So, this is an idea that my brother suggested and I decided that I'd be willing to support.

The basic idea I had was a game where Kirby doesn't have the ability to copy and instead must defeat enemies and finish levels to obtain powers. I'd still include the ability to float and probably a lives system. While copying isn't completely out of the picture, I'd prefer to have the ability to keep the powers you've acquired.

An idea I suggested was a sort of "Power Emporium" where all unlocked powers could be accessed. As you progressed, new powers would become available; but you could only carry a limited number at a time. How many is up to debate, but at least two seems reasonable.

Here's some more details on areas, enemies and plot as well as what the abilities will do.

Areas:

Area 1: Vegetable Valley

1. Yogurt Yard- Sword
2. Green Greens
3. Whispy's Woods- Cutter -Miniboss: Sir Kibble Boss: Whispy Woods

Area 2: Dyna Mt.

1. Grape Gardens
2. Cocoa Caves- Bomb
3. Mount Booma-Dooma- Fire- Miniboss Poppy Bro sr. Boss: Dynablade

Area 3: Cabu Canyon

1. Peanut Plains
2. Donut Desert- Wheel (Pegasus Boots style attack)
3. The Great Cave Offensive- Stone- Miniboss: Pix Boss: Wham-Bam Rock

Area 4: Orange Ocean

1. Blueberry Bay
2. Rainbow Reef- Water (Swim)
3. Blueberry Base- Laser- Miniboss: Acro Boss: Adelaine

Area 5: Icecream Isle

1. Jam Jungle- Needle
2. Raisin Resort
3. Butter Building- Ninja- Miniboss: Lololo and Lalala  Boss: Mr Shine and Mr Bright

Area 6: Shiver Snowfields

1. Frozen Fiord- Ice (Put out fires)
2. Icicle Inn
3. Prism Prison- Beam- Miniboss: Mr Frosty Boss: Computer Virus

Area 7: Bubbly Clouds

1. Volatile Volcano
2. Starry Sky- Spark
3. Kracko's Castle- Mini (Shrink to enter certain areas) Miniboss: Chameleon Arm Boss: Kracko

Area 8: Fudge Factories

1. Blocky Boatyards- Hammer
2. Crystal Creek
3. Battleship Halberd- Jet (Pegasus Boots in the air) Miniboss: Heavy Lobster Boss: Metaknight

Area 9: Castle DeDeDe

1. Murky Mountain
2. Dark Dungeon- Tornado
3. DeDeDe's Coliseum- Yo-Yo- Miniboss: Bugzy Boss: King DeDeDe

Final Area: Fountain of Dreams

1. Halfmoon- Invisible (Cross over spikes)
2. Nutty Nebula
3. Nightmare Enterprises- Mirror Miniboss: Dark Matter Boss: Nightmare King

Power list:
Sword
Cutter (like Boomerang)
Bomb(can be thrown)
Fire
Wheel(go fast and thru barriers)
Stone(hit switches and temporary invulnerability)
Water (like flippers)
Laser (Wand Fire)
Needle (shoot needles like arrows)
Beam (Can go through other objects to hit switches)
Spark(start machinery)
Mini(Shrink to enter areas)
Hammer
Jet(Air pegasus boots)
Tornado (hit switches, throw enemies into the air)
Yo-Yo (projectile rotates around you)
Invisible: Walk over spikes
Mirror: shatter special barriers

The peaceful world of Dreamland is shattered by the theft of the Fountain of Dreams. But that's not all! The favored Hero, Kirby has also lost his ability to copy the powers of his enemies and must recover them to reach the bad guys and save the day!

I'll be using the Kirby's Adventure tileset to start if I actually make it, but first I kind of want feedback on the idea.

You might want to rename the areas. The new "hip" thing in kirby games is to have the first letters of all the world names spell out a word related to the game (RAINBOW for Canvas Curse, CROWNED for Return to Dream Land, FLOWERED for Triple Deluxe, etc...).

Also, seems like a good premise! I might play it if it gets finished and I have free time :P

And a screenshot I assembled, along with a subscreen that looks a bit unfinished.

No actual scripting has been done. I was just trying to see if I could design an area.

Edit: Revised screenshot with Hero of Fire's tileset.

Very pretty, indeed. I might be up for designing some stages in this, if you make the tileset, and combos cleanly, and in an organised manner.

I'd probably be able to work on some of the codebase with you, but we can discuss that on the sidelines.

This sounds like a great idea. But, is that the NES Kirby Tileset from back around 2010? It was nice, but could use some work.

If only someone had finished it in their spare time...

Oh wait, what is this?

(Alternate Title: Finally, This is Useful!)

That should give you a nice head start on tiles and combos.

Thanks for the support. Fortunately, a lot of the base code is already written so the development time on that aspect will probably be significantly reduced.

Feel free. As for when it might be done, that depends on when I start. I'd like to clean up the subscreen just a bit first and definitely decide what items and powers I will include before actually designing anything.

Yeah, that's the Kirby's Adventure Tileset. it was never finished to my knowledge and isn't even in the database. I only got it via a link somebody posted to a forum.

I'm not sure if I'll use yours or combine the two, but thanks for sharing it.

@HeroOfFire- From what I've seen, I'm definitely in favor of your version of the tileset.

As for the code within, I've saved it for later study since I can't really look it over while in the buffer. I'm not sure exactly how I'll use it or even if, but at the very least it will give me ideas on ways to do things.

Tentative title, based on the plot outline above: Kirby and the Copycat Crisis.

If anyone else wants to contribute anything, I encourage it.
