Well, I just watched the new episode, and I gotta say... Steampunk helicopter tortoise named "Tank" was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen.

Also, dunno who else read the original synopsis of the episode, but it specifically said that Scootaloo was entering a race to see who would be Rainbow's pet. I was really, really worried.

OH! OH! That's...um...At the Gala! I love that song!

Thanks for pointing that out!

Here's the parody version from the show BTW:

Oh my goodness. This is so freaking weeeeird. icon_xd.gif Knowing the original musical for years, hearing all of the little subtleties presents a rather unique feeling.

The fact anyone associated with this show even knows who Stephen Sondheim is has earned it several respect points. Of course, now I'll forever associate one of my favorite musicals with My Little Pony.

The writers for this show have no shortage of wit, albeit they make it subtle, as it IS a kids show, but there are all sorts of little nods to other works. Constant Lord of the Rings references (Canterlot was based on Minas Tirinth, one of the Diamond Dogs talks like Smeagol, Twilight has a Smeagol moment in S2E03 in which she develops a split personality and starts talking to her reflection in a puddle). John DeLancie (Q from Star Trek: TNG) plays the new villain from Season 2. In episode 22, Celestia is basically Dumbledore (Fluttershy kills Celestia's phoenix and Celestia is all cool about it). And of course, the not-so-subtle nod to Star Wars at the end of S2E02:

Of course, this all pales in comparison to parodying a broadway musical, but still. Lauren Faust was quoted as saying that she didn't make the show for young girls, but rather, young girls and their parents. So to NOT find references dropped all over the place would actually be quite a disappointment.

That video is fantastic...Just saying.

I'm still heavily amused, if not more amused, now. I approve of the witticism that has become evident in this series. icon_heh.gif

I highly recommend watching a few episodes. It won't hook you right away (perhaps it won't hook you at all), but if you like what you've seen thus far, I think you'll appreciate it.

(You DEFINITELY won't like ALL of it, though. I'm the most hardcore fan of the show you could possibly ask for and even I have tons of complaints).

But yeah. Check out an episode or two. They're all up on youtube.

So, I've never watched the show, but apparently MLP did a spoof on a song written by one of my favorite Broadway composers and I'm very curious as if to anyone knows it or can at least recognize the similarities...Try to listen to the whole thing, if you can.

Stephen Sondheim is my favorite person ever. The end.

That's also not the only Stephen Sondheim song there's a spoof of in MLP. Episode 14 has a spoof of Putting It Together.

And before you ask, no, I do not know this because I am a Stephen Sondheim fan, as I am not.

I hope Vinyl becomes an official character with her fan name.

Holy snap, that was great. Really enjoyed it. Almost thought that was her real voice for a moment. (I thought it was too effeminate, though.)

Here's another.

I love Hardstyle. <3

Hey, just thought I should let you guys know, sometime soon-ish (before the end of the year, I'll make sure of that), I'm gonna start writing an MLP fanfic. I've felt like doing it for a while, and I've finally made up my mind. There's still a couple things I gotta work out, though. For those interested, it focuses heavily on Rarity, and will feature an original character, but I will say no more for now.

Yes, her name is DJ P0N-3. But it's such an unreal name that it's assumed it's her stage name. The fans dubbed her real name as Vinyl Scratch.

...I think.
