Another round of cool entries! :D

You may be thinking, "It's cool that you guys named a character after Haylee from PureZC". The funny part is it's the other way around.

Aaa this is a hard week, especially between Moon and TK. I think I'll go with Moon, though. I love this muted GB-esque work. Only thing I'd suggest is giving the crates some water underneath them, since they're partially in the shallow water (?) and updated Link sprites. Otherwise, perfection.

AutumnHaunted: I love it! I love all the jewels and gems too. Only sucky thing is that the (very cool) text box covers almost the entire screen.

Orithan: I like this! It's a bit hard to read as the tiles are very noisy, but I can make out what you're trying to convey. Great work!

Twilight Knight: I LOVE this!  It's very detailed, yet simple and easy to understand the tiles' functions. I LOVE the warp too.... I actually would like the white part of it if possible :3.  Can't wait to play this majestic quest!

I wish I could've animated my one but there are too many different elements that it'd be a nightmare to make and I suspect would exceed the file size limit. But just for context, the colour of the walls and floor use palette cycling to hue-shift all across the rainbow in a loop, Haylee's character sprite hovers in place with a simple animation, and then the big face in the top left animates with a looping "talk" animation as well as an intermittent blink on the eyes, and then over in the text box, the scanlines scroll across the screen and the text itself fills in using a "stencil" (i.e. the text is made by layering two tiles of the same dark green colour over one another but with holes cut into the top one, while the bottom ones have a combo-cycle that changes the colour to the light green to "reveal" the text. Also, in-game, we're gonna be reserving the secret sfx to only ever play on screens with Haylee dialogue and using a sound effects pack to make her produce Banjo-Kazooie-style babbles. Anyway, aside from all that, there's not much to this one, it's just a standard cutscene screen, but I wanted to show off the unique way her dialogue works. Some other characters are planned to have their own dialogue gimmicks too, but I won't go into details. Oh also I don't remember whether Bikdip or I made this one; I think we both worked on this area together.

Orithan - The player sprite is pretty cute, and I like the doorway on the left. I don't know much about the outback but I think it's really cool to take inspiration from lesser-referenced real-world sources and I'd be interested in seeing more variety in... well, media in general with regards to that.

Moon - It's simple but I really like the composition and colour grading. Voted here.

Twilight Knight - This area looks really cool and fun to explore; I dig the grungy aesthetic and really like the subtle use of purple in the palette to keep it from being completely monochrome (which could work, but I think the way you did it is better for the vibe of this particular area that I'm getting).

Only sucky thing is that the (very cool) text box covers almost the entire screen.

Yeah, it's a bit of a shame. While technically we could've made it only two lines or something, it would've then required more screens to get the same amount of dialogue in, which we technically have a lot of but we've tried to be conservative with nonetheless. If it's any consolation, you can see more of the screen whenever Bargo says stuff, since he just uses the normal ZC strings.

The particular area in my screenshot is the first dungeon in the game, the cavernous lair of a curled-horn demon snake. It is dark, claustrophobic and infested with snake-like monsters and and other nasty creatures that live in darkness.

While the cave and associated region is desert and much of it is arid or semi-arid, the outback features a wide variety of biomes with unique characteristics that get overlooked by overseas media studios. I hope to convey these details appropriately because I live in Australia.

Some more supreme 1.92 cutscene work. The textbox, portrait and custom font look really great, I also like the colourful gems. I'd just say the cave looks very unnatural/artificial, but perhaps this is entirely the intention.

Orithan
I dig those cave walls, torches and floor tiles a lot. The stairs at the bottom got me confused perspective-wise. I also wish the vines/roots on the wall were the same colour as the floor so they'd stand out more, yet match the red-brown walls and green-brown sand a bit better.

Moon
Very lovely. First of all those buildings and all the other custom sprites are great. Then the composition of this screen is also just great, some elevation, multiple paths, some spacious parts, some narrow parts... it has it all! I'd agree with Jared that the boxes could be slightly submerged, and I personally never was a fan of the GB mountain corners. However much I can understand keeping those things as is for consistencies sake, there are already some conventions broken anyway like layered trees, taller buildings and more details in general (nice Pokémon grass + leaves tile btw).

A shoutout btw to FireSeraphim for the walls in my screenshot: https://www.purezc.n...e=tiles&id=1695
They worked out great for me!

I wanted to give the feeling of a set of stairs going up to the outside. Maybe the black on the tiles is what's throwing the perspective off?

Oooh! I really like this week's set of Screenshots!

AutumnHaunted - I really think this is unique with what you guys have going on here. I do

remember seeing a demo video of at least the battle in action and it's impressive that all of

this is done without scripting. The art is fantastic, and the whimsical-ness of it has those kind

of Earthbound / Undertale vibes.

Orithan - I like what you have going on it. I love the NES-feel to the shot and atmosphere,

and I've always admired your tiles of your dog / coyote character. To be honest, I didn't

notice the stairs until they were mentioned by Twilight Knight. I see what you were going

for. I wonder if you extend the stairs one more tile "up" the mountain, and perhaps make

the steps at the "ground level" a little wider if it might help with the perspective.

Otherwise, I love it!

Moon - WOW! This shot hits it out of the park for me. You have the Link's Awakening style

of art, a LttP feel for the town (and in a way it reminds me of the Skyward Sword town) and

the palette gives that "sunset" feel to it. There are so many little details to appreciate,

such as the flowers in the windows, the little cave opening for the water, and so on.

I also dig what you have going on for the subscreen too. Voted Here!

Twilight Knight - This is also a cool looking shot. I agree with everyone else that the

transporter in the middle looks fantastic. I'm actually doing a playthrough of FFIV

for the first time in years, and in the Tower of Babil, there are transporters with

a similar feel, so I dig this. The only thing for me is that the perspective on the

walls is a little difficult to read. Always love your work though!

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful work everyone!

Steve
