Lol, the literal opposite of what AVGN's peeves with games are. "What if you get a phone call or something? You want it to go quiet." I've never personally minded it too much either way, but in terms of preference, I like it better when the music continues to play unaltered; it makes recording them that much easier o3o.
It's actually weird that I would prefer the music to keep playing when paused in Metroidvania titles but for games like Mario or even old-school Castlevania I don't mind if the music stops when paused. Maybe it's the style; there's really no reason to pause in the Mario/old-school games other than to take a break, take care of something else, or maybe assess the situation, and silence would certainly help for the latter. In games like SotN, though, you use the pause menu more often for item swaps and stuff like that, so constantly interrupting the music gets annoying; Zelda's never interrupted music when you paused, and it's much better that way.
Plus the music's just so good that I don't want it to be stopped.
Didn't say yet but I did beat SotN a couple days ago and it's still absolutely fantastic. I'm probably gonna go make sure I get every item and map segment, maybe even try glitching out to fill up the percentage even more, and try other things; assuming those glitches are still intact in the 360 version. I also want to play Richter Mode for fun.
Oh, and I just beat the first Castlevania game again. It's even better now that I know it. Only trouble is I've built strategies around using certain items, and if I die, or worse, lose it to a random item drop from an enemy I wasn't expecting... there goes the entire strategy. Still, the only part of the game I don't like is the underground cave, because of how the enemies can catch you off-guard while on the moving platform, and also how mermen can jump up into the wall and walk through it. And also fall on top of you with little time or room to react.
The rest is still pretty great though. Maybe it's also time to run through 3 and Super Castlevania IV again...
