You should do it and post a screenshot. I wanna see how it turns out. icon_smile.gif It's your choice though. icon_biggrin.gif

I love it. icon_biggrin.gif Maybe, perhaps a little *too* dark?

No, it's nighttime, damnit! Gosh...you'll only be in the night stage for a total of three minutes, people! (Unless you wanna do useless exploring :3)

Looks better now Jared, with the removal of that tree that was overlapping oddly. icon_smile.gif Perhaps some "moon beams" would make it easier to identify it as an actual nighttime shot. icon_shrug.gif

Finally got this working after a bit of tedious work:

Without the snow:

Looks great, Octorockoncrack! Very ominous. With some freaky sound effects, it'll be awesome!

Was thinking of putting this in SotW, but I used a different picture instead.

I must say, this looks pretty cool. It looks like the star things either warp Link upward or have something else to do with light. I'm wondering if this is a dark dungeon on purpose? That face on the wall looks like it's there for a reason, but it doesn't look like it's bombable or any type of passageway.

I guess the only questions I have are regarding gameplay. The screen itself looks great! It's a little dark for my tastes, but hey, if you need it to be dark then don't change it.

I think the screen is top-notch. Good job! The change does look better, but I think it was great to begin with.

Heh, I do have a freaky sound effect for it. icon_lol.gif

You see, the title only shows the background at first, then there is an ominous laugh (taken from the dead-hand miniboss from OOT). Then the screen flashes, and the text, snow, and picture of the dark entity appear.

This screen is more of a test room, but it was to gather ideas of how my caves in the game will look. I wanted to go for some OOT styled caves, so the star tiles are the little pads that warp you out. The screenshot is a little mini-cutscene of link floating upwards, which activates when you touch one of those star tiles. The face on the wall was just more for decorative purposes, I just was trying to find new ways to spice up the screen.

These are simply me experimenting with the tiles, I didn't really sit down and try to make amazing screens. But they still look good.

This guy.

I'm really digging those cave and lunar-esque tiles. They surpass the majority of ripped tiles; excellent quality. The flow, balance, unification; super.

However, the lava region isn't too hot. aha. It just needs an alteration on the brown palette, to contrast better with the reds. Additionally, maybe a few more wall detail tiles would spice it up.

Those are some awesome pics, Franky! Although, I'm not sure if Link will be able to beat Dark Bahamut or Zeromus... icon_freak.gif

icon_lol.gif Guess I'm not the only one who recognized the tiles from FF4!

Looks great, Franky! I just hope the three-tile-high walls from FF4 won't clash perspective with the 1-, 1 1/2-, or 2-tile-high walls of regular Zelda graphics. Probably not; I think it just means the cave's ceiling is a lot higher than regular caves.

In the 2nd picture down (3rd picture overall), the left side of the gate shouldn't overlap the ceiling like that. I think the right side is fine because it's on the corner of the ceiling.

Sadly I agree! icon_cry.gif

I wasn't the only one who ripped these tiles, thanks will be giving fully when my quest is done. My job is to make them work in Zelda other then graphically. It's not as easy as it may seem!

@Marco: The brown cave tiles were the first ever tiles I imported and edited myself. Many of the tiles had to be edited and I am not very good in that area. The tiles didn't come with animated water, so i had to edit almost all of them and see if I could get them to work with lava or water. The DoR lava looked the best at the time, now that I am becoming better with ripping I should be able to find something that works better with them. icon_smile.gif

Edit: If anyone is willing to rip FF tiles for me, let me know! They will be very important in my current quest, and I will give you credit!

Testing out how some tiles will mesh with each other.

Would you believe I'm actually using PR? icon_razz.gif (I may as well have started with DoR though. icon_xd.gif)

One thing I'm not sure about is the shadows for the individual trees. I kinda need them for the bunches of trees though. D: (Well, maybe I don't need them. XD) The bunches of trees will essentially replace the typical LttP brush tiles you often see. Also, the statue is possibly my save point for this quest.

Thoughts?

(Again, I'm not concerned about the design of the screens. I'm more worried about how well the tiles mesh with each other.)

Spaceman Dan,

The shadows under the trees should be darker the closer to the tree you get; the farther away, the lighter. Right now you have an even shade throughout the shadow. Just make the shadow darker closer to the tree. It may force you to make separate tiles just for the shadow immediately around the tree.

Other than that, the graphics look to me like they mesh well together. Nice job!

I like this best. The grass doesn't work well with the dirt and water (so you might want to replace either the grass or the dirt and water) but other than that it it pretty effective. The palette is really nice on the eyes, I like that. However, I think the design has to be much richer to do justice to the high quality of the tiles. The flower's black outline bugs me.
