Curse distance learning. Because some high school in Selma Alabama needs an AP Gov teacher (and we have one) we are now a distance learning class. Which makes it really, really weird to make jokes as is my custom.

Isn't distance learning a way of showing you're understaffed or underorganized as a school? Granted, learning to learn and work by yourself without a teacher present is a useful skill ...

Still, I couldn't agree more fully with you Ebola.

Pretty much, yeah. Our school started doing it 2 years ago. I mean, 110 students in a k-12 school, 8 full teachers, rural school. Now people can take psych and business classes. Whoopy. Boy, I love Saskatchewan rural school education!

Last year, my entire class was forced into taking Information Processing 10/20 (grade 10/11 level). Needless to say, the class sucked. They were pretty much basic computer classes. IP10 had us learning the wonderful world of typing practice, spreadsheets, powerpoints, and ERGONOMICS! Though it had a bit of flash at the end, which was kind of okay. IP20 had a little less typing practice, photoshop (oh man that was boring. 20 minute lectures about how to edit an object over a background. and then he'd repeat it next class), and making cheap video productions in adobe premier elements. That last one was a nightmare ARRRRRRRGHkjsasdlfjh. I'd be called into the other room where the rest of my classmates were to help them because their music didn't work. I told every one of them how to fix it (change the path so it's full, and not cut off to /per723/my music/happygolucky.mp3), and I proceeded to have to do it for the year. Gah. Hell, he rated every single one of mine perfect, and said he wanted to show my first one at some showing in the city or something.

...Which has a hilarious story to it, but this is getting too off what I was saying at first.

Ha. I worked in the most secluded spot in the school (the library), with 3 pretty awesome friends, and still got a teacher assistant watching over our backs. Hell, I got most of my work done at home because of computer limitations at the school, and she insisted I do something like practice typing for an hour. You don't really get a higher typing speed when your own is 83 and you have to type sentences that have never changed in the past 8 years.

Ironically, the 4 of us in the library had the highest marks in those classes, while the others all in the math room were near failing.

Milkshakes are best with a lot of banana.

Exactly a week ago, ( ... .. Yeah, pretty much exactly...) it was a Jewish Fast day. One of the major ones, too. Hadn't eaten or drank a thing for 24.75 hours. I still went to work that day. The first thing I had when I got home, after the fast ended, was a banana milkshake. OH GOD. OH GOD. It was awesome.

I took a typing course in my Sophomore year of High School in that condition, aye. It was only this one girl and I who had a typing speed faster than, say, 20 words per minute, at best. I'd finish all of my typing projects in the first three minutes of the class then surf the internet for the remainder of the class.

What is it with these awesome spacers in my post. I like them!!!!! I'll keep them. :smily:

I don't think :smily: actually puts a smily in your post. Really a misnomer. Somebody higher up on the emoticon ladder should fix that.

But more on a less spam note, I have successfully loaded all of my emulators and roms onto my USB drive, meaning AP Gov is going to turn into "Try to beat Kid Icarus" class. I'm on level 2 after 2 weeks! icon_frown.gif

The teacher of that IP20 class was the vice-principal of the next school over. His son was a sub for our Industrial Arts class once. So he would be at least 40 or so.

So, I make this pretty boring movie made up of a scrolling textbar of lyrics, 5 or 6 guys I drew in 30 minutes in photoshop, added them in with some transitions, and put Blind Melon's "No Rain" to it. I hand it in, and he marks it as a 10/10. The assignment was basically just make a 30 second movie out of 5 images and a song, with transitions and some text, so hey, it worked. He adds a message to the mark, saying, and I quote, "Layne this video is great!!!! can I send it to the film fest??"

In the meanwhile, one of those previously mentioned pretty awesome friends hands in hers. She's not the most serious person in the world. Hell, she and another of my friends randomly text messages to the teacher just for laughs, though he never replies.
So, her video was basically this: It started with a black screen, with the word "cat" in big white letters. It then went to a blown up picture of a cat. Then it went back to the black screen, with the text "cat food", and then it went to a blown up picture of cat food. Then a dog, a picture of a mailman, the girl from Finding Nemo, Nemo from Finding Nemo, and then it ended. However, the entire thing had loud screamo music playing during this, just because.

A few days later he gets around to marking her handed in items, and she checks her messages only to see that she had gotten 10/10 on all our video assignments at the time, and one of the 10/10's had a message asking her if he could send the video to aforementioned film fest. We spent 15 minutes going through confirming what video it was, for it to turn out to be the one I just described. We checked with the rest of the class, and we were the only two who got the message. He later asked us again during class, and we both politely declined while choking from laughter in the library.

Our theory was that this 40 year old, presumbably married vice principal guy had a crush on her.

Damn the number of times I got yelled at for doing that. "You don't have ___ open!" " You haven't done anything yet!"

Man, I even get yelled at for thinking on something too long.

Next time I ever have to do any presentation, I'm stealing that.

Sorry to change the subject, but I am so happy. For a year now, we have has a mole tearing up our yard. My dad has tried everything to kill it, but nothing has worked. Today, when we got back from boating, our neighbor was there to greet us. He pulled out a pick ax. The mole was impaled on the end of it. I'm so happy about it!

The new OLPC looks like it might be fun too (won't be available for a year or two). Imagine it like a PC/DS hybrid: A laptop with a second touch-sensitive screen instead of a keyboard (which fucntions as a touchscreen keyboard). But you can also pick it up sideways and use it as a two-page "book".

EDIT : Sometimes, an image says more than a lot of words ...
