Today made me feel happy I'm working as a cart pusher (or in their terms, a "Customer Courtesy Associate"). I was on my last half hour when some woman began to get angry at the cashier, an elderly woman. They were arguing and eventually the cashier left for the manager, only to piss the customer off more because she only ran to him because of "having a guilty conscience." The customer continued to complain and threaten to never shop at Weis Markets again. Eventually, our store manager, the customer and the cashier spoke. End result? Irate customer huffing away. She wasn't mean to me though, since I was carrying a 35 pound bag of cat litter for her. In trying to be as professional as possible, I apologized for her disappointment with the store and wished her a good afternoon. The cashier left for the day, complaining about that fiasco to the girl at the courtesy desk.
All in all, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that shit first hand because there is no way I could just keep it in all day; my temper is too short for that. NOBODY would be calling me things like an MF or asshole without getting a full-on verbal assault in retaliation. I'm sorry, but just because I make minimum wage doesn't mean I should have to put up with maximum bullshit. In all honesty, that's all most of us make; minimum wage. A few of us may survive long enough to see a raise or promotion. The rest rage quit or in the case of one of our useless as hell Customer Service associates, are fired for two weeks of not showing up at all. It's very rare anyone is actually fired, since Weis is pretty much desperate for "warm bodies" to fill jobs yet instead of actually hiring new people, they burden the current employees.
I pose a question to anyone employed; is this common in the workplace? Is it normal for a job to be one giant soap opera full of drama, stress, alliances and backstabbing?
