This game makes me relive an old classic, for I wouldn't be even playing ALTTP right now if I weren't hyped about a fun sequel.

I like the idea they're going for, that we get to take a look at an environment and how it's changed over generations. Ocarina of Time and Oracle of Ages both explored this concept, but in the same game. Getting to do so in a new game, while it may seem like a cheap recycling, still seems like it could be a neat experience.
Hmmm ... I didn't think of it that way. The gameplay they've shown of the Tower of Hera does show Link exploring an outer wall of the tower, with sky visible in the background. Even if it's the same locations, it may be interesting to see what unique spins they put on it due to the passage of time and the ability to reach different areas ...

I don't care about adding new places or not. This game I feel is marketed towards people who have not yet enjoyed the classic. It is my belief that ALTTP is too difficult for the modern gamer, so I predict this game's difficulty will be heavily watered down.

LTTP, Hard? Moderate maybe, but...even when I was tanking my way through the game, I never got a single game over. Things start doing obscene amounts of damage in the dark world before you get the Blue Tunic, but that's what Fairies in Bottle are for. If you want hard, Zelda II is where all the difficulty in the series went XD.

Yes and no, I think. If you watch this video you'll see that the map is mostly identical but the "walk on walls" mechanic allows you to traverse it in a completely new way. So you should have a good idea of where you're going, but still have to figure out how to get there.Yeah, this pretty much confirms my worst fears - that we're not going to get to explore ANYWHERE new.

Interesting ... I hadn't seen that one before. I want to reiterate that my concern isn't with the layout of areas, but with the atmosphere. In that sense, I'm still pretty disappointed with how the overworld is looking. It just looks exactly the same, with nothing to set it apart from the previous except for a few puzzles involving the wall painting mechanic. As for the dungeon ... I'm a little confused as to why the Eastern Palace looks and acts more like the Tower of Hera, but I was actually impressed ... The wall style, the music, being able to play around outside the tower's walls ... all of those things provide the sort of new experience I'm looking for, and it wasn't as clear in shorter videos just how DIFFERENT this place feels. Hopefully, other overworld areas will look a bit different ... something as simple as weather effects would give the impression that they were at least using their imaginations a little. Anyway, I'm certain I'll buy it, and I'm certain I'll have fun with it, I'm just more excited for some things than others.

I think it can work just like many of the first quest remakes worked. Doesn't necessarily change the layout, so you know the basic LOCATION of everything, but the way you traverse the areas, and the feeling they give off is totally different. As long as it's that way, I think this game and I will get along fine...IF I owned a 3DS =x. First world problem~

Looks like touchscreen for inventory management is required :/ Can't just use one form of input the entire playthrough :/

Eh, that's no big deal. As for the video itself, really liking how the Fire Rod works, leaving a pillar of fire. Too bad it doesn't burn down all the grass in a section when the fire rod touches it, though, like in Four Swords Adventures, but that's no big deal. I think I really am digging the overworld conversion, and will be happy to give that a play. Still not a big fan of the remix of the overworld theme... Couldn't they have just directly converted the original theme into an orchestrated version? Since we haven't actually had one before? Instead of swapping out one of the best parts of the song for a new part that doesn't sound half as good?
Ah well, the orchestrated remixes will still be something to look forward to, as will this game.

Zelda 2 is also too hard for the modern gamer.
Btw, you wanna talk hard games, you should try beating Battletoads and Ninja Gaiden. Than we'll discuss hard games. Lol

Where have YOU been =O. Of course they wouldn't use this though, because it's way too...dramatic.

I have a feeling it's because of the backlash of the fans. Like, I heard Ocarina of Time on the 3DS didn't use any new sounds/updated sounds, as all the music and sounds were direct ports. It just leaves me to conclude that they're not stepping into orchestrated territory because of people saying things like "It's good, but it doesn't have that Zelda feel." Even Dragon Quest doesn't use the Symphonic Versions that are made for every games soundtrack in the actual games; they use chiptune (be it of whatever sound quality the system is capable of...8-bit, 16-bit, etc.). The only exception to this was the US localization of Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2....they were like "Fuck it, we're putting in the symphonic versions of the track, because this IS the PS2 and it can do that."

No new updates really, other than I went and preordered it like the fanboy I am. Forgot to ask if there was going to be a midnight launch, but they usually let people who preordered it know these things a couple of weeks in advance of the game's release anyway.

So the Nintendo Direct threw out some new stuff, like the Dark World, but the method of travel is different, and actually looks kind of awesome. Now it better have the portal sound effect or the game sucks. D:<
...
They hinted at other stuff as well; fans already took note of the prominent dark Triforce in the logo, and Iwata himself went out of his way to point it out, hinting at a second Triforce. Which, depending on how they pull that off, I'm all for, because I think they could be awesome. Oh, and they updated Link's artwork:
I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I find it freaking adorable. On the other, the old artwork was so A Link to the Past, but updated and new, which was meant to be the feeling for the game in general, I'm assuming. I dunno, I like both. I'm not truly fussed either way, it's not like one piece of artwork affects the gameplay, it's just an interesting point of discussion.
