Okay, a change of plans for me. I think I told you guys that I'm getting a PS4 at launch. I decided hold out on the PS4 and give it at least 6 months for it to get games that I like for it. I'll wait as far as next summer for it. So instead of the PS4, I decided to take advantage of the new Zelda WW HD bundle and got the Wii U. I'll post my Nintendo Network ID very shortly. Let me get your Nintendo Network ID's.
Yup, I had pre-ordered the Wind Waker bundle, so I'm playing that. It's really gorgeous, and I really don't have much to complain about. I'm mostly playing on the gamepad though, because the TV in my room sucks, but it's nice that the only thing that needs to be plugged in is the power cord for the Wii U. If I play downstairs though, I can play in 1080p, which... is very much preferable, except then I can't talk to anyone on the internet. I only wish it were easier to transfer my VC games from the Wii to the Wii U, and if they all had off-screen support. But sigh, Nintendo...
I was also playing through Fallout 3 and Thief Gold, but giving them a rest for a bit.
And as the cherry on top, I'm glad I can play my original Wii games via HDMI instead of using component for my Let's Play videos. I can tell you right off the bat that the Wii's sound quality sucked when doing Let's Plays.
The fan translation of the first two cases of "Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor's Path" came out the day before yesterday. I started playing that earlier and just finished the first case. Unlike every other game in the series so far, the first case is much more than just a short tutorial, it's actually a very lengthy, very meaty case that will actually keep you guessing as you play through it.
I don't really care what you feel about piracy and ROMs, if you like the Ace Attorney game, go find a ROM of the Japanese version, patch in the translation, and get playing! Then you can cry after you finish the first two cases and realize that now you're going to have to wait on the rest. On the bright side, the people releasing it said that they already have all of the images edited (newspapers, signs, etc.), so it seems that all that's left is just translating and re-inserting the script. With any luck, the rest of the cases will be finished much faster than the two years it took to get this far.

Yeah, and that's why I'm not gonna play it yet.
I love the Ace Attorney games to death, and of course I've been eagerly awaiting the ME2 translation. It's kinda funny, since the first game was probably my least favorite in the series... but I loved Turnabout Ablaze (it's one of my favorite cases of the series), enough to get me excited for the sequel. It's not like "I need to play this NOW!" or anything, but I definitely am eager to try it out. But, I'm gonna wait, because I can't stand having to stop half way through something so story-intensive as Ace Attorney.
Can I ask something outta curiosity? I remember reading that Edgeworth has a new shoutout in the game (I think "CHECKMATE!", to go with the whole Mind Chess gimmick thing, but I could be wrong). So how was that handled in the translation? Did they have a different voice actor do all his lines? Or did they just get somebody with a really similar voice to record that line?
@Coolgamer: How long have you taken in Pikmin 2? My fastest time at clearing the debit is within 10 ingame days, which is close to the fastest I believe you can get it in.
Some tips for getting the debit done quickly:
Do as many caves as in a day as possible and, if possible, rush to them (this includes abusing the Super Spicy sprays you get to hasten up the process of building bridges/knocking down walls and even to making sure that your pikmin stay with you as you make that last-minute rush to somewhere like Shower Room). What got my debit cleared by the end of Day 10 was me rushing to get in all of the caves, no prior work done except to get Yellow pikmin, in Perplexing Pool except Submerged Castle (god I hate that place) in a single day.
Miminize having Pikmin take stuff to the onions unless you don't have many of a particular colour (ie. Days 2 and 3 or immediately after getting the Yellow and Blue Pikmin respectively). That would include taking berries to the ship, which can easily eat up time.
Don't be dainty with your Pikmin. A certain abount of caution should be exercised when going through narrow spots (ie. bridges) but don't meticulously try to keep every single freaking Pikmin alive. Small losses of like 2-5 through rushing to say Snargaret Hole isn't so bad. You get larger losses and you should be more worried.
At first I think I beat pikmin at about 100 days.... Though I made a new file recently and I think I am at 24(I have terrible memory, It could be even 8 days) days and have 30% of debt payed and have not lost a single pikmin (Well I had to reset alot for that). I also take all enemy's I defeat in the caves to the escape pod for a few extra pokos(I think that is what the money is called).

Um... Sorry. I got really into it and wasn't looking out for stuff like that. If it helps any, the translation was handled so professionally that I couldn't tell throughout the entire thing that it wasn't officially done. The only thing that felt out of place was that the bad guy in the first case has a voice that doesn't quite seem to fit the character, but that's just my opinion.
I'm going to be busy for most of the day today, but when I do get a chance to play it again, I'll try to remember to pay more attention.
Update on the AAI2 game. I'm playing through it right now, going through the second case. I went through another Logic Chess segment, and this time actually paid attention to everything.
The "CHECKMATE!!!" bit has been removed entirely. There's no big shout image, and no audio clip for understandable reasons. Obviously, they don't have an audio clip of Edgeworth's English voice actor, and it wouldn't sound right to use the Japanese sound or to try and use a voice double. What it has been replaced with is a simple text box reading "Checkmate". Before you get disappointed, the way it's used reads more like a subtly bragging victory remark, very much fitting with Edgeworth's personality more than shouting it out at the opposing character.
Speaking of voice clips, if anybody else here starts playing it, does Edgeworth's "HOLD IT!" clip sound off to you guys? I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it sounds slightly different than it should for some reason, at least to me.
Anyways, in case anybody's curious about how the "Logic Chess" mechanic plays out, here's a quick description. What happens is, Edgeworth begins by giving a brief explanation of the opponent's personality as a hint on how to approach them, and clarifies the goal of the match, a quick reminder of what information you're trying to get from them. Do any of you remember that "Socrates Jones" flash game that was brought up a few days ago in another thread? Imagine that, only simpler and with a time limit that doubles as your health bar. You question the opponent first to gather clues from what they say, waiting for them to accidentally let out more information than they mean to. Once you do so, the conversation tree resets to an earlier point, and you work through it again, waiting to use the information you got the first time around to find a flaw in a different part of the conversation tree.
The chess motif is treated in a similar way as the Psyche-Locks were in the main series. Each conversation topic that you'll have to go through in a Chess Logic segment is represented by a black chess piece on the opponent's screen. The more "health" a topic has, the stronger a chess piece you'll see, so a topic that only needs "struck" once or twice will be represented by a pawn, and topics with more "health" will be represented by stronger pieces such as bishops and rooks. When you choose to "attack" in your conversation, your sentences will be represented by white chess pieces on Edgeworth's screen. Wrong choices that fail to advance the conversation, as well as small flaws that you've found will be represented by a pawn, while large alibi-breaking flaws that are guaranteed to work will be represented by a knight. If you choose correctly, you'll shoot the white piece at the black one, and the targeted piece will either spin in place, meaning it still has some "health" left, or shatter. If you choose something wrong, like badgering an opponent when they're angry with you and only managing to piss them off farther, your shot piece will shatter uselessly and you'll lose a chunk of the time meter. Don't worry, though, the time meter only depletes when you're actively choosing a conversation branch, and you shouldn't ever have to worry about it running out.
It serves its purpose as a gameplay mechanic, but after things like Psyche-Locks and Apollo's bracelet, it's a bit disappointing. Kay makes an early appearance in the first case and serves as Edgeworth's partner throughout the two cases, but I'm probably more than halfway through the second and Little Thief has yet to make a return appearance, which is a bit more disappointing as well. Still, the writing for the two cases is incredibly good, so as long as it continues to improve throughout the later stories, it should make up for it. So far, the writing is actually a bit better than the first AAI game.
By the way, as is tradition at this point, there are a ton of returning characters in this game. So far, I've seen...
Spoiler
Shelly DeKiller
Frank Sahwit
Regina Berry
Inspector Lang
Larry Butz (not in-person, but alluded to)
No doubt I'm forgetting a few, but it's rather fun to see these characters again.
EDIT:
Spoiler
Holy crap... If any of you guys thought these games were too short, you're going to be pretty pleased with this one. I thought I was nearly done with the second case, but I just ended up at a save point. Just the second case, and it's gone on so long that they've had to pull that re-organizing evidence trick they did in the final case of the previous game, when they throw out the evidence that's not needed anymore to prevent the case from getting too complicated as it drags on. I mean, damn... They usually save that for the final cases, not Case 2!
Spoiler-ed not for story reasons, but discussing game mechanics that possibly give away too big of a hint.
Picked up GTA 5 just Saturday and been playing and boy I'm am not disappointed with the buy the game is huge and full of random crap to do I think I'll be busy for awhile
And also still working on M&LDT going quite slowly...
For my new Wii U, I started playing my first game WindWaker HD live on twitch. Great game so far! I hope to play more on my next stream. I also got New Super Mario Bros U. It's a solid Mario game. Definitely A LOT better than New Super Mario Bros 2. Though I gotta admit, it definitely does feel like New Super Mario Bros Wii in HD. I'm also getting ZombiU very soon. I can't wait to try that one out.
On PS3, GTA V and Xillia are my two main games. I'm having a fun time with GTA V though I wish the PC version was available. Chop is such a cool companion so far...I mean the first Chop mission lol. Almost done with Xillia. Now I'm just doing multiple side quests before the final boss.
I beat the final boss in Persona 4 Golden, so now I'm in extra innings, so to speak, before heading to the secret final thingy. This game is so ridiculously good, but after about 70 hours I'm ready to be able to sink some time into other games. I'm hoping to finish up Rayman Legends before next Friday, when I'll be getting WWHD.
I picked up GTA V this past Friday but haven't played it a bit. I've been watching my wife play it however, and that's been a lot of fun. Seems like they've improved a lot of things in the game and the shooting engine is the same as the ones seen in Red Dead and L.A. Noire, which is excellent.
Yeah, I didn't jump into playthrough #2 right away. I decided to play other games and then try to go for the Platinum trophy once I'm ready to tackle this game again.
also...
Whose idea was it to have Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Tearaway for Vita, and the Xbox ONE released on the same day? Now I'm glad I cancelled my PS4 preorder. It's time to save up $140 for those three games.
