final dungeon. Or you can enter the dungeon early.
DavidReinold: you're in charge of the story.

Yeah. I'll come up with a different global mechanic- one that's a little more friendly to ponies. I'll have about five months to leave my signature mark on the quest, and that will be a (more or less) unique mechanic. (And some spritework- likely with the Elements of Harmony.)

So, will "Link" be a pony, dragon, human, or other species? I could see quite a bit of potential in young dragon Link. Or perhaps Spike.

I'm all for a free-roaming overworld, as usual. icon_razz.gif Although I'd argue that it would make sense to not allow entrance into Twilight Sparkle's dungeon until after the others due to the Element of Magic being so powerful and important.

We need a separate thread for this. I'll start one up as soon as we get a headcount. icon_biggrin.gif

EDIT: Never mind the scratched out stuff. I misread your story.

Also, there could be quite a lot of interesting gameplay mechanics (and flavor) just from being a pony. You'd probably learn a different spell from each of the ponies' quests as well as plenty of other sources.
Applejack: Hookshot (Flavored as a lasso)
Pinkie Pie: Bombs?
Rarity: Gemfinder? Lens of Truth?
Rainbow Dash: Bow/Arrows?
Fluttershy: Animal Assistant?

Obviously, most of the work on the quest will be spritework. We need a few good sprite artists. We can use Classic graphics as placeholders, of course.

I could help with some of the sprites, (mainly ponies) but I am usually very lazy, and evidently, when something I should be working on has something to do with ZQuest, what I call "The Luna Effect" takes place. The laziness has been doubled! Eh, I dunno, I might.

Also, that comic was pretty good. But why is it that people seem to always give Lyra an obsession with humans and/or human traits, such as hands? Is it because of that one time in episode...I wanna say 7, where she was sitting like a human?

I'm thinking more along the lines of...

Applejack: Lasso (sticking with that, because I was thinking it too)
Pinkie Pie: Party Cannon (like a bomb, except it explodes forward from your character and does so instantly after hitting the command, rather than a delay)
Rarity: Cloak of Everfree (makes you invisible to enemies and sensors/etc. Also allows you to cross bottomless pits)
Rainbow Dash: With the bow and arrow, I'm thinking it should just be a generic item, but then be associated with Rainbow Dash when it becomes the "Rainbow Arrow" (MLP equivalent of the Light Arrow/Silver Arrow)
Fluttershy: Taming Flute (slows down enemies in a screen, but also makes them unkillable. Basically an escape method, which fits Fluttershy well. Enemies reset when you leave and come back.)

Yep. That one scene spoke volumes about Lyra's personality.

Yep. That one scene spoke volumes about Lyra's personality.

I suppose it could. Personally, I can't gather any information about her personality from it, but I suck at that kinda stuff, so yeah. I also find the idea of humans and ponies co-existing very odd. I mean, I like what you've done with MAPH (since that is basically the exact same as, well, real life, but with ponies and humans swapped) but the idea of humans and ponies existing in the same universe...it just doesn't seem right to me. Even when it's implied by what has happened in the comic: ponies having knowledge of humans with no reason given. (And, in this case, ponies having knowledge of humans existing in other universes. Seriously, what the hell?) But, yeah, I guess that's just me.

Also, for the quest, I think the Lens of Truth being used to represent Rarity's gem-finding spell would be a better choice. You could use different coloured gems to indicate different things, such as pink meaning you need to use the party cannon, blue meaning you need arrows, etc etc. Maybe you could even use scripting to let the player dig stuff up like money or keys. Although, I do understand why there could be a concern of that item not technically being neccesary. Also, IMO, the Cloak of Everfree doesn't really make much sense to be an item Rarity gives you. I mean, she's never really that sneaky, so why would she have something that lets her sneak by enemies? (Also, if there's one thing Rarity wants to do, it's be seen. icon_deformed.gif)

Why do I ramble so much?

Hey... I've got the same idea... I wanna make a MLP Zelda Classic game too. icon_razz.gif
I had still made a Twilight Sparkle hero sprite. ^^ (but it's not very good I guess...)

The thing is I want Rarity's and Fluttershy's spells to be genuinely useful for veteran players.
In OoT, after playing it fifteen times, you start to remember where all the invisible and fake walls are.
Fluttershy's spell should be vital for solving certain puzzles, whereas Rarity's could be a disguise of some sort.

And since Twilight Sparkle doesn't learn to teleport until episode 3, we could embellish that slightly and have her learn it in the final dungeon. Or even earlier...

As for the passive subscreen: I'm seeing Twilight's horn as the magic meter. It will recharge over time. (L1 magic ring) Hearts, conveniently enough, work beautifully to represent life, with possibly only a palette change.

Every spell except levitation requires magic usage. The party cannon will have ammo. The lasso isn't a spell. The "sword" will be a book that Twilight levitates around to attack. (Like in Fighting is Magic) You will also be able to levitate other objects in the environment to attack. (Press A to pick up and swing, press B to drop or throw)

Wheeeeeee! Totally legit double post! For what it's worth. (just a bump)

Now about enemies... I have a few ideas:
Parasprites ~ Keese
Diamond Dogs ~ Leevers
Snakes ~ Ropes

How to implement items:
Lasso - Hookshot. Plain and simple.
Rainbow Beams - Bow/Arrow combo that requires magic to use with hidden magic quiver.
Party Cannon - Scripting. It's not too hard. I scripted functional bomb arrows once.

Dungeon location ideas:
Fluttershy - Froggy Bottom Bog
Rarity - Diamond Dog Caverns
Applejack - The Cellar (At Sweet Apple Acres)
Pinkie Pie - The Fourth Wall (IDK...)
Rainbow Dash - Cloudsdale?

Also, DavidReinold: we need a title so I can create the quest collab thread. I'll work on a barebones tech demo to show off the levitation (attack) spell.

Off-topic: DO NOT WATCH THE DEATH NOTE ANIME. Feel free to read the original Death Note manga, or watch the live-action Death Note movies...but the anime, no. Not worth your time. If it's animation you desire, watch something legitimately interesting like Cowboy Bebop or Gurren Lagann.

It's just...it really only works as a manga. The anime, though fundamentally the same as the manga in every way, is more dull due to the method of presentation. They don't do anything to make the long, drawling conversations particularly engaging (at least with the manga, the dialogue reads quickly and has an interesting style to it). The anime has so many unnecessary silences at times, and goes overboard on the surrealism effect without properly implementing the drama and tension behind the scenes and interactions.
