I like what you're trying to do, but the sideview MM sprites really clash with the top-down Z1 overhead sprites. As it is right now, the perspective makes it look like the portal is leaning on its side, with the top leaning against the north wall (without a shadow, of course). It looks like Link could jump on top of the clear glass part.
My advice would be to create a copy of the portal sprites and modify it by tilting it so that the portal base is an oval (versus a straight line) and the top is only a combo or two above the base.
