Well yeah, Gamefreak went HUGE with these games and destroyed Diamond/Pearl/Platinum by a landslide icon_razz.gif

Which makes me wonder if this is their last generation pokemon game. I mean isn't Arceus literally the "God" of all pokemon with it's trio of dragons (Palkia,Dialga, and Giratina)? There is no way a Generation V pokemon can top Arceus the "god" and the controllers of time space and matter.

They could bring in the "Devil" of Pokemon, and come up with the evil mirrors of time, space, and matter. Although it would probably make it to dark for a Pokemon game.

http://www.serebiifo...p;postcount=425 It appears you can actually customize the Safari Zone, as in put new objects inside it to influence what kind of Pokemon live there. Pure awesomeness.

I thought that they would have at least made it so the opposing trainers actually throw their Pokeballs, instead of having them leave it on the ground and pop open icon_shrug.gif.

well it seems these games are a BIG hit in Japan.

Apparently, the games have sold over 1.5 million copies in japan in only two days of it's release! That's amazing!

Well daaammnn. This may sounds like the end based on how well thought out and featured it is, but with sales like that, doubt it. Maybe it's a sign of a MAJOR change to the basic recipe? I vote more real-time action!

I vote opposing trainers actually throwing their Pokeballs =P.

But seriously, I think it will be difficult for them to add new Pokemon; some of the new ones are already pointless.

Agreed. I can here Bidoof in my sleep. icon_razz.gif

However, they did make plenty of good ones for Generation Four. I trust that they can make enough good ones for Gen 5 to keep the series alive. Or at least include enough old ones in the regional dex that we don't notice the new bad ones. icon_razz.gif

Maybe. I'm not saying the anime couldn't continue on, but as for the games, the best they could probably do after this is just a bunch of remakes =O.

Unless they decide to change things, like a real-time battle system.

Personally, I think the anime needs to return to its roots, that being designed for teenagers instead of children. I miss heart-wrenching moments like a very bad trainer who leaves his Charmander out in the rain to die because he thought it (he?) was weak who was saved by Ash and eventually becomes one of the best (albeit difficult to use) Pokémon of all time. Or that time where Ash, to follow his dream of ebing a master, must decide whether to make his Pikachu evolve against his will or Pikachu to decide whether he should evolve for him, to change who they are for another. Episodes don't do this anymore.

I honestly believe they should try some real-time system. The closest we have are the Mystery Dungeon games and I do believe they're extremely popular and even then, the game's good without Pokémon!

I'm not sure how a real time system would work. Pokemon and real time just don't seem to go together. If they want to make really good Pokemon games, they need to break out of the pattern they always follow. Here's some things that would be nice.

A new really good region. If you look on this map, you'll see a stretch of land between Johto and Hoenn. That would be the perfect place for a new region. It's got two good pieces of land, a stretch of water in between to allow for water routs, and some floating towns, and a northern island perfect for an event legendary. Plus, it's location would allow you to explore Hoenn after beating the game, like you get to do with Kanto in Gold/Silver, and if were really lucky, even Johto and Kanto.

A tournament style last boss. The Elite Four are getting kind of old. They need to have a tournament instead. You, the rival, and the other gender character all compete along with thirteen other elite trainers (so you'd fight four battles), and the winner faces the Champion.

A darker storyline. All of the Pokemon games (with possibly the exception of Platinum) have storylines that are we too cheery. We need a team that's actually really evil. For that matter, the bad guys should be the last boss, not the champion. Maybe something neat, like having the bad guy leader launch an attack on the tournament place after you beat the Champion.

Some really good Pokemon. No explanation needed. Anybody who hates Bidoof, raise your hand.

Lots of legendaries, with deep stories behind them. Platinum really took a leap in this direction. There were tons of legendaries, and some had stories behind them. We need to continue the trend, but have deeper stories behind them. What happened in the Old chatteu? How did Regigigas become locked in Snowpoint Temple, miles away from his three creations (who got sealed underwater). Stuff like that.

A two player co-op mode. Have certain missions and legendaries that can only be done with two people playing simultaneously. We need more 2P stuff than battling, and the fourth gen games to a leap in that direction with the Sinnoh Underground. Just think of how neat it would be to have two people play through certain events and catch certain legendaries together.

That's what I think the series could really use. Maybe I'm going a bit overboard, but the Pokemon series could really benefit from those ideas.

I am finding it a bit funny that I am not a huge fan of Pokemon games, but I am actually looking forward to getting SoulSilver when it's released. Perhaps it's because I had bought the original when it came out. I actually busted my ass to get it, going everywhere I could to get my check cashed, to go buy the last copy of it. (A gas station finally got me my money. icon_lol.gif)

I love how you can rematch the Gym Leaders, and Red, cause he is a trainer of epic proportions icon_wink.gif.

Russ, your ideas are amazing! A few comments, though.

The world of Pokémon is actually all of Japan?! It makes so much damn sense, why didn't I see this?! So, does that mean there are only two, maybe three plots of land to have a new game with? Sounds scary to hear the possible end of Pokémon.

While I do understand the arrogance of the Elite Four taking on all challengers as they do, the tourney style "ending" makes more realistic sense. I'm almost tempted to say possible opponents include famous rivals such as Blue (aka Gary), Silver, Louis, etc.

Darker storyline would rock so much...but Nintendo wanting to cater to all ages, this will be difficult to pull off. As it stands, there's Team Rocket as the most evil. Perhaps we can still take their idea/ideals and take it maybe a notch higher. Hell, since it's been 3 years since 1st gen (and I have no idea what the 2nd gen story is), maybe they could simply have a badass revival! But yes, the bad guys are the last thing to do to beat the game. The current trend is pretty...anticlimactic, sans maybe 1st gen. You beat the Team Rocket, but their boss gets away, only you find out later he's a gym leader: two birds one stone, and suddenly have your rival still pecking at you. Keeps you going, especially finding out your rival beat you to it.

Come to think of it...the first two gens have the best, don't they? They shouldn't exceed them (fan service), but definitely rival in both usefullness and appearance.

If we use the anime (doubtful) and Pokédex inserts, most legendaries already have their tale told, it need only be shown for the world. I say, do this!

Two player sounds good, but a word of caution if you ask me. Puling it off may be tricky, but if getting Pokémon exclusive to two-player mode becomes anything like getting Tombstone...I'll cry. PLEASE allow this over the Nintendo WFC. PLEASE!

One thing we could do extra might be tweak how the capture/badge system works. I don't see away around the idea of capture by force and them not liking you (it's expected). However, what irks me is any you capture is STILL 100% loyal! The badges only affect traded Pokémon and field usage (another irk...). How about badge AND happiness affects how loyal they are to you? The trade off? Since people rarely make their 'mon unhappy, give Frustration a damage boost.

Another thing, I don't see how EVs work in real life. A friend of mine suggested the moves used should determine them, but that seems a tad unfair. I say lower IV differences between Pokemon (32 base difference sounds too much), Pokerus boosts exp gains (no EV doubling) and add an EV training area for up to 3 at a time. Somehow, yes harder, but makes you do stuff more than just battling the same things over and over and over...

One last thing...have viruses that caused by poor training that do bad things. Nothing game breaking, but like decreased exp gains, slows EV gains, weakens physical/special moves, etc. They'd be more common than Pokerus and again, your Pokemon can infect others and gaina immunity. Just take good care of your 'mon. icon_wink.gif
