The Legend of Zelda:
The Nine Villages

It is almost eight years after The Adventures of Link (Zelda 2). Link is about to turn 24, and hasn't had much of a challenge lately. Hyrule was a peaceful land. Ganon had been banished from Spectacle Rock almost fourteen years ago, which was a difficult enough task. Then the dark wizard's curse on the ancient sleeping princess almost left an opening for Ganon's minions to resurrect him. Everything since has been comparitively easy, even when there was trouble. He spent a lot of time travelling, generally helping people when he could.

Hyrule had become prosperous again, and life was good for everybody. The King had recently finished rebuilding the Great Palace, after it was reclaimed from the Thunderbird. Kakariko Village had farmland that provided more than enough for the entire population. Everything was fine, until one day.

Ganon appeared out of nowhere. He attacked North Castle before anybody had any idea what was happening. The king barely escaped before it fell. Ganon captured princess Zelda, and stole the Triforce. But fortunately, the Triforce of Wisdom had been split up across the land to keep him from getting his hands on it. He had been prevented from entering any of the eight hiding places. So he waited for somebody else to do his work for him.

Ganon's monsters returned, and made all of Hyrule a dangerous place. The remaining nine villages became isolated, and Some of the fields became unable to farm, most of the trade routes were blocked, and some of the villages were running low on supplies. There was nothing the people could do.

The forces of Hyrule were unprepared for so many monsters. Most of the soldiers that were left are in the Great Palace, an old castle where the kings of ancient Hyrule, long long ago. However there was still nothing that could be done. The soldiers are able to fend off the enemies climbing the mountain, the last stand to prevent Ganon's advances from taking the final fortress in Hyrule.

There was one village that had to move from their homes into the nearby mountains. It meant that New Kasuto was fairly well protected from this new onslaught. Link and Abei just happened to be on their way to New Kasuto when all this was taking place. The monsters spread from North Castle in a wave, which soon reached them, and monsters appeared all around. Abei fled into a nearby cave, leaving Link alone and surrounded. Worst of all, it was Abei's turn to carry the pack, which meant Link is without his sword.
