Fair enough. Maybe I'll do it once just to see it happen, then reset.

And did I say Julius Mode? I probably meant to say Alucard Mode. :heh:

Last year, I tried beating 3 of the classic Castlevania games, but only managed to beat the original. Now, for Halloween, I'm making it my reason for living to beat Castlevania III without any assistance, other than the "HELP ME" code that gives you ten lives, which is pretty much mandatory for this game...

I am on the final level right now, and I am questioning why I consider this my favorite Castlevania game...

I don't know how you feel about emulation, but you could give the Famicom version of Castlevania III a try later on if you like. There's even a translation patch for it, not that you really need a translation for old-school Castlevania. It's designed more fairly; the American version tossed in some extra bullshit to make it more tough. And according to some, the Famicom version of the soundtrack is far better. Not me though, I actually prefer the American version's music.

No need to reset, you can just discard the gear that was meant to be stolen by Death.

I've considered doing that honestly, though, I've gotten so used to the BS in the American version, that playing the Japanese version would feel like an easy mode. I might try it out one day, but I kinda like the extra challenge... kinda. Also, I prefer the NES soundtrack over the Famicom's as well, which seems to be an uncommon opinion. I don't know what it is about traditional chiptune music, but it always gives me goosebumps... The only song I actually prefer in the Famicom version is Riddle, but that's because they shortened the song on the NES version for some reason...

I've reminded myself why Abaddon is a terrible boss. I'll get through this and to the end of Julius Mode eventually...

What problem have you with poor good Abaddon? He's a nice guy ='(

It's the locust swarm. It shreds through you way too quickly, and in the heat of battle it's easy to get mixed up and torn apart. And yes, I've been using Julius's whip and cross to help mitigate the swarms.

Throw knives rapidly at him... oh, you're not playing regular game mode.

Actually, after glancing at a video before I tried again today, apparently he's kind of laughable as Alucard, and the abilities used as Alucard are abilities Soma can use, so I'll be keeping these in mind if I play Dawn of Sorrow again in the future to make him not a pain. :heh:

Anyway, Julius Mode beaten. Once I figured out the mechanics of the Dracula fight—errrr I mean Soma totally not Dracula at all nope—it went pretty well and I liked it. Basically I used Julius and the cross and whip against the first form, classic, then during the demon phase, switched to Alucard to rapidly swipe at him while using the bat to avoid certain attacks and get over him when I was getting closer to being cornered. So in the end, not too hard, but it was still a fun fight.

I guess that, for now, concludes my Castlemania. I certainly am not entirely ready to let this series go, and even if they're not so great I want to play the Game Boy games, as well as Adventure ReBirth, and even Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness sometime. Part of me wants to torture myself with Lords of Shadow at some point...

And there's still scouring to do in Symphony of the Night, but that's more of a side thing anyway.

Castlevania month was fun.  Sad it's over.  Ah well, I uploaded a bunch of tracks if anyone is interested.

Here's a couple of the best ones I managed:

This entire thing's pretty great but the Clockwork portion of this song, which starts less than a minute in, is sublime.

Very awesome sounding, good job. You got a longer copy (more loops) in a more friendly format like FLAC or 320Kbit MP3? (Like double the number of loops presented in the video)

I may have made a mistake.

I bought Castlevania: Lords of Shadow today, for the 360. I'm prepared to not have a good time.

Keep us posted on all the terrible things the game features and how poorly it handles level design etc.

Thepsynergist posted a link to a FLAC copy of this that doesn't fade out if anyone here is interested in a high quality version that can be looped. It's mentioned in the Youtube comments.

I do, actually, sorry for taking so long for finding this post.

I'm rendering a 4 loop sequence in .ogg, for file size reasons.  388kbps.

http://www.mediafire...slash(8bit).ogg

EDIT: To above post, that one was only 2 loops.
