Today made me feel happy I'm working as a cart pusher (or in their terms, a "Customer Courtesy Associate"). I was on my last half hour when some woman began to get angry at the cashier, an elderly woman. They were arguing and eventually the cashier left for the manager, only to piss the customer off more because she only ran to him because of "having a guilty conscience." The customer continued to complain and threaten to never shop at Weis Markets again. Eventually, our store manager, the customer and the cashier spoke. End result? Irate customer huffing away. She wasn't mean to me though, since I was carrying a 35 pound bag of cat litter for her. In trying to be as professional as possible, I apologized for her disappointment with the store and wished her a good afternoon. The cashier left for the day, complaining about that fiasco to the girl at the courtesy desk.

All in all, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that shit first hand because there is no way I could just keep it in all day; my temper is too short for that. NOBODY would be calling me things like an MF or asshole without getting a full-on verbal assault in retaliation. I'm sorry, but just because I make minimum wage doesn't mean I should have to put up with maximum bullshit. In all honesty, that's all most of us make; minimum wage. A few of us may survive long enough to see a raise or promotion. The rest rage quit or in the case of one of our useless as hell Customer Service associates, are fired for two weeks of not showing up at all. It's very rare anyone is actually fired, since Weis is pretty much desperate for "warm bodies" to fill jobs yet instead of actually hiring new people, they burden the current employees.

I pose a question to anyone employed; is this common in the workplace? Is it normal for a job to be one giant soap opera full of drama, stress, alliances and backstabbing?

I just winged an entire 5 paragraph essay in 15 minutes, and I don't recall making a single mistake.

Good thing or bad thing?

Also, I'm really fuggin hyped up on Mountain Dew.

Definitely not a good thing, right there, I need my sleep.

Speaking of sleep, goodnight all as of making this post, this is more than likely as hyper as you'll ever see me during the night.

God I love homework that's actually fun to do.

What about you guys?

I love writing essays. If it's anything else, such as ten paged math sheet, I don't really enjoy it.

Essays are kind long and annoying for me... as long as I love that specific topic.

Essays over here are now known as "controlled assessments" or simply "CA" in Secondary school, though they're all basically the same thing :P I did quite a few of those last year, and they weren't too hard honestly. The most I've ever written was about 2,800 words and that was in an English class, writing about one specific topic. I usually come out with pretty good grades (A/A* at best, which in English class that's equivalent to a 'Band 5').

I got loads more coming this year, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be doing a LOT more in college or university.

This was basically my sophomore year of high school in a nutshell.

Whoo. Apparently my new license plates are ready. Hopefully they don't say "GAY 1337" or "ANUSTART" or something stupid like that.

If it has the digits "744" in it though I will literally die of irony.

Fucking dodgy idiots, the doctors told my dad they needed to test his heart pump by injecting stuff into his heart. and after signing the forms, on the last one, they said they aren't responsible if he dies or goes into a fit; it's his own fault for agreeing. So my dad said over the phone he left the building and is going home. This was just a test to see if anything is wrong, so it's a 50% chance he is alright to begin with. So imagine him getting his heart damaged just from the test, and then we'd have to pay for the damages they done and not them.

Fucking dodgy. I can't get over how stupid professional help can get.

Edit: Reminds me the time the doctors didn't give my brother pain killers when he lost his eye due to a freak accident but instead, put a cup over his eye and told him not to blink as they flew him to another hospital. ._.

So... you realize there's a reason for this, yes? If there was something wrong and they didn't do the test, he could die just like that. So if they had reason to suspect anything was wrong, they'd want to test his heart. The chance of random death as a result of the test is very, very low, but of course they're going to want to claim it's not their fault, because, well, it isn't. It's a random thing that happened that's beyond their control as they were pursuing the best treatment for him. They're running a cost/benefit analysis and doing the thing that's best/most likely to keep him alive. I'd hardly call that stupid.

Shane: I agree with Russ. This isn't doctors trying to cheat people or something; it's just standard procedural stuff that comes with sensitive work like this. I hope your dad gives it some thought and returns to complete the test, as it sounds like it's the best thing to make sure he stays healthy.

So after 3 1/2 years of working at the same place, I'm finally quitting.  The place is just a sinking ship, with a manager who only has a job because of nepotism from the area manager, who likes to think he's a badass dictator drill sergeant or something.  He thought highly of me, actually, but he really just pissed me (and others) off, and after getting into a situation where I'd get yelled at by either the general manager or area manager the other day, I knew I had to stop stressing myself out over the job and start moving toward something I want to do.  Two other people have put in their two weeks notice this month, and yesterday, someone just quit outright.  He has to realize he's doing something wrong, or the place is just gonna crash and burn soon.

Here was my original notice's draft, which I didn't end up using and instead decided to be a boring, mature adult and write something more professional:

For whom it may concern,
Unfortunately, I am terminating my employment here,
Choosing to focus on school, rather than work.
Knowing this, you'd better start hiring more people.

You should know that I mostly enjoyed working,
On September 28th though, I leave it all behind,
Until then, though, I'll still do my best around here.

^That is so awesome. I love how each line starts with a letter of your true feelings.

Well, I recently had to train a new guy to do parcel, which is easy as hell. So I spent last Sunday and Wednesday training him, and what happens when he's on his own last night? He screws up. I'm telling you, I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of morons at work. You have your lazy people that just show up for their checks and the hard workers that get lumped in with the half-assed bums that can't follow simple directions. It's really a shame when you have 18-24 year olds that can't even do stocking correctly. Really, is putting new stuff behind the older items THAT hard?

Shame of it is, a lot of employers anymore don't care about you. You're just a number to them. A tool for making THEM money. Not sure what you guys do, but at least at my job, it's a revolving door job. Hell, by the time I get to know someone, they quit. The only reason at this point I'm toughing out my job is because I'm banking on the faint glimmer of hope that I'll eventually get rewarded for my hard work and effort. Oh Adam, you have been wearing your rose-tinted glasses too long.

So uh, after work, I went to hang out with a friend and ended up spending about $500 to him.  Y'see, he was selling some things, and well, here's all what I got...

~~~
NES, 4 controllers, SMB/DuckHunt, SMB/DuckHunt/Track, Rocket Ranger, Wolverine, Blaster Master, StarTropics 1 & 2, SMB2, SMB3, Zelda (gray cart, strangely enough), Wood & Water Rage, Jurassic Park, Cobra Command, ExciteBike, Tetris 2, Yoshi's Cookie, Batman
SNES, 2 Superpad Controllers, Mario Paint Mouse, Mario Paint, Super Mario World, ALttP, Frogger, NFL Quarterback Club 96, F-Zero, Arcade's Greatest Hits, Bonkers, WWF Super Wrestlemania, The Jungle Book, Beavis and Butt-head, Star Fox, Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run, The Lion King, Tiny Toons Buster Busts Loose, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, Mario's Early Years Fun With Numbers, Final Fight, Toy Story, Mega Man X, Battletoads & Double Dragon, Aaahh Real Monsters,  Taz-Mania, Ren and Stimpy's Time Warp, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Stunt Race FX, Mickey Mania, Super Street Fighter II, The Terminator, Paperboy 2, Donkey Kong Country, Mortal Kombat II
Pink Transparent GBC, Indigo GBA, Platinum GBA SP, Pokemon Yellow, Link's Awakening DX, Oracle of Seasons, Centipede, Mario Tennis
N64 (with expansion pack), 3 Gray Controllers, 2 Rumble Packs, Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Wave Race 64, Star Soldier, Gex 64, Quest 64, Rayman 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Mayhem, Nascar 96, WCW World Tour, Tarzan, Knockout Kings 2000, Blues Brothers 2000, Rampage World Tour, Pokemon Snap, Lego Racers
~~~

So yeah, having fun organizing all that.  Even among some of the uh, very less than stellar games among all that, I definitely got a hell of a discount on all of this (we ran a lot of numbers and averages and whatnot, should've been a few hundred dollars more).  Of course, the million dollar question really is... What the hell do I even start with?
