I've been feeling like playing Pokemon Yellow again lately, but instead of doing a normal run-thru, I figured I would make it more interesting. Basically, you guys are going to decide how I make the major decisions in my playthrough. Unlike Twitch Plays Pokemon, however, it's more of a traditional "interactive story" type deal where I'll post here regularly with progress and updates. If this thread doesn't gain any traction or nobody cares, I'll just play on my own. It's win-win.

 

The only stipulation is that I'm keeping the Pikachu that follows me around. Yellow was the first Pokemon game I ever played, and I just love having that little guy go wherever I go. I also have access to a Gameshark (it's an emulator) so if we decide we want things to get weird, they'll get weird.

 

So first things first: our hero needs a name.

 

 

While we're at it, post ideas for a rival's name as well. Note there's a 7-character limit for both of them. Then we can get this show on the road!

This sounds like a pretty cool idea. I'll see if I can try and participate more as the game goes on.

 

As for the hero's name... "PureZC". It would be kinda funny seeing the message boxes be like "PureZC got a Pokéball!", but meh it might sound a bit too generic. While I'm at it, I'd totally go for "TS" as the rival's name with the amazing powers to fire everyone in the Pokemon world B)

Alright, the first few have spoken. We will begin our journey as...

PureZC! While "MrButts" does have a nice ring to it, the name is just too apt not to use. Our rival, however, is not so fortunate.

 

Thus begins our adventure! (Hope you're not too concerned with 1st person and 3rd person being used interchangeably.)

 

PureZC somberly walks over to the PC in his room, removing the sole POTION. We go downstairs, walking right by our own mother and out the door. The poor woman has no idea that this is the last time she will see her boy for a long, long time. PureZC, eager to begin the journey, heads towards Route 1, only to be stopped by a voice: "hey idiot, you need a Pokemon!" Just at this moment, a ferocious, electric mouse attacks. Professor Oak swiftly captures the Pokemon and leads us back to his lab. Our rival, GoatFKR, is waiting there. As Professor Oak generously offers PureZC the Pokemon on his table for protection, GoatFKR snatches it from us! Left with no other choice, our hero receives the Pikachu.

 

 

What shall we nickname our companion? 10 character limit.

 

Let's also set a rule where you can only catch one pokemon for each city you visit. :>

 

This is a smart idea. Now, between Routes 1 & 22 (the two that surround Viridian City), we have the following options:

 

-Pidgey

-Rattata

-Spearow

-Nidoran F

-Nidoran M

-Mankey

 

Since the second fight with GoatFKR happens pretty early on, we should decide on this one now. Be sure to make recommendations for nicknames as well.

 

To summarize, we need:

-Nickname for Pikachu

-Pokemon to catch for Viridian City

-Nickname for 2nd Pokemon

As much as I think Nidoran F is my favorite gen 1 Pokemon, He coooould always just catch one after Pewter City. :x

I'm gonna go vote for Mankey as well, only so I can post Cranky Kong's advice when Mankey faints.

 

...oh and it will wreck Brock too. As for a nickname... gonna go for DonkeyKong

Catch a Mankey and name him "Cranky".

Since Joel was the only one to suggest a nickname for our starter, we now have a Pikachu who's into water sports:

 

PureZC tries to leave the lab but is challenged to a battle with GoatFKR! Clearly, we got the better Pokemon:

Despite the victory, however, PikaPee is not very fond of us:

 

Our hero leaves the lab, wandering up Route 1 and into Viridian City. He stops by the PokeMart to get some PokeBalls for his journey, when a man behind the counter starts yelling to him: "Hey kid! Do my work for me!" Content to do volunteer work and regress a little bit, PureZC accepts the package for Professor Oak and brings to him to immediately. "Thanks for the package!" he says. "I would love it if you could document every Pokemon in the world for me real quick." Being the good Samaritans we are, we gladly accept. We get a map from GoatFKR's sister and make our way back to Viridian City. After buying some PokeBalls, we go out to capture our first wild Pokemon!

 

The majority of you voted for Mankey, which is very fortunate because I wasn't looking forward to fighting Brock with Pidgey. Pretty much all of the suggested nicknames were rhymes or puns, so here's something in the middle suggested by Nexas:

 

PureZC goes into the field to train PikaPee and Dankey. After numerous blackouts and visits to the PokeCenter, we're ready for another battle with GoatFKR! We head west to Route 22 and take down our rival with ease.

And we've finally gained PikaPee's acceptance!

Here is our current situation (the clock is woefully wrong because I sped up the rom to make grinding quicker):

 

Dankey should be learning Low Kick pretty soon, which will be helpful (because right now he sucks). Our next feat is taking down our first gym leader: Brock! There will be more time between this post and the next, but I wanted to get the beginning of the game out of the way since it's so mundane. Heading to another town means that we have the opportunity to catch another Pokemon. Here is our wealth of options:

 

-Caterpie

-Pidgey

-Rattata

-Nidoran F

-Nidoran M

-Caterpie

-Metapod

-Pidgeotto

 

So let's get some suggestions for species & nicknames! We're also going to need a battle order for Brock. If the 1st one faints, we'll send out the 2nd one. If that one faints, we'll send out the 3rd one.

 

To summarize, we need:

-New Pokemon

-Nickname for new Pokemon

-Battle order for Brock, including our new 3rd Pokemon

For Brock, make HonkeyPig the starter, followed by PikaPee, followed by Dankey.
