... holy... s***... That was the best thing I ever saw. Okay no the Chemical Plant one was. But really, this looks incredible. I can't wait; kinda interesting that there's no Super Sonic for Perfect Chaos but I bet it'll still be fun. Egg Dragoon fight looked really interesting. And the Time Eater... wow. That's gonna be something epic. SO GLAD IT'S ONLY A COUPLE WEEKS AWAY.

I think it's more surprising that they could make Crisis City look good, as Planet Wisp always looked good to me.
Crisis City was always good, it just had the same issues that plagued the entire game. Like faulty controls. Planet Wisp was good in parts, but not overall; the main thing I didn't like about it was that there are much better levels that could have been used, but they made Planet Wisp look epic in the trailers so I was satisfied.

Eh, Planet Wisp had a few good spots, but was garbage for the most part. Crisis City, on the other hand, was easily the best level in '06.
But on the subject of the boss trailer... wow. Aside from confirming the leaked image of Time Eater from a while ago, it all looks amazingly epic. Especially the Egg Dragoon. I want this now, so badly. All the bosses look so awesome...

I also find it kind of odd that Perfect Choas is fought as normal Sonic, as opposed to Super Sonic. I mean, it makes sense from a design point of view, there's no reason to let the player play as Super Sonic for a normal boss, but I guess it's just me getting bugged by contuinity errors again.
The chaos emeralds are collectible, and are rumored to allow Sonic to go super in any stage, so having him fight Perfect Chaos as Super Sonic would make no sense, story wise. Plus, since he can run on water if he boosts in Unleashed, it makes sense.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I skimmed a vid where they showed the Death Egg Robot fight in Generations, and the strategy looks neat, and fresh, so all worries ceased there. The best part is? The music is an orchestrated remix of the original! If anyone wants to hear it, here's a low-quality rip I got; couldn't find it in better quality: http://www.mediafire...3l39l5hlq40lfc2
Could explain the lack of consistent details regarding the 3DS version. Well, there go my plans to ask for it for Christmas instead of wasting my own money on something that doesn't look that good.
Well, the release date's been all over the place. I've seen different dates in December, but this is currently the Sonic wiki's list of release dates for the 3DS version:

3DS:

GameStop's website still says December 31st like it has for a while now. So... I dunno. A delay would suck, but, eh.
Oh yeah, new update: A new Sonic Generations demo is being released on the 19th for Xbox Live and the 25th for PSN. ... I don't get it either, but there it is. Both demos get released on the 18th in Europe; not sure about other continents.
This time, it's Modern Sonic's Green Hill Zone. Also, I've heard other sources say it has Classic Sonic as well. So we'll see soon; yay for new demo. This time, however, I will not be denied; I'll create a new Live account just to get the free month of Gold so I can download it, if it requires you to have Gold this time. Just cuz I'm cheap that way. Even though the game's out in a couple of weeks.
Oh hey, new demo, I can't wa-*demo not on Steam* DAMN YOU SEGA. I can't be bothered plugging in my PS3, connecting it to the Internet and downloading a demo for a game I won't be getting the PS3 version of anyway. Why must you punish the lazy, Sega?
I was mistaken; the demo was released for Xbox today in North America as well. So I did the cheating method, made a new account to get the free Gold month, downloaded the demo, and it works on any account and offline so I'm good!
I've played both stages at least three times already. I'm impressed. The classic stage didn't exactly perfectly replicate Genesis gameplay, but close enough and I won't nitpick. Because it works and felt pretty natural. It was a neat, fun stage, and the sheer number of alternate paths through the level made me happy. One thing I did notice: There was a severe lack of ways to die. This gets fixed in later levels, I know this for sure, but I don't recall seeing any bottomless pits. Maybe I'm just taking the wrong paths. But, there are pits and other ways to die in later levels besides spikes and enemies, so small complaint there.
Now, modern. Let me go find a post or two in this thread...

Anywho, hopefully, since it's on the PS3/Xbox, the controls will be Unleashed-style, and let you use drift and quick-step all the time and not in stupid certain sections like in Colors. And I wonder if they'll tweak it so that the behind-the-back running portions don't have such sloppy and skiddy controls that force you to use quick-step in order to move properly; I liked Unleashed, but that was my one complaint. And that boost goes back to collecting rings; collecting white Wisps was stupid. Those are my only real hopes, and I'll probably be fine anyway if they don't come true, but that's just me.
QUOTE(The Satellite @ May 8 2011, 11:20 PM)
I can't confirm drift, but quick-step seems to be a full-time move again, judging by a video I saw that had the last part of the modern-style Green Hill Zone. This video, to be exact. I can't confirm the "less skiddy" controls either, but from what I've seen in some parts, it looked better. And the gameplay videos confirm that boost meter is linked to rings again. So yay, almost all my hopes came true, depending on the ones I'm unsure about.
Playing the Modern Sonic level, almost all of these came true, which makes me happy. The one thing I couldn't confirm was drift. Maybe they changed the button, but I couldn't make Sonic drift (even though I only tried like twice). Actually wait let me look again. ... ah, there we go. See, the controls were modified a bit, and I'll get to those in a moment. But... yeah, everything I asked for came true! I iz happeh.
Anyways, the level itself is solid. It plays very well, with a good blend of 3D segments and 2D platforming; the mix is about as solid as Unleashed 360 was. And like the classic stage, there are a ton of alternate paths through the level. But also like the classic stages, the ways to die are somewhat minimal. Again, minor complaint; the later levels have more ways to die.
Anywho, I'm gonna break down the controls from Unleashed and Colors, then reveal how they were changed in Generations. I'll put them in spoilers, though, just in case:
lolcontrols
Unleashed: Jump - A (360), X (PS3) Boost, homing attack - X (360), Square (PS3) Drift, stomp, slide - B (360), Circle (PS3) Light dash - Y (360), Triangle (PS3) Quick-step/change rail - LB/RB (360), L1/R1 (PS3)
Colors (Wii remote controls): Jump - A Homing attack - A in midair Boost - B Drift - B (only in certain sections) Stomp, slide - Z Change rail - Tap left or right on control stick Quick-step - Tap left or right on control stick (only in certain areas)
Generations: Jump - A (360), X (PS3) Homing attack - A (360), X (PS3; both in midair) Boost - X (360), Square (PS3) Stomp, slide - B (360), Circle (PS3) Quick-step - LB/RB (360), L1/R1 (PS3) Change rail - Tap left or right on control stick Drift - LT/RT + Control stick (360), L2/R2 + Control stick (PS3)
So, it seems to be a blend of the two controls, with some changes. Takes some slight getting used to, but feels pretty good in the end result. Also, Sonic does control and turn much more tightly than in either Unleashed and Colors (where he was even looser), so that's a big plus. It's not as tight as any of the other 3D Sonic games, but it's definitely an improvement.
So yeah, very impressed with this demo, and I have good faith in this game as a whole. Bring on November 1st already! I'm ready for this game!
God you probable wouldn't believe this But I went to get this game on reserve at my local gamestop And they said "Sorry but but all 150 reserves slots are full"
I was Like Wtf!? How is that possible?? But now i have to wait to get the game Now... Man thats Insane How does 150 people O_O already have this game reserved That fast! Oh well I have to wait i guess .
Maybe you live in an area heavily condensed with Sonic fans.
Well, that's tough luck. Are there any other GameStops in your area that might still have slots open? Then again, I'm spoiled; there are two GameStops at equal distance to my house that I could go to if I wanted.
Green Hill looks better. Still pretty empty, but better. Mushroom Hill... same thing I guess. But the fact that the classic ones are exports of the original stages is still a turnoff. The bright side is: NO HOMING ATTACK FOR CLASSIC SONIC HELL YES. ... ahem. Well, assuming it's still out before Christmas, I'll ask for the game for Christmas, otherwise, I still don't feel comfortable spending my own money on it.

Yeah I guess I live in a heavily condensed area with Sonic fans.
And yeah only have one gamestop in my area where i live.. But funny thing is they called me back and told me
"You could reserve the 3ds one We have a bunch of slots open on that. and it plays the same as the xbox360 version"
I was like No way I'll just wait for when they get more copys of the xbox360 versions But i have high hopes I'll be getting this sometime after it comes out. I'm sure The walmart down the street from said gamestop will have it.
... ugh, that guy needs to be fired. They don't play alike; well, maybe the Classic Sonics do, but the 3DS Classic levels are exports and the 3DS Modern Sonic levels are almost entirely 2D with the rare 3D segment and minor camera angle changes at times. Plus, the 3DS Classic levels lack the subtle nuances of the console ones simply because they're direct ports and therefore the stage doesn't turn and stuff like in the console versions (a really neat feature, I must say).
So... yeah, he should be fired. And yeah, you'll probably be able to find plenty of copies of the games in other stores when it's out; perhaps if all the reserve spots are filled up, that means there'll be plenty left on shelves from non-reserved folks? Either way, good luck on its release!
@TS: Yeah That guy needs to be fired Really! And Lucky me walmart says they will have plenty of copies Woohoo So i'll be able to get when it comes out I have high hopes
So, Sonic Generations is now pre-purchasable on Steam. As it turns out, the pre-order bonus is just Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic 3D Blast, and not all Sonic games on Steam so far, as it was first thought.
EDIT:Ok, I'm kind of confused now. I just bought it, and along with it, I got SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics 3. Which does not appear to contain either of the promised bonus titles. It has Sonic 1, though, but I'm still rather confused.
EDIT2:OK, now I see. It comes with SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics 3, but that's not what it is at all. It appears to be a version of SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics 3 that only has Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. So, a bit confusing, but the pre-order bonus is definitely S3DB and S3&K.
