Last year, I tried beating 3 of the classic Castlevania games, but only managed to beat the original. Now, for Halloween, I'm making it my reason for living to beat Castlevania III without any assistance, other than the "HELP ME" code that gives you ten lives, which is pretty much mandatory for this game...
I am on the final level right now, and I am questioning why I consider this my favorite Castlevania game...
I don't know how you feel about emulation, but you could give the Famicom version of Castlevania III a try later on if you like. There's even a translation patch for it, not that you really need a translation for old-school Castlevania. It's designed more fairly; the American version tossed in some extra bullshit to make it more tough. And according to some, the Famicom version of the soundtrack is far better. Not me though, I actually prefer the American version's music.
