As good as they come for a z1 remake quest. There's so many high points in this game, too many to list. Level 7 is my favorite, the visuals are eye candy with great music overall. Thanks DFW for making it!

Second quest never again. The first is okay, but the second gargles ass all day every day 24/7 doubling and tripling down on the terrible design choices. Use the lens to find the lens? We got it. Block puzzles with absolutely no logic behind where you can and can't push shit? We got it. Random-ass 2.10 bomb triggers? We got those too, and we sprinkled them in the most obnoxious places possible. Atrocious enemy placements? Say hello you Uncle Like Like for me. How about continue point fuckery? Y'all like returning at random arbitrary places in the overworld but never at the dungeon you saved at? Do we have a poorly thought out magic meter where you're always starved for MP? What do you take this for!? This is a 2.10 quest!

Most people draw the line at third quest, but I'm here to say that the garbage doesn't start there. There's garbage going all the way down to the core design philosophies. Next time Evan dares me to play some decrepit old 2.10 quest I haven't touched in years, somebody please shoot me first.

It's definitely been quite some time since I last played this quest, so I decided to replay it a few days ago to finally beat it for once and to see if it was as great as I remember it being... and yeah it definitely is! I've only gone through the 1st quest so far and I'm gonna go through the 2nd and 3rd quests eventually, but for now I'll base off the review from the 1st quest only.

To start with, this is a really fantastic Z1 remake, probably one of the bests on the database. I had a ton of fun from beginning to end and no part felt like it dragged on forever, which is great. The re-imagining of the overworld is amazing, and I really like how each area has a more unique identity compared to the original Z1. The overworld was really nice to explore and I like the cool twist on having caves instead of your general guys telling you stuff (also thanks for removing door repairs, I'm so happy that's no longer a thing). The dungeons are all very unique, and I like what you've done to them to have neat gimmicks and stuff, that really made them a lot more fun to play through. The difficulty in general is pretty well balanced, not a lot of parts were too hard or too easy, though some rooms could use a little less enemies (looking at some rooms in Level 9), but generally nothing was too bad. The minigames around Hyrule were a pretty nice way to get Heart Pieces too, they were all quite fun in their own ways and made good use of items outside their dungeons.

I can't really think of any major negatives, but I do have one minor nitpick. The enemy drop sets could be adjusted a little to have more magic drops. Level 6 got pretty annoying fast due to running out of magic so often because of being knocked into spikes and stuff, and the magic jar secrets from the pots weren't enough at times. Just a minor enemy dropset change to have more magic drops from more enemies would make things so much better IMO. There's also the case of 3 heart continues which I'm not fond of in any quest, but in this case I wasn't too bothered by it, so it's all good this time.

Overall, I had a lot of fun playing this, and I'll definitely be sure to play the 2nd and 3rd quests at some point in the near future. I'll probably update the review when I get those done but for now I'll give this one a straight up 5/5. Really good work!

As a big Zelda 1 fan, I wanted at some point to try a Zelda 1 reimagining, and I really liked this. The overworld felt really fresh but familiar at the same time. Though I couldn't tell exactly where I would be in the original Zelda map, it was familiar enough that I could orient me and find my way around as if it was the original. The exploration and secrets was great, dungeons were solid, and the difficulty was pretty on point for the 1st quest (haven't played the 2nd and 3rd, my attention span is too short for that )

Edit: This quest really has not aged well, but it is better than the first quest. I really can't think of anyting exceptionally good or bad about this quest, so I'll rate it a 3.

What version of ZC is this compatible with now? It says 2.50, but there is not 2.50. So I tried 2.53 and there are some major bugs. For example, if you die in the first quest on level 7, it takes you all the way back to a staircase by the main start.

Well, it looks really cool. Am I to understand you can't talk to folks and you can't open doors? I can't talk to any of the people in the town I start in, and I made it to what I think is the first dungeon (about same place as vanilla) but the door is closed. I also saw doors on the houses I couldn't open. It seems like I am missing a button for some reason...

So I was playing the Origin 1st quest a while back, and in Level 5, there was a (what I think to be) glitch. In this one room where you bomb a Beamos and a pushable block appears, for some reason I can't push the block. I was playing on 2.50 final.

I just started playing this quest and I seem to be having trouble with it. I'm using the latest version of ZC (2.50 Build 27) and I can't seem to finish any of the minigames. I hit all 6 targets when they appear, and I do it with great speed. after hitting the last target, the sound is played for activating the secret and I just stand there until the game says I was too slow. This happens every time I play the Candle minigame and the Boomerang minigame.

Any ideas on how I could fix this? Is there a more specific version of ZC that I should be using?

Other than the seemingly broken minigames, I'm really enjoying this quest. ^_^
