Those were the supposed leaked starter designs from a while ago, seen here. I'm actually really excited to see them confirmed by the leaks, because that Rowlet final form was super badass and I was going to be disappointed if it was different at all. Fortunately, it's real! So I'm excited.

So it appears that the Sun and Moon demo has been datamined. The dataminers didn't get nearly as much info as what they did get out of ORAS, but Gamefreak forgot to remove the models of the shiny pokemon not in the demo as well as apparently their preview icons and they got a lot of crucial information on the pokemon designs. This confirms several of the well-known leaks including that of the final starter evolution. I am pleasantly surprised at all of the starter designs and I remain hopeful on Litten's final evo's secondary typing not being Fire/Fighting.

SPOILERS, thoughts regarding the starters

Way back, when the starters were initially revealed, the official Japanese Pokemon website briefly listed the secondary types of the starters' final evolutions before they were taken down. These secondary typings were Flying, Ground and Fighting.

 

Because Rowlett is obviously going to remain Grass/Flying and unless Gamefreak changed the typings of Litten's and Poppilo's final evolutions as the result of the leak, we can deduce the following:

Litten's final form will have either Ground or Fighting and Poppilo's final form will have the other of the two types.

Given the design of Poppilo's final form, it is highly unlikely that it will be Water/Ground. Thus, it is highly likely that it will be Water/Fighting.

If that assumption is correct, then Litten's final evolution will not be Fire/Fighting and will be something else. Because the other type listed was Ground and that Litten is inspired by witchcraft and alchemy (namely Sulfur), it is likely that Litten's final evolution will be Fire/Ground.

 

If you think Litten's final form doesn't look like a Fire/Ground type, then I submit the following:

 

If you just had these images to go with, what types would you assume these pokemon to be?

 

Well, regardless of whatever type you assume these pokemon to be; they are confirmed to be pure Rock type. Would you have guessed that from the pictures alone?

 

That said, I am very unimpressed about the Alolan forms; which confirms some of the not-so-good rumors.

Kanto Pokemon Only?!?! This is beyond dumb. Okay, I get that the first generation is the original and most popular, but why hype the Alolan forms up as being a feature of many non Alolan Pokemon that inhabit the region and then completely ignore the non-Kanto when deciding who would get the forms? There are many later pokemon who could have done with Alolan forms, like the Burmy line and the Elemental Monkies, and yet they as a whole were completely ignored because they weren't of this so highly precious and highly regarded Gen I.

 

I guess that's one feature that was actually worth getting hyped over going down the drain. Let's hope the others don't follow suit.

I've heard a lot of recent leaks that contradict those old ones, particularly that Litten becomes Fire/Dark. Additionally, those types on the website were never explicitly stated to be for the starters, they were just type icons in the site's coding that weren't used anywhere.

I played the demo. It's... not a whole lot to go on for the full game, but I can at least say I really like the map and battlefield designs. Surprised there's no longer any 3D in battles... and yet there's still framerate lag. Assorted other thoughts, not really sure if they count as spoilers but hiding them anyway:

- I hope not all the "Trials" are simplistic as that, and stopping to point out every position there is for Pokemon to photograph. I hope they're not all photograph trials either. That was kind of basic.

- I like the Totem Pokemon mechanic. My only hope is that you're not gonna be overleveled for them and I'm assuming that's just a demo quirk.

- I kind of like how it shows you what moves are and aren't effective against certain Pokemon, and it seems to only take effect after the first time you fight them. It's handy.

- what in the world are Team Skull's animations

And the fire starter ends bipedal. I was hoping the leaks a few months ago were not true, but yep, fire starter ends bipedal. And the fire starter from Gen 7 is now my least favourite fire starter so far. Congratulations Charizard, you got bumped up a spot.

 

 

More Kanto pandering. All Alolan pokemon revealed and datamined are from Kanto mons. Because we didn't had enough Kanto shoved down your throats in Gen 6. I don't give a rats ass if Gen 1 is the more popular gen and if this year is the anniversary of the franchise, i'm sick and fucking tired of Kanto being shoved down our throats.

 

I don't like the designs of Gen 7 very much. There's maybe a total of 10 pokemon lines that i actually like. I actually love the Water/Bug evolution, it looks awesome. But the rest range from okay to bleh.

 

 

I'm hoping that there are more pokemon in the final version and these are not just it. But if it is, i'm honestly considering skipping this gen.

Of course there are going to be more, Game Freak scrubbed most of the demo to avoid datamining. The mons that were datamined were a small selection that they missed.

I hope that's the case. It's not like i think they are all bad, there are some pretty good ones. The wolf, electric bug, the pseudo legendary dragon, the fire/poison salamander, Lurantis, the fighting crab and specially the Water/Bug evolution (this is my favourite) look pretty cool. I'm just overall somewhat dissapointed with the designs.

 

 

About the starters, i actually really like the grass starter. Final stage looks pretty cool.

Just played through the demo. Wasn't going to, but then I heard it gives you some exclusives so... yeah.

 

Initially I like the tropical theme vibe, reminds me of Super Mario Sunshine, which I like a lot, but ultimately it might end up being an overdose of ukelele and such. We'll see.
