So, I revamped my starting area in my quest. I'm not done with it yet, I still want to come up with better ideas on how to fill in the empty space than the "buildings" that stick out of the deck. Anyways, here's a shot of how it looked before...

Ignore that the picture shows it twice. I don't have a copy of the original anymore, and this was the only full-map picture I had. Funny enough, I used this picture originally for a "before and after" post as well.

Here's the new version...

It's a lot larger than it was before, mainly because I'm going to be relying on the player figuring out relative locations on the ship and jumping into pits to reach new parts of the lower decks. It was made bigger so that the outside of the ship would line up more easily with the inside. I just haven't put the pits in yet.

There's a bit more to this but I'm just gonna show off this section. You can see what's going on here though :P

It looks good. My only complain is the bottom center screen is a little empty. Add some detail to it. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I dunno what else to really add to that section, but I like it the way it is, so I'm probably just gonna leave it  :P

Edit: I'm an idiot, didn't realise you mentioned "bottom centre screen". Nothing has been done there yet lel. Thanks anyways lol

I prefer the original to be honest. The new version seems to lack details and look a little more bland, also what's with all the windows?

The ship also now looks unnaturally large. I mean, what kind of ship is this? A Zelda cruise ship? lol

But ya, that's just how I feel about it, I thought it looked better before. :/

I decided to expand it, because I'm relying on the player utilizing the map system to figure out where they should drop to the lower decks and find equipment. I've already gone through and added details, removed most of the windows as well as adding a bit more detail to the walls they're on, and put in holes the player can drop through. The windows and structures were just sort of placeholder so I could build the physical layout.

I never understood something about your map. Why does the boat have square edges, and not circular edges like a real boat?

Probably because the stern of a sailing ship is usually angular:

Partially that, and partially because the tiles from the Oracle games that I used didn't have a curved edge that I could use. I'm going to have to find some new tiles when I add in the opposite side of the boat.

I've got something new to show. I've looked over maps of Hyrule Town from Minish Cap, Kakariko Village from Link to the Past, Mabe Village from Link's Awakening, and Lynna City and Horon Village from the Oracle games. Going off of all of these to try and make it feel as authentic as possible, I came up with my quest's take on Hyrule Town.

Not a very happy day.

Still a bit of a work-in-progress. I need to add a bit more decoration, but the general layout is done. What do you think?

good use of dark, morbid colors. To get the water to look as moody, try a dark, purplish tint. also, on the subject of decoration, ground tiles yes please

I finished the previously mentioned overworld btw. here's the new look

First post since things went down.... anyways, here's a map of my first area for my submission for the Winter Quest Mashup Contest that ZoriaRPG is hosting. Just in case people want to explore it rather than see all the secrets, I'm putting it in a spoiler tag.

Spoiler

I haven't decided if I'm going to use the right side of the map yet or not, but there you go.

DA MAP!

Marunna Abode, a generic village surrounded by generic purple ocean water with generic green and pinkish trees; (cause nobody loves purple trees anymore). :P

EDIT: Made a few slight changes. :)
