Well, I just finished watching the new episode, and, despite

the lack of Twilight, which I found quite odd,

it was a really good episode. I like how it ended, I really didn't expect that until right before it happened. I mean, when

Rarity is standing with Sweetie Belle at the finishing line, right before it's revealed that it's Rarity and not Applejack, I was thinking "How is this gonna make Sweetie Belle realize tha-wait a minute. *pause* ...Holy s***, that's Rarity."

I liked the

appearance of Rarity's and Sweetie Belle's parents, too. I really wasn't expecting the Canadian accent, though. (That is a Canadian accent, right? Or am I getting confused with somewhere else?)

Although, I am really confused about something.

OK, it's obvious by now that Sweetie Belle doesn't live with Rarity. So, we can deduce that she must live with her parents, right? But, it would seem that their parents don't actually live in Ponyville, as they got a taxi when they were leaving Rarity's and Ponyville isn't really that big, whereas Sweetie Belle clearly does. After all, she goes to school there. But, if Sweetie Belle doesn't live with Rarity or her parents, where does she live? And why would her parents have showed up when Sweetie Belle was staying over at Rarity's for a week? Does she indeed live with her parents, and is Ponyville much bigger than we thought? And, if they call Sweetie Belle staying at Rarity's a "vacation", why don't they make a big deal out of it in The Stare Master? Unless that actually take places after this episode, but before Sweetie Belle goes back to her parents' house. Which would make sense, if it weren't for the fact that both of them seem to have not yet learned what they learned in this episode. Aaaahhhh, why is this so hard to work out.

EDIT:Haha, oh wow, I am a complete idiot. I completely misinterpreted that entire bit of the episode. Haha, ignore me, I'm just stupid.

That said, DAMN what a hilarious and awesome episode, damn not given what anyone says.

Also, oddly enough I think Granny Smith won the most points in this episode than any other character.

Meh. It was sub-par. There are plenty of episodes in season 1 that beat it.

I have to admit, the

twist at the end completely surprised me. It was genuinely clever.

Interestingly, I found myself empathizing with Sweetie Belle much more so than Rarity, even though I'm an older sibling with a younger sister who used to do the sort of annoying things Sweetie Belle did (and without the good intentions!). I also, like Rarity, wouldn't have wanted to take part in those filthy games at the end because oh god they were in the mud and the dirt and it was horrible and mud was all over them and wait what was I talking about

... I guess it's because I was always completely understanding and forgiving to my little sister. Couldn't really empathize with Rarity's reaction.

I sympathized more for. I probably sympathized for them around the same amount, just at different times. I sympathized for Rarity when she realized what a huge mistake she'd made, and for Sweetie Belle when she was trying help but kept messing up, although that was mainly because Rarity was kinda being a b**** about it. I mean, sure, she ruined your best, most expensive sweater, but go easy on her, she was just trying to help and she didn't know that would happen. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be angry about it, but at least try to be understanding instead of just yelling. Explain to her that she shouldn't do something if she hasn't been told to, in case it ends badly.

Well, you see, the thing is, the CMC will likely never get their cutie marks, at least not for a while anyway. The reason for this is that if they got their cutie marks, they wouldn't really be the CMC anymore and they would just fall into the obscurity of the minor characters. Well, OK, they would appear more often than most minor characters, but not as often as they do now.

Now, that's not to say it'd be impossible to have them get their cutie marks without their appearances becoming noticably scarcer. They could get them one at a time. That way, they could still be on the show as often as they are now without having it feel like they're stringing us along.

Another reason they haven't got their cutie marks yet is the fact that nothing has really happened to make them discover what their special talent is. (Except for Apple Bloom fixing up the treehouse, but that not giving her a cutie mark is a convenient plot device.) I mean, sure, nothing special has to actually happen for a cutie mark to appear, but it wouldn't really be good plot flow if in one episode, for example, Sweetie Belle was just singing to herself then, bam, cutie mark. That'd just be a boring episode. For the epiosde to be well-structured, there would have to be some sort of event, maybe a school concert or musical in which Sweetie Belle take part. Then after her performance, she'd take off her costume and notice her cutie mark. Who knows, maybe they could throw in something about her having to overcome her stage fright, they could probably make a friendship lesson out of that.

As for what their cutie marks would be, my guess is that Sweetie Belle would get a musical note, Scootaloo would get...something to do with choreography, and Apple Bloom would probably get a hammer or saw or something, seeing as how her special talent is evidently carpentry.

See, that sparks an interesting idea for me. What if this show kept on going for countless seasons, and they allowed the characters to grow up and move on, and once the CMC got their cutie marks, allowed them to take a more prominent role in the show?

That's something I'd very much like to see. I feel it would give the show an amazing level of depth and allow it to reach out even further than it already does.
