| 1. Quest Description |
*-----------------------*
In November of 2002, I'd recently learned about and obtained the then-somewhat-recently released 1.92 beta 163. This quest started as an experiment to learn the features of the new version, but evolved into a fully realized project. It originally used the Classic tileset, but after some deliberation I imported everything into the BS Tileset and converted it. (Not long afterwards, I updated to beta 182.) It was originally meant to be a sequel to a lost quest of mine aptly called Ganon's Revenge, my first ever BS Tileset quest and my third or so quest ever.

In June of 2003, after a couple months of stalled development, I cut out two dungeons, rushed to finish level 9 (then renamed level 7, to account for the cut dungeons) and called it done. I didn't have an account on PureZC or AGN yet, but even once I got one, I declined to release it because of how rushed it was, how broken and buggy it was (I only had myself to beta test, and I was terrible at it and extremely lazy at the time), and for reasons I'll get to in a few paragraphs.

Much later, in June 2014, I got the idea while talking to Elebreed (skateboarder11, creator of A Link to the Shadows and longtime friend) to fix a lot of the old bugs, revive and finish the cut dungeons (7 + 8), and essentially make it a lot more playable. I call this version "Second Cut" to distinguish it from 2003's 7-dungeon, half-the-overworld-is-removed "First Cut". (I was tempted to call it "Director's Cut", of course, but it's not like there was creative wrangling with some executives or something going on behind the scenes...)

This quest is still not super amazing or... good. It's really very easy (the difficulty curve goes down as you collect equipment), and a lot of the puzzles are terrible and obtuse and the block puzzles only involve pushing a couple of blocks and like 30 more superfluous blocks. I didn't have the graphical ability to do puzzles that involved a lot of edits to the graphics or totally new concepts, and the original BS tileset is actually very limited, and it really shows.

Still, it is what it is, and it's a good benchmark of how much my design has evolved over the years. You can pretty easily tell what's from 2014 and what's from 2003 just by the nature of how much better the screen design is. I've tried not to edit out any of the design flaws or the ugly palettes or anything like that.

Anyway, enjoy, I guess insofar that it can be enjoyed. Bear in mind that a twelve-year-old made most of it.

A few other things:
- Part of the reason I withheld releasing this quest for so long is because I very stupidly used Aegis Runestone's "In the Midst of Darkness" demo as a base without asking for permission. It was the only incarnation of the BS tileset I had handy at the time. I've since taken the liberty of carefully editing out as much as I can that belongs to him (it uses a lot of New BS tiles now), but a few concepts (notably the glowing eyes on wall decorations, although they're actually different from his tiles) remain. Sorry for ganking your style. A tile or two might remain as well, but I tried my best.
- This quest bears no relation to the "Legend of Zelda Ganon's Revenge" by cousinoer5. As far as I know, both this quest and the previously mentioned "Ganon's Revenge" predate his and the similar names are a coincidence.
- A few of you might remember this quest better as Agahnim's Revenge DX -- I attempted a reboot in like 2005. It was pretty lazy and mostly went nowhere and I never did anything past Level 2.
- I decided when I was updating the quest to also upgrade it to 2.10. Mostly I did this because it was slightly more convenient for me to develop in, but I also went ahead and added Farore's Wind and Nayru's Love to the quest. I also decided to take advantage of Link Tile Mod and made it so that Link's hands change color when he gets gloves, similar to ALTTP.
