This really isn't necessary. The guys are just there for backwards compatibility; nobody really uses them anymore.

Really nobody use's them?. I use them. I'm sure some other people use them.
Its a lot easier to use them instead of using other ways to make NPC's maybe people don't want to do scripts to make one.

You don't need scripts to do it either. Just set the guy to "empty" and put a different guy down on the screen like a combo. Viola. Infinite possibilities for guys, without having to change anything hard-coded.

But in that case you need at least to fiddle with the guy a little if you, for example, want him to disappear after having done so or so. Also, unless I'm mistaken, you cannot place the guy right in the middle of the room, so he'll always look like he's a little too much to the left or to the right.

Granted it's not a big issue - but I would like to be able to make custom guys just for convenience.

I suppose you could always place the "guy" as a FFC with an inherent flag of 16-32 and have it turn into a blank combo when Link buys the item or something.

Sure.

I'm just saying - being able to just create a new guy, give it a tile and a cset and boom! you're done - is easier.

But I agree it's not a big deal.

Does it still crash if screen info is turned off?

Oddly, no it doesn't. The second screen info is off, all previous problem screens are fine.

Another thing: The FAQ states that the sword beam sound (amongst other sounds) is hard-coded and cannot be changed. Isn't this something that the quest creator can set now?

It's the number that's hard-coded - it always plays SFX #2.

How does the switching Link's Palette work? It seems at times switching the palettes don't work correctly.

Is it only after changing rings with cheats that it's off?

And finally, would there be a way to have ZC choose better colors when it changes due to a Transparent layer on Layer 6?

I can try fiddling with it a bit more, but I don't know how much I can really do there.

Would it be possible in a future version to be able to add more "guys"?

I really can't say. That might be either easy or very hard, depending on how they're coded. It's not immediately obvious. Safe to say it won't happen in 2.50, at least.

I also noticed that some of the flags in the wiki (Block Brang) are not available. Are these disabled/removed? I wanted to block projectiles through certain types of terrain to no avail.

There aren't any flags disabled. If there are any listed on the wiki that aren't there, the wiki is wrong.

@Saffith: What is the build number for -w5, and is there any matching update for ZQ as well, or just Zelds-w?

1578. No ZQuest update, currently.

Excellent. Can you tell me where it's been crashing? Which quests and screens? Not a full list, just one or two should do. I have an idea of what the problem is, but I need to see where it happens to make sure.
Edit: Actually, I might have found it. Try this: http://filesmelt.com/dl/zquest-m.tgz
If that doesn't fix it, I still need to know where it happens.

Yeah, I guess the main problem is through the Cheats actually. I made an adjustment with the strings and they work if I take a ring and give a ring each time it seems (original idea was to have it take a ring and have the revert to the lower level ring that is also in the inventory).

If I take away a Ring and don't give one back (where it should revert back to Link's standard palette), it doesn't reset and requires continuing to have it refresh to the proper palette. I doubt there's an easy way to fix that, so I can live with it.

So I guess it's primarily the Cheats way that is off, which is something more minor I hope.

Indeed, I use them as well, for simple item rooms and dialogue. The easiest way to have more would be to add this:

Guy-->Custom --->Dialogue Box (Select Sprite)

That permits the standard room functions, without the need for FFCs or combo removal scripts, with an unlimited selection of possible sprites for the people, which would make it faster to create basic quests with more variety.

This seems like it might be an easy thing to add to the program, as it would just call for a dialogue box where the user selects a combo, or selects from the sprite sheet, and then references that for the room instead of the 'hardcoded' guys, which are still sprite-sheet references AFAIK. If I'm horribly mistaken, my apologies.

Here is the promised shot of The Matrix invading Hyrule:

IPB Image

When this happens, there is no way to clear it: The screensaver locks to the ZC window and there is no way to access the menus, requiring a force-quit. This occurs even when the screensaver would not be active... While I was using Firefox with ZC paused int he background, when I returned to ZC I found that the Matrix had eaten it up in the background and was living in its window. The system was in use (actively) that entire time, so the screensaver should never have loaded; and yet, there it was.

I can't explain that one, aside that 'it's Windows'.

To anyone that has this still happen -- does it still freeze up if you disable the screensaver? (And are we talking about windows screensaver here or the ZC matrix, or both?)

Alright. Here's an updated ZC executable for the Matrix Screensaver fix.

http://filesmelt.com/dl/rc5_4.zip

Let me know if there is any problems with it still (or no problems with it). If so copy/paste the allegro log here or send me a PM.

Is this newer than the latest one Saffith uploaded (zelda-w5), or just different, with changes from both to be incorporated together later, and would you list for us its versioning number, please?

I expect you use a changes repository, but I don't know how to tack RC subversions for testing other than to keep asking that question, as it permits me to comment on any issues I find, relative to its internal version number.

How come this copy is so much smaller than the previous one (Saffith's MIDI patch drop fix)?
