I've also managed to beat Phantasmagora of Flower View on Normal, but had to use a continue on Stage 7 because its so unfair. It seems like your opponent will just outright refuse to take even a single hit until you die enough times and have to use a continue, at which point the final 3 opponents seem to drop like flies. Stage 6 seems to not let you through without killing you at least once also. Anything to keep us out of the extra stage I guess.
Also got 2/3 of the way through the final spell attack on Mountain of Faith on Normal without a single continue up to that point. Its almost entirely impossible. The whole screen gets covered in lines, curves, and blooms of bullets coming out in all imaginable directions, and your own spell attacks are almost useless due to the range being severely crippled for just that one attack. I've yet to finish the game because of that attack, even after making 6 hours worth of attempts in a row one day.
Also, for those who don't know what the Touhou games are, or haven't played them, even Easy mode can get unbearably hard. Normal is far worse than a Hard difficulty in most top-down shooters.
