The design is a mess, a nonsense chaos, full of cheap enemies and traps. It's obviously quite amateurish, and the game never tried to hide it. Lacks any professionalism in design. There isn't any care in the natural pace of the stages, it just a gimmick fest without any sense, just for the sake of show "See how amazing my programming skills are". But as a game, it lacks any value and I hate it with passion. Add to that, that the hack has unfitting music and atmosphere and you have a really terrible game.

It reminds me of Megaman 2, but more fun. What made the difference for me was definitely the weapons. Almost every weapon in the hack was metal blade overpowered so the copious enemy spam wasn't such a problem and the seemingly unfair enemy placements actually encouraged me to use the weapons for a change. If you don't have the right weapon for an area or try using just the buster, I can definitely see how it would feel overwhelming, though.

Basically, Minus Infinity laughs about this...

The issue isn't only the difficulty, I'm skilled enough to beat that thing. But if the game is designed with little care about fitting enemies, music and coherent environments or terrain, I'm totally uninterested about it. There are a lot of tile errors and bad use of the graphics, and you know what I think about the music.

Even if I have a rocket launcher to destroy everything, this hack looks, sounds and plays bad for me, and it's impossible to get into it, if you have at least a eye. I have my limits.

Oh, so you were talking about the enemy theming, not placement or difficulty. My bad.

I'm 100% with Air Luigi here. Infinity isn't just poorly designed, but a general mess of some good ideas translated without almost any criteria into a video game. You just don't throw ideas into your game like that, and even if Megaman games don't need too much consistency or a coherent universe in order to make the player have fun, the lack of these two always matters (and, again, Infinity isn't well designed anyway).

It isn't about WHAT. What really matters is HOW. That's the way every artistic piece works, even if my english sucks (:D :D :D).

It's hard to believe how a super talented (and skilled, and creative) dungeon designer as Moosh can't see something that's so obvious for me, but oh well -> this is just, like, my opinion, man.

Zelda design experience doesn't directly translate to everything else, unfortunately. I've tried designing Mario levels and got very mixed reception on them. All my Megaman criticism at the moment comes from playing the games, so who knows if I'll design some platformers some time in the future and say, "Wow, I was dead wrong." I know I had that happen with some of the quests I played before I got into designing them.

Wow, it seems from reading all the posts in this long thread that Air Luigi believes: Not Mega Man 2? Its shit.

I've never played RM4MI, but I did see gameplay and even a TAS of it; I do agree that some of the music may not be fitting in some stages, but I personally liked it.

I know exactly what you're getting here. I wanted to make levels for Doom/Doom II, but I had no experience in making one from scratch; it was so complicated and confusing. Editing them was easy, but I knew it would be morally wrong to use someone else's map as a base without asking first. It wasn't until I realized that making maps wasn't for me, so I tried doing sprites, and got progressively better at it.

As you can see, you can't do two, three, four, or five things at once and expect to be good at them (even if it means saving time). You just need to do one thing at a time. Once you've mastered it, you move on to the next thing. ;)

(I apologize if this was off-topic, but I wanted to make a point here.)

I enjoy Mega Man 2 more than probably all the other NES Mega Man games.

It is good.

For some reason, I'm good at the NES Mega Man games, and Mega Man 7 on the SNES(except for Wily's final form which is the ultimate troll).  But I suck big-time at the entire X series.  From what I understand it's the other way around for most players.

Mega Man 2 would have to be my favorite, followed closely by Mega Man 6.

Not Mega Man 2? Its shit.

It's your right to not like it, but if a game this old still divides players to this day... it must have something to it? Mega Man 2 is 26 years old and still has a devoted fan base. How would a genuinely "shit" game still be played and loved after so many years?

I've said it once and I'm going to say it again; One is entitled to their opinion.

It's okay to not like Mega Man and I have no grudge against those who despise him, because that's their opinion. At least he's not boring, unlike Bubsy. :P

The same way people still watch The Room. chansub-global-emoticon-ddc6e3a8732cb50f

Also, you're misinterpreting the post. RCG isn't saying Megaman 2 is shit, he's saying that it appears to him that Air Luigi thinks that any game that isn't Megaman 2 is shit. Which isn't the case, but us guys who don't like Megaman 2 are a little too used to people singing its undying praises (like people do for Ocarina of Time or Final Fantasy VII), so for some it might be easier to interpret one's love of Megaman 2 as an "all other games are inferior" attitude, even if that's not the case. :P

Yes, I see now that I misunderstood the post. Sorry about the confusion.

Seriously, did you get that impression? That worried me a lot, my english still sucks a lot, then.... xD

BTW, my favorite Megaman game "technically" is Megaman 9. But even that game isn't as memorable (or original) as 2 was in his time. Kill me for seeing games as an overall experience, where everything matters X) I enjoyed a lot Megaman 4 in my last play, but one more time, it lacks any emotion for me.
