That's why he's in there:

R.O.B. makes perfect sense...in Nintendo's mind. SSB is not JUST a fighting game, Nintendo also treats it as a celebration of their history. In doing this they grab people from all over their history (think Mr. Game & Watch, that covered a HUGE part of their history.) They want a nostalgic feeling within the game, that is why he's in. I don't agree with the character choice, but it makes sense.

So! To make a final tally, here are the Melee characters that didn't make it into Brawl:

...Did I miss anybody? Anyway, it seems that the only non-clone character that got cut was Mewtwo. Sorry, Mew fans.

I am hoping the all the old clone characters that made it in have become non-clonish. I'm talking to you, Ganondorf.

Today's update is a couple anouncements.

First, a notice saying the Dojo's gonna start revealing hidden characters, stages, etc. Not like we don't already know almost everything...

Also, a video showing all of the modes they've announced so far. Actual clips of the modes, not just menus here.

Geez, Lucario keeps getting more and more badass. A counter, a strong side attack, a projectile, a super-fast recovery move, and an aimable Final Smash.

Very cool. Small area of effect and pretty focused, but distance-sensitive and very likely to hit.

And best of all, significantly different from Ike's.

So, Ness was the first post-release character update? I guess they wanted something a little less obvious than Luigi. Seems they're saving him for a crap update! (not that there aren't plenty of Luigi fans out there)

Here's how I figured out how to unlock everything on Melee:

1. Take memory card to friend's house.
2. Load up friend's save data.
3. Switch memory cards and save.
