Just finished my playthrough of the game. 321 deaths. Yloh, your playthrough was certainly very helpful to watch in figuring out what to do in level 7.
I may write a review later in another thread.
I now expect you to 3 heart all my quests, Evan. Seriously, good going! Can't wait to see you tackle Jimmies with only 48 HP.

Thanks Evan20000!
In my opinion, level 7 is the most frustrating level in this game.

I rated your quest and left a review, but here's the short of it:
Good:
* Everything was well thought out. Sometimes even too well thought out... Many interesting challenges and battles.
* Not too many layers cluttering up the screens, and all the screen combos were easily identifiable and not distracting or out of place.
* Great mix of enemies and use of tactics to beat them. There were some grand epic battles against enemies that are cakewalk in other quests, which can be very much appreciated.
* There were a great many screens which were very difficult for me, which is saying a lot. If only other quest makers had your level of detail using enemies and items together...
* Very detailed and clever design overall which is rarely seen from a first-time quest maker.
Bad:
* Strange difficulty curve: Level 1 was the most brutal by far.
* I felt the dungeon shops after a while were a very annoying and time consuming endeavor, especially when you have to push the blocks to get a discount. I found myself just grabbing the expensive item in some places so I wouldn't have to deal with it and could get back to another room faster. Having to enter and buy single hearts over and over is just stupid: Create a 3 and 5-heart item and sell those too.
* I also felt like the blue ring was "forced out" of this quest. What I mean by that is everything was accumulating to this point where it keeps accelerating forward, but what happened was it introduced many more bubbles and long room sequences instead. I think if you hadn't decided not to use it beforehand you would have been able to utilize it for some other interesting challenges as well.
* Restarts are a killer. So much frustration and time lost to this. Things like level-specific keys could really have helped here by unlocking shortcuts, creating "checkpoint" paths or rooms, and just helping out the player after they completed large portions of the dungeons. The game flow really suffered in a bad way here.
All in all it was a very good challenge with many ideas and hopelessly aggravating at the same time. I think if you were able to "un-zoom" the camera a few clicks and look at the whole picture instead of it pixel-pixel you could create not only a hard but more enjoyable game as well. If I were to play it again I would definitely pick up a cheat item, or perhaps a blue ring (I can do that
Cheers.

Oh this is a thing.
Looking back in my file, I'm still up to Level 8 with roughly 287 deaths.
Do I dare touching this brutal quest? Possibly in the future.

LV 1 is probably the main reason why everyone runs off to the cheat shop right away. I hate it so much... Once in a lifetime is enough for me.I believe strange difficulty is fatal to challenging quests, so if I rate this quest and AQ series, can't give high rating by it. But I think both of Lv1 wasn't even challenging, Lv2 was the most brutal.
Also, did James24 actually leave the forums for good? That was a while ago and I don't remember it too well.
[edit] Yep. He sure did. Bummer.

While I did finish it, the rupee grinding dungeons were incredibly tedious and almost made me quit at a number of points.
I agree with you on most of your points though, namely the difficulty curve and the tedium of heart purchasing.
