I said EA, didn't I? I've had it with them myself. I bought Red Alert 3 on Steam, only to find that the online play didn't work. After weeks of dealing with customer service, they finally had me a new registration code. "Eh, I'll give them one more shot" I figured. I bought Mass Effect. And it just flat out doesn't work. At all. Won't start up. Customer service recommended that I switch operating systems. And that's when I said from here on out, I'm not buying anything from EA ever again.

With regards to Mass Effect, try running Steam as an administrator then launch the game from Steam. If that still doesn't work go to the games folder and run the launcher as an admin (Steam must also be running as an admin).

Once you've gotten the game to launch at least once you shouldn't need to ever run Steam or the game as admin again.

*insert picture of a guy whacking a dead horse labeled "EA sucks" with a stick*

Anyway, finally made a little progression in Yoshi's Island. But now I've started Megaman 10 as well, meaning once that's done, that's another series put to rest. Then there are the various other Megaman series... icon_heh.gif

Playing Ni no Kuni, Wrath of the White Witch. The original is one of my favorite games ever, so even though I don't own a PS3 I picked up the game and conned a friend into loaning me his system.

I'm really enjoying it, but I think the original is superior. There was just so much they fit into the DS version that exceeded all my expectations.

So I completed Megaman 10 last night and that concludes the classic Megaman series. I feel like a void has opened up in my life.

...

Onward to more Yoshi's Island.

So, I'm thinking I'm gonna play Xenosaga... Any thoughts? I was never able to finish the first one because of a disk scratch.

The first two Xenosaga games are pretty good... But I could not stand the 3rd game.
Way to much dialog it made the game drag on way to long.

So on a whim, I got The Wily Wars, a Genesis remake of the first 3 Megaman games. Beat the first tonight. It's... not as good as I remember it being. Elecman's stage in particular was pretty bad, and finding out that I was stuck in Wily's Castle cuz I missed an item and having to blow all my lives to get back to the state select screen, then replay the worst level of the game to get the magnet gun, then go all the way back through Wily's Castle to that point was very annoying. That's not how you do good design Capcom.

Fireman's stage was cool, at least.

I've also been trying to get all of the achievements in Left 4 Dead 2. I've got 78% of them right now. Currently trying to get the Real Deal, and boy is it tough.

As far as the whole Magnet Beam thing, I have a hard time finding that too annoying because it was an early game in an era where they tended to encourage looking around for things (and Megaman games still do that), just not as refined. The stage itself isn't so bad once you get used to it either. For what it's worth, I still like the game more than the vastly-overrated 2.

Also more Yoshi's Island. This game's not allowed to have music as good as it has.

And then Megaman 2 was horrible. Seriously. I just stopped after realized I'd screwed up the fourth Wily Castle boss and would have to play the whole thing over again to come back with enough crash bombs. It's just... the game's s***, really. The Wily Stage 1 music is its only redeeming quality, everything else is just a mess of bad stage design and broken bosses. And to think this was the first Megaman game I played. How did I manage to keep going with the series after that?

I tried playing through Wily Wars. There's something screwy with the physics or something. I'll hit the button to make Mega Man run left or right, and there's a very slight delay before he'll start moving. A bit of a twitch, really. It doesn't sound like much, but whenever I needed to make slight adjustments to get out of the way of something, Mega Man would just twitch instead of start running when I tapped the button, so I'd get hit instead. I've never had that happen when playing the NES versions.

Anyways, I'm trying yet again to play through Final Fantasy Adventure. The first time I ever played it, I got stuck in a hopeless situation where I ran out of keys halfway through the Dark Lord's castle, and since the doors re-lock themselves when you leave the rooms, I couldn't progress. I recently downloaded LameBoy for my DS flashcart, and tried playing through it again. I got to the fight against the Dark Lord at the end of the castle, but then accidentally hit "Delete State" instead of "Load" on the LameBoy menu. Because I had been using the emulator's save state feature instead of in-game saving for convenience, I lost nearly all my progress and I'm stuck at my last in-game save: immediately before boarding Glaive's Airship to try and rescue the girl.

I swear the universe is actively trying to prevent me from ever fully playing this game.

Yeah...it's stuff like this that makes me look at Mega Man 2 as one of the most overrated games (at least imo) of all time. MM3 should be alright, though the doc stages can be a mixed bag depending on the person, and Wily's stages are just really.....dissapointing. MM4 I feel was the peak of when they finished all the problems I had with the first 3 Mega Man games, and it's a masterpiece in my eyes, even to this day. Prolly my favorite NES game ever even.

I'm not big on the physics engine of Wily Wars even. The slowdown seems worse and the buster fires slower than I would like it too.

EDIT: Crap, double post. Hopefully the staff take my two posts and combine it into one. x.x

So I'm a little over halfway through Yoshi's Island right now, and I think I've decided: It's nowhere near as good as Super Mario World. That said, it's still pretty good, with a fun little soundtrack, and worth the experience. I think I might go replay Yoshi's Story after this to compare the two, since it's been so damn long since I've played it. Oh, and before anyone notes I can't make this comparison when I'm only halfway through... that's generally enough to make a judgment on the overall quality of a Mario game. icon_razz.gif

I also started Megaman 4 again just so I can make sure I wasn't insane or anything when I said it was the best in the classic series so far. I've only beaten the robot masters and will tackle the castle stages tomorrow, but so far, my claim's being pretty validated. Good, solid game. And the soundtrack wasn't as bad as I remember, though it's still kind of weak compared to the first three games. And 6. And 9 and 10. Stands far above 5's though. >_>

As far as MM2's low quality (yay two other people that agree with me), it irritates me so much when people go berserk over MM2 and claiming it's the best in the series when there are so many problems that were mentioned, chief among them that one Crash Bomb boss in Wily's Fortress. Looking back in this thread, I didn't seem to talk much on it; I must have done all my discussions in chat. Basically, the level design isn't the greatest, the robot master weapons are ridiculously unbalanced (here's looking at you, Metal Blade), there's tons of heinously unfair enemy placement... on the bright side, it had a good soundtrack. But I'm quick to argue there are tons of better songs than Wily Stage 1, even within Megaman 2 itself, dammit.

Megaman 3 would be my favorite, it does after all have the best soundtrack in the series, but it does suffer from some issues with difficulty and fairness (at least by Megaman standards), though I didn't think the Wily stages were disappointing. I think why I like MM4 the most (as a game) is the pure polish of the gameplay and making it much more solid overall. And then 5 came along and ruined everything.

Truth be told, I've never played Yoshi's Island either, mostly because it's a pain to find. I might just end using the emulator and doing an LP of it blind, truth be told.
