My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

My Little Pony is good because its humor is intelligent, and despite its target audience, it has expanded to be entertaining to many more people. So what if it's a fad?
Ventus: It's one thing to grow out of a show because the humor is no longer funny, but for some reason, I feel like your reasons for not liking the show anymore are a bit forced. Nothing is stopping you from continuing to watch the show in secret.
I don't get how the Gargoyle pic is disturbing...
I recently found out that one of my old friends has been secretly watching the show since about March. That made me feel better about myself. I still have only told 2 IRL friends about it. I'm just taking it slow.

And also, you asked what it represents? You'll find your answer in bold in the above quote. It represents being open-minded enough to disregard everything you've been brought up to believe about this rather notorious franchise, or for that matter anything notorious, and look at it from the perspective of someone who desperately wants a reason not to loathe it.
Also, your claim about it's popularity doesn't really hold up, since most of the people I know who watch this show don't go online at all.
I love the show, and I love what it stands for.
That doesn't mean you can't like it if you're a guy, heck, even I liked the Powerpuff Girls back in the day, but I'm not going to lie to myself and say that it wasn't aimed at girls

There's too much drama, though. Girly, not girly, does it really matter? What you like is what you like.

You can't really deny that it's aimed at young females. A quick glance at its visuals prove that it is indeed their target audience. Saying that it isn't simply because other people like it too is not a valid argument. If it wasn't aimed at young females, the show wouldn't be about pink ponies with a cast that's mostly female.

Nobody's in denial about the fact that it's for girls, but the entire point of the thesis statement Lauren Faust wrote for this show was that just because it's for girls doesn't mean it has to suck.
Also (on a tangent) I never knew a single girl who watched The Powerpuff Girls. I only ever heard guys talking about it. PPG is also a completely different scenario since it was never actually meant to appeal to girls. Well, maybe slightly. But I think Craig McCracken knew back in 1992 when he did the initial pilot episode that it would be a bigger hit among guys.
I'm just saying; I like My Little Pony BECAUSE it's got girly elements to it. But it's not the mind-numbing type of girly that was prevalent in the late 90s and early 2000's with all the giggling and tea parties and BS. It takes the concept of "a show for girls" in a whole new direction and adds all the elements necessary to make it just as valid as any other cartoon out there. One of those elements is that it can appeal to parents - and to quote Lauren Faust, this means male parents as well - so it stands to reason that older male fans of entertainment without kids should be able to appreciate the show as well.
Also, the part in bold amused me, since there's only one pink pony out of the entirety of the confirmed cast (the confirmed cast of characters consists of about 35 character designs). Lauren Faust made sure of that. She wanted to discard the common idea of a cartoon for girls, and the first step in that process was putting a serious cap on how much pink they could use. In this series, teal and purple are infinitely more prevalent than pink.
This may seem like nitpicking, but when making a serious statement I ask you to choose your words carefully. Details matter greatly. In this particular situation, you put a ton of weight on your preconceived notion that there were immense amounts of pink. I shot that down, and now what are you left with? Just the phrase "it's aimed towards young girls" to which I facetiously respond "brilliant deduction, Holmes".

Then might I suggest finding a thread you actually enjoy? I hate to interrupt what could have been a very intelligible and productive string of posts from you here, but contrary to popular belief there is already a conversation going on.
I'll hold my tongue at this moment in the hopes of showing more tact than I have in the past.
Anyway, my post was just a joke with the word "digress" in it, but if you wanna read too far into it that's fine too.
Now, a real question, what made you guys start watching MLP in the first place?
Edit: Ironfist, I DIGRESS that I love your post.

Just so you know Robin, the show isn't required for girls at least it didn't say that, so there I guess.

It literally does not have a shred of intelligent humor.

This is intelligent humor

This is not
I hate to break it to you, but Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy isn't terribly intelligent. It's pretty much what happens when a Brit who knows a lot about space gets drunk and writes a book. Douglas Adams himself admitted to this fact. So really, it's drunk humor from a smart guy. (Not to say it isn't hilarious) Note that this doesn't apply to Doctor Who.
Now Demetri Martin- intelligent humor. The guy doesn't need to swear up a storm or get wasted to tell good jokes. He just tells excellent one liners in a deadpan tone. The jokes are funny because they are actually funny, not because of who is telling them.
Okay, well maybe intelligent humor isn't quite the right term. But there are amazing puns and references to plenty of things that no 10-year-old girl would understand. (And yet not a single double-entendre. That's quality family-friendly humor.)
Clearly you don't like puns and metahumor. Most of the time when I laugh while watching My Little Pony, it's because there was a solid pun or because of the sheer humor of the situations themselves. (Thinking to myself, Yup. That would totally happen... lol

I love puns and metahumor, except the ones in My Little Pony are predictable. Now Sesame Street, there's a show with puns that are actually funny.
