Great looking maps, Anthus. The leaves in the caves remind me of a bear cave or something.

Thanks. I was inspired by some of the ground details in the old Sabatage Dragoon demo, so those geometric looking leaves are not an original concept of mine (then again, what is in ZC? icon_razz.gif), but I love the design for some reason.

I just wanted to say, make sure you back up your quests often! I lost a few screens/ detailing on this next map I'm going to post cause ZQ wanted some dinner or something. icon_shrug.gif

Area around Link's home in this quest. It probably goes without saying, but this is not done yet. I'm just posting it more or less to show the tiles.

About the mountain tiles; they are from AlttP obviously, but this particular version was taken from that awkward Chinese pirated version of Link to the Past for the NES [video]. I know they are poorly colored and generally hideous, but there is something about them I like. I like the rugged simplicity of them, I guess. I actually think this is a pretty decent attmpt at 'importing' and SNE game to the NES. I know they are fundamentally bad, but they get points for effort.

It's very GB. However, I dunno. I just seen too much of that, and especially coming from you Dragonite. You're designs are repetitive.

Everyone is telling me this, yet they don't say why or how to fix it.

Why complain if you aren't going to help? icon_shrug.gif

It wasn't a complaint. You've mastered the set and style already Dragonite. Why not take the time to go learn a new tileset, or better yet, why not tamper around with the graphics and design your own stuff like me? You won't get far if you keep playing level 3 over and over in a video game.

The river on the left looks too straight, especially when the ponds on the right side looks more natural. Other then that, nice structure, not really too many houses to scream Castle Town but I'm assuming the right side exit of map leads to more of the town.

Dragonite, I agree with Marco when he says you've mastered the tileset ,but like him I know you can do better than this. I also agree with you in saying that criticism that isn't constructive is worthless . I will try to be as constructive as possible.

This map is well done: it has proper tile placement, a relatively good pallet, and relatively good spacing of content. What this map lacks is imagination and passion. It only contains content which we have seen roughly a trillion times. It consists of of old recycled, rehashed, and reused design and content which feel boring and empty. The entire map feels like filler. It's not fun to look at. It lacks any heart or soul. You say that you're trying something new but it doesn't look like it at all.

This type of scenario is usually the result of several options: either using the same ideas over and over until the very ideas that were once new and fresh have become an unoriginal formula, simply starting zquest. with no real plan of what to make and just placing tiles, or both.

I would recommend finding something that you're really passionate about making in zquest. and just run with it! Don't just haphazardly make things because you feel like you have to. Find something you really love to make and do it!

I hope I was constructive.

I'M THE MAP, I'M THE MAP, I'M THE MAP, I'M THE MAP, I'M THE MAP!
An icy mountain. With a graveyard. Why a graveyard?Because originally, I wanted a graveyard in this area.

Question:What should I call this area?

Looks very good, Link! (I'll just call you that. icon_razz.gif) The colors are nice.

How about something like Water Peak? Or something about the graveyard?

Your map looks great, but why are there so many owl statues? What do they do?

Go Jared! icon_smile.gif Bravo!

Originally I didn't like the bright pallet you were using in your shots but as a map it really looks good! Congratulations! Enter it in to map of the month. icon_wink.gif

A 2.5 feature. You stand in front of it, press Start and you get the option to save.
