So far, my Link sprites are going good. But I can not make my north/south facing sprites look good at all. I need someone to at least create a standard south/north facing Link sprite so I can work from there. That means you don't have to animate it or anything like that. But what's even more troubling, is the four diagonal slash sprites. Can someone assist me with those too?

Needless to say I will give credit where it's due. This will be a big accomplishment for my quest, so this will mean a lot!

And of course, I'll be submitting most of my custom EZGBZ quest graphics after the quest is near completion or completely finished.

"D'uh, what's wrong with 'em?" :freak:   <-- That's (kind of) what I was thinking when I first read this post and looked at the picture. (No offense; just poking fun at myself. :) )

So, if I get what's going on here, you're trying to make Link sprites with lighter hair instead of the default GB "black" hair.  Is that right?

Is the hair all that you're changing? I can't quite tell if there are any other differences.

Basically the whole head (hat, hair, head shape) is all new. I'm trying to make the hair like how it was in the offical artwork, if that helps.

Update: I just need someone to make a south and diagonal facing Link sprites now as I've done the north sprites (plus the additional ones). Added original GB Link for people to compare below; I thought the difference was obvious though. My bad.

The biggest difference is that Link no longer has ears the size of his head. What was up with that?

Alrighty, then, check out what I've got for you, Charizard:  8)

Believe it or not, I looked at the sprites for the female hero in BS Zelda (on Spriter's Resource) as inspiration to make the hair for the south-facing sprites.  Obviously I couldn't use the exact thing; I just took some "pixel-use tips" here and there from them.

I believe you wanted the shieldless slashing sprites to match the others, so I updated what you had (fourth row) and then removed the shield (fifth row).  For the south-facing slash sprite, though, I had to see the shieldless sprite first so I could distinguish between Link's hair and his shield; in that case, I made the shieldless sprite before the one with the shield.

What do you think? I wasn't sure if the original GB sprite looked too far down, so I raised the eyes by one pixel.  Do we need to lower his face back down a pixel?

Thanks a bunch! And thank you also for doing the shielded ones too!

Something seems just a bit awkward about the south sprite, but I can't put my finger on what exactly. But it's a lot better than my attempt for sure. The diagonal sprites are perfect, no doubt about it. Great work.

No problem! :)

I wonder if it's the stray green pixel between his eyes underneath his hair.  I got the idea from the BS Zelda female hero sprite used, but maybe I shouldn't have done it because it's not GB style to have a color other than black between features.  Should that be black instead?  (Not sure if my description is clear enough; let me know if you don't understand.)

Maybe it would look better if I moved the face down one pixel, so more of his hat could show on top?

Let me know what you think.

Yeah, I think it's the cap (or rather the lack of :P) is what's throwing me off. I see no harm in trying.

Okay, try this:

I put the face back down one pixel and left the hair as the same (except for being one pixel lower).  The eye position is now the same as the original GB sprites.

I like the new south and north-facing sprites! However, I think the south-facing are too much like the original Gameboy ones. Maybe that's why they don't fit too well?
