My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

I actually rather enjoyed this scene, for example.
Also, there was a point right after this point in one of the episodes where her 'props' fall off, and she's talking to someone else. To pick them all up, she slams her face into the dirt (With surprising force! O_O' ) and they're all on her face again. I cracked up at that moment. I wish I could find it again.
.. and this, .. slightly. Really, only because it was something I actually found a clip of very conveniently, and because I have to get back to my intensive writing assignment right now.
It makes me wonder why people enjoyed Azumanga Daioh. Some of the humor feels similar to me. Many things that you wouldn't really expect unless you were looking for them. But who here is actually here to critique the show rather than watch and enjoy it? Just like it for what it is, rather than what it could be.

Mind you, I think of every show in terms of 'Azumanga, but with ___'

I love puns and metahumor, except the ones in My Little Pony are predictable. Now Sesame Street, there's a show with puns that are actually funny.
MLP does predictable right. You can always predict pieces, but rarely the whole thing. It's what makes it entertaining. And of course, some episodes are more predictable than others.
It's the details that make things funny. Stuff like Rarity beautifying tree branches instead of pruning them.

Not quite sure if this is considered advertising or not (hopefully not, since I'm trying to get them with a bigger posse), but I was browsing around Terraria's Forums again and it turns out someone recently replied in their ULTRA LARGE, HOLY CRAP-SIZED PONY THREAD! So if you feel there aren't enough bronies here, you can definitely take a stab and merging with theirs. Just a little help
I saw that ages ago. If anyone thinks it's odd that PZC's thread is about to reach 2000 replies, consider that theirs is at 2000 PAGES.

Speak for yourself. I've seen three episodes, and I've predicted exactly what's gonna happen after three minutes of each. As far as cartoons go, MLP is more predictable than most. The only thing that really isn't is some of the oddball humor (read: random objects falling out of the sky because of flying moving vans).

I would actually be gravely concerned if it lacked that oddball humor. It would be an entirely different show without it, and much closer to the show people are afraid of watching.
Also, isn't it amazing how some people really enjoy some Animes, but other people just can't see what they see about it? Why do you think that is? Same reasons here. That goes both ways, too, of course.

Which 3 episodes? I assume 1 and 2, and judging from the rest of your post, 15? If I am correct, well, 1 and 2 are kind of predictable, but they kinda have to be. As for 15, I disagree. I found the end of it quite unexpected. (To be honest, probably less expected than it should have been.) I thought that once they escaped, that would've been it, and Twilight would have realized "To hell with logic, she predicted a goddamn Hydra attacking, I'll just roll with it."
Actually, 1, 9, and 15 (At least, I think it's 9, whichever one had the Zebra). All of them are perfect examples of predictability. And all could have been made better with just a tiny little change. Like, what if Pinkie Pie just ate something that didn't agree with her, and the spazzes and stuff were side effects, and everything was pure coincidence? Not only would it have changed things up, it could have been funny. 9... well actually I don't think anything could save that one from being predictable. Unless she really was a witch, which probably would send the completely wrong message to the young children the show's aimed at.
No, you misunderstand. I like the oddball humor. It's pretty much the only part of the show I do like. The plot's boring and predictable, most of the characters are annoying, but at least it can be randomly funny.

Rarity, for example, is my least favorite character due to being somewhat haughty and prideful over her appearance. However, this is offset by her generosity. In one episode she offers to create dresses for all of her friends, and even remains very patient when the friends don't like the dresses. That redeemed her in my eyes, and I thought it was a lovely gesture from her. Balance was restored.
The plot is only a guide so that the contents of the show can have material to be walked through to see the characterization, the jokes, whatever moral lessons you choose to adapt and utilize, (Because why not.) and so on.
I personally enjoy following the voice and tone of Fluttershy. Every time she speaks, I get to see what interesting and potentially enlightened thing she's going to say. She has a habit of noticing things that others don't, and knowing when to keep her mouth shut and listen. The Manticore thing, for example.

When you go to watch episode 19, I request that you look for a difference in your own actions as you enjoy Spike's moments, rather than looking for everything you're going to hate about it. If I wanted to be critical, there's a bunch of s*** I could b**** about. But I don't, because there's other stuff about this show that I love.
It's all about the mentality, and I can tell, yours is focused on finding things to criticize, rather than finding things to enjoy.

You're deliberately nitpicking at something you dislike about it, just because I get the feeling you really don't want to like the series. Whereas if you were sincerely trying to give it a chance you would focus on enjoying it rather than focusing on critiquing it.
No, not at all. I went into the series wanting to like it. I love cartoons; they're amazing. But MLP really does seem lower quality than some of the others I watch. Mainly just the characters. I like Spike, Twilight Sparkle's alright (if not a little boring), and Fluttershy's fine, more or less, but the others really get on my nerves. Pinkie Pie... in all honesty makes me want to shoot her. Rarity's a b**** who's too obsessed with looks. Applejack has a horrid fake accent, and Rainbow Dash, I dunno why, but she just annoys me.
And maybe I am being a bit nitpicky about the predicability, but I feel it's too predictable. Let me use another cartoon for example. Phineas and Ferb. It follows a pattern almost every time: Phineas and Ferb make something cool, Candace tries to bust them, Perry puts a stop to one of Doofenshmirtz's evil schemes, and somehow that causes Phineas and Ferb's creation to disappear right before she can show her mom. It's a predictable pattern. BUT, the way the pattern plays out always manages to catch you off guard. For example, they build a giant building. You think "Okay, how is this gonna disappear?" Building becomes so big, it gets stuck in the moon. Perry and Doofenshmirt'z fight causes the entire moon to rotate, making the building rotate to the dark side of the moon, swinging right over Mom's head. You knew how it would end (with the building being gone cuz of Perry and Doof), but you didn't know how it would happen.
It's stuff like that that MLP lacks. For instance, episode 15. It's obvious that at the end, Twilight's gonna figure out that some things can't be explain and Pinkie Pie really is predicting everything. BUT, it's obvious how it's gonna happen. Bunch of really minor stuff leaving her the brunt of slapstick jokes, followed by her predicting some disaster that barely saves the life of another character. That's what I predicted, and it played out just like that. It could have been so much better if they'd spun it in a different direction, but they didn't, and the show suffered because of it.
... did I really just go that in depth comparing two cartoons? What is wrong with me?

And whether or not the show is good is ultimately up to the person watching it. While it might not be the most intelligent humor either, it's definitely a clever show when it wants to be, and I'll appreciate that. Then again, show me something on TV that's actually intelligent and still good.
