I'll agree with you on Lesson Zero, but I dunno about Sisterhooves Social. I'll admit it's hilarious how Sweetie Belle managed to burn orange juice.

Luna Eclipsed is definitely one of the best Halloween specials of any TV show that I've ever seen.

I read Darkly Dreaming Dash. It's good stuff.

I noticed a semantic issue:

...while the colt, being younger, had a light-green coat and pure white mane.

The aside "being younger" implies a connection between age and colors. It needs to be reworded.

Wow, way to not be a dick to Jayson Theisson. Seriously, the man's almost as much of a genius as Faust.
^

Really? I thought Faust was the only genius behind FiM. I guess season 3 might not be too bad...

What you're not taking into account is that he doesn't content-check the stuff he reads. He reads it on request and always posts his first take. For example, with Pretty in Pink, he mentioned people told him it was sad, but he sounded extremely skeptical. By the end he was nearly falling to pieces. You could hear it in his voice, and you can see in the comments that he wasn't faking it for effect.

EDIT: Also, just throwing this out there - IMHO, Lesson Zero and Sisterhooves Social beat every episode of Season 1 by a long shot.

Yeah, you got a point there. Those episodes were pretty awesome. (even though I don't particularly like Sweetie Belle)

Jayson Theissen is just plain awesome. His ideals coincide almost perfectly with Faust's. And you can tell just from listening to the interview he did for Equestria Daily, he's got an awesome personality and the perfect attitude for the show. He's already well acquainted with the flow of the show - he was supervising during the entirety of seasons 1 and 2. Keeping the quality going won't be any trouble for him

If the quality has dropped at all with season 2 (and that's a HUGE "if"), I'd say it's nothing more than a sophomore slump, mixed with the need to get the new writers acquainted with the procedure.

That was completely deliberate. I very much wished to imply a connection between age and color. Look at the two fillies whose families we've met: Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle's respective color schemes are much lighter than those of their siblings. And it's the same with humans - most kids I know who were born blond ended up with brown hair by the time they were 10.

Oho! Clever. I never thought of it that way...
Althoug IIRC, all of the Mane 6 had the same color schemes as fillies.

Just one thing about colors: The only 2 normally-colored ponies we've seen are Dr Whooves and Derpy. All the others are horses of different colors. icon_awesome.gif (Ha! I've been wanting to use that pun for weeks- which by the way, I'm surprised it hasn't ever been said on the show.)

This was most likely due to the fact that it wasn't really a conscious decision on the animators' part. Lauren Faust gave Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle lighter color I out of what I assume was instinct of design - a small detail that would come naturally to any Faust-caliber designer, but that never reaches the conscious thought stream. Whereas in the writing process of episode 23, it would have been up to the animators to change the color schemes. And, as they are animators and not designers, it never would have occurred to them to lighten the colors. Nor would it ever occur to Faust to tell them to change it.

At least, that's what I'm guessing. It seems to check out, anyway.

Excellent point, my good sir!

If it weren't a novel, I would suggest having a footnote about that. icon_razz.gif

Since it's just about the end of the semester, we had a review day in math class and someone put on Christmas music...

At one point, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing! came on... and it sounded a lot like Ashleigh Ball. I can't seem to confirm this, unfortunately. icon_unsettled.gif

So... a friend of mine said she wants to design and sew humanized pony costumes for a MLP:FiM cosplay group at a con in Seattle this April, and is asking for volunteers. I said I could be her guinea pig for a male version of a character. So I guess I may be acting as a bit more of a brony in time.

I told her my favorites are Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy.... and Derpy Hooves. icon_deformed.gif ...But I can't imagine a male Fluttershy, and Rainbow Dash is too cool of a tomboy for me to want to take that one away from one of the girls. So it just might be a male Derpy Hooves.

Time for me to practice my wall eyes.. icon_freak.gif well, actually, I don't think that's even possible to do on purpose, so I guess I'm gonna have to go with crossed eyes. icon_heh.gif

(*Note: "wall eyes" is the opposite of crossed eyes, with the two eyes facing opposite directions rather than facing each other.)

Actually, I have a friend that can do it rather well. It's pretty frightening...But that's beside the point. Good luck with your cosplayin'. icon_razz.gif

I've never been much of a fan of anthropomorphic cosplays in general...

But good luck.

Man, how would you actually do that?... Cross-eyed is easy: you just attempt to look at the tip of your own nose. Wall-eyed, I can't think of any a trick to help me do that.

Oh well. As long as my eyes are wonky and I look all herp-derp, I'm sure it'll go over well. icon_deformed.gif

Well, while it's true that this technically counts as "anthropomorphic," it's sorta coming at it from the other direction. Rather that taking an animal and making it human-looking, it's taking a person and giving them one or two animal features. There isn't really a word for it in English, but there is in Japanese: "kemonomimi," which basically means "animal ears."

It's basically the difference between an anime catgirl and a furry. icon_razz.gif It's also the difference between a fursuiter and someone with just a pair of cat ears on.

Heh, I know someone who sells buttons at conventions. One of them says "CATGIRL - Not a %#$@ing furry"

(It should be noted that said person actually likes anthro, he just has a very sarcastic sense of humor)

And now for my obligatory opinion on the new episode only minutes after it's finished:
