Hello everyone! For everyone in the US, I hope you had a good Thanksgiving! And for everyone, I hope you all have been enjoying the much better holiday of the release of a new Pokemon game. :P

I know it's not typical for the staff to announce their retirement (especially in an announcement) and I'm honestly not the type to want to make a big fuss over it, but I figured you all deserve to officially know. Over the years I've unfortunately felt myself drifting away from Zelda Classic and the PureZC community. I've loved this place, and it's been my home online for around 12-13 years. I have a lot of memories here with a lot of amazing people. However, all things tend to come to and end, and lately I've found myself having other priorities and interests in life, and I haven't been able to give PureZC the attention it deserves, and I don't really want to string you all along into thinking that I'm here when I'm not. Granted, I don't plan on vanishing completely, but I doubt I'll be very active outside of GD and GE.

With my departure from the staff, I am leaving the site in the very capable hands of the staff, and I've been working on trying to give them more access to some things that they may need in my absence. Part of this process involves me transitioning PureZC over to another server (the former beta server). With this migration, I've been able to clean up a couple things up a bit, isolate PureZC on its on environment, as set things up to allow giving the keys to someone else. Furthermore, it's getting PureZC out of the Linode datacenter which has been plagued with lots of DDOS attacks, so hopefully this will also give the site some more stability.

I'm planning for this migration to happen tomorrow morning around 7am EST. I don't expect any issues with the transfer process, but as there are some DNS configuration changes, it may take a while for people to get directed to the new site.

I'll make a post when the updates are done tomorrow, but otherwise, thanks for everything, everyone. :)

(P.S. Since I assume that it'll come up at some point, Nick and I are hoping to release what we've done on Fairy Dream to the public in the future, as well as release an unpassworded version of it with all of our scripts.)

You have done more than anybody could (or should) ask for.  I consider you the savior of PureZC during a time of uncertainty.  You took over the helm when someone really needed to, and stayed the course for several years afterwards.  But like anybody, there is eventually that time where people move on, and I am glad you care enough about this place to help make the transition as smooth as possible.  The every day well being of PureZC has never been too dependent on one person alone, and that has contributed a lot to this place surviving as long as it has, and should continue to do so for a long time.  I wish you the best Matt.

It's gonna be really sad to see you leave the staff team, but you've been an amazing help with the community and have definitely worked so hard on improving this site and making it such a pleasure for members to be a part of. But yeah, thanks a lot for everything you've done with the site :D

Wow, first Nick, now you're retiring? I completely understand though, and knew the day would come eventually. I hope it all goes well for you with your other investments, and thanks for all you have done for the site.

So who is gonna be the new official warlord owner? :P

I wasn't around when PureZC went through some of its more challenging times, but I have a thorough appreciation for all you've given to the site. This place has become incredibly important to me in a relatively short time frame, and the connections I've made here continue to enrich my life. Thanks for helping to make that possible, and for being a calm and patient leader even during the most stressful times.

I'm happy you're sticking around at least a little. Your presence in the staff will certainly be missed, but don't worry too much. I'm confident we've got it covered. I wish you the best in all your endeavors. :)

Sorry to see you go mate: You're the best. Thank you again for all your time and devotion, and I hope to see you around from time-to-time.

I also hope that the new admin/SysOp is ready for the fun involved with IPB software maintenance, changes, and such. As a Sysop, I can honestly say through experience, that maintaining a forum, or server of any sort, is a full-time job in and of itself.

Best wishes, and good luck with all your endeavours.

Matt,

It's hard to fathom the amount of time and effort you've invested in the site. We owe you so much for your devotion and your leadership. It's no hyperbole to say that PureZC might have vanished had you not completely overhauled the site in Wild Bill's absence. I'll also remember you for your and Justin's ZCast series: each episode was a bright moment in my weekend.

We had occasional disagreements during my time on staff, but I never doubted your drive to make PureZC the best it could be.

Your intelligence and level-headedness will serve you well wherever you go. We've been lucky to be a beneficiary for the last 13.5 years. Now it's somebody else's turn.

Thank you once again for your love.

Sincerely,
Ed

Matt, it's because of your efforts that this site is still alive. That means a lot to me personally as I've met some of my best friends through this site over the years, and to be frank watching this place disappear would have been one of the most tragic things I could probably experience. The community is not and never has been perfect but you've helped define what it is. I'm member 91; I haven't quite been here since the very beginning but I was close to it and I know the entire site history. Pure has been a home of sorts for myself as well over the nearly fifteen years I've been here and it's going to be strange now that you're not leading it, but I truly appreciate everything you've done.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. :) I definitely appreciate it, and I really wish everyone the best!

The migration is now complete. There were a few unexpected hiccups with DNS on the server being cached, so it took a bit longer to finish than I had expected. I'll be keeping an eye on everything for the next week to make sure that everything is running safe and sound with the new server.

I don't post often anymore mostly lurk but I can honestly say that since the passing of WildBill (and some time before that when he became busy with life) you have took up the reigns and did a great job keeping this community alive and growing. It's not a stretch to say this community probably wouldn't be around without your help and leadership.

That being said I'm glad this is simply a retirement and not a farewell.
