WHAT. I didn't realize until now that hurricanes can hit the UK!
Good for you that you're unaffected, but I feel bad for the others...
EDIT: I looked it up, and you are correct; it is Gonzalo.
Yeah, hurricanes can hit the UK, though I believe it's a rare occurance because throughout my entire life, I've never seen anything major happen to the UK like this, at least I don't think so lol.
The storm is not in hurricane status; it was just strong enough to contain a lot of the strength in its current storm status. Think of it more as really strong storm or remnants of the hurricane.
And I'm pretty sure that London was still affected by the storm. Most of Central Europe and the UK will be effected by 50 mph (80 kph) and lots of rain. I do hope that everyone in Europe is fine, though.
Yeah, I forgot to mention it's no longer a hurricane but I guess a "tropical storm", or like you said a hurricane remnant.
And yeah, London's actually affected, though the winds aren't too bad. However, one woman did die in Knightsbridge (Central London) because a tree fell on her from the wind, pretty sad indeed. Meanwhile, current wind speeds over here in London is somewhere from 25-37mph.
